Why'd they ax the log ride?

^^I understand your point, but I do not feel that replacing a log ride with another log ride would do much. If a family stayed in 2006, I don't think the addition of Maverick is going to stop that family from coming again. CP is still no matter how you look at it, geared more towards thrill rides. A log ride will never change that.

Another way to see this is that roller coasters put CP on the map. Magnum, MF, and TTD put the park in newspapers, TV, and various other press throughout the country. Roller coasters attract attention, and CP knows all to well that they have to keep it in mind that roller coasters is their thing.

I'd be interested in knowing how many families go to CP for only their family attractions. It's always been thrill rides first and then other attractions to complete the package.

Completely agreed Gomez. I was just pointing out what I thought.

Yeah, Six Flags took the "build coasters and they will come" mentality too. Look where that got them.

For the most part though, CP builds quality rides that are somewhat unique. They haven't really picked up the cloning of coasters thing yet.

I heard a rumor that a new water ride was planned but scrapped for maxair. I don't know how true that was but I wouldn't be surprised to see a themed water ride built in the near future. It' interesting to note that there are many flumes still operating in the country that arebuilt long before 1982. Both the flume at Geauga and Wild Thornberry's River Adventure at PKI are at least a decade older.

I agree that a park of Cedar Point's stature not to have a log flume is just not right. TC and Snake are fun, but unless you are there during a hot day in peak season, you probably don't want to ride and least I don't.

I'm happy to see other people with an interest in the log flume ride. My interest is in the "Mill Race" or as it became named "The Nestea Plunge" I believe. I worked at Cedar Point in 1976 & on September 6th or 7th that year someone put a large amount of soap in it turning it into a huge bubble maker. I had pictures of it covered with soap, however they were stolen. Any help finding copies of these pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I remember calling it the Plunge, & I vaguely recall the bubble occurrence. Maybe the Sandusky newspaper would have pics in the archives? That must have cost some to clean up.

Oh, & we will def. still be going this year. It's just if they continue in a pattern of removing too many middle range or family rides, then we will look for alternative vacation spots & maybe just frequent the park/Breakers once a season. But we still have Gemini, (a blast when they run the twins; we spilt up of course & torment the train losing), Disaster Transport, (an awesome theme experience if not the greatest coaster) & a few more to keep us occupied. But I will whine until they bring back a flume ride.

I always called Mill Race the "Tidy Bowl" ride because I always remember the water being that brilliant blue color like the tablets you'd put in toilets. :)

You don't want to know what we used to call "Shoot the Rapids".......................

"Shoot the Sewer"........I'm sure:-}

When I had wanted to ride WWL back in June of 2005, the ride was closed and there was no water in the flumes. I knew that WWL was not going to last for very long after that. I don't know if anyone also knew this, but WWL lives! There is another one I believe somewhere. *** Edited 11/27/2006 4:24:47 PM UTC by ltparkmaster***

Son of White Water Landing?

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

There's a White Water Landing at Dorney Park in PA. Its basically Snake River Falls.

A perfect example of corporate branding and why it sux, am i rite? :)
I mean, if someone goes there from Cedar Point, they will notice the same names!!

At least you're catching on exit. :) I was appalled when I went to Dorney and saw another ride with the White Water Landing name. But, now that its the only one, I guess its ok. he he!! :)

You were appalled? How many Space Mountains are there?

That's different. Disney World was built as an advertised, nearly exact replica of Disneyland. Even the much maligned GP know that there are two Space Mountains. There is an expectation that they will be the same ride, even though they actually aren't.

Although I don't agree with Disney making all of their parks identical, having five Space Mountains is totally different than Dorney having a White Water Landing. Disney's Space Mountains are, for all intents and purposes, the same ride. Yes, I know they are all slightly different, but the concept and overall theming are the same. That's also the same with their Tower of Terror rides, Lights Action Motorcars, Soarin', etc...

The White Water Landing at Dorney is a totally different ride than the White Water Landing at Cedar Point. Granted, the one is gone now, but that wasn't always the case. If they couldn't come up with a unique name (which, btw is NO excuse), why didn't they just use Snake River Falls? At least the same rides would have the same names.

I agree with you 100%. My closest park is GL, so when I visited Dorney for the first time this summer, I was surprised and displeased to find myself riding... Thunderhawk. (Incidentally, one of my least favorite classic woodies.)

This would be one habit CF would be wise to avoid picking up from Paramount and Six Flags. I mean, how hard is it coming up with a name?
