The tragic loss of Steve Irwin was sad.

But he really should have stuck with his experience, and that is crocodiles.

I want to bring this up because I don't think anyone mentioned this in the theming discussion.

Do you notice how nice Hurricane Hannah's looks? That's some pretty nice theming in my opinion. I think CP may be getting a little more into theming, and I think the theming on Maverick will turn out really nice.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Even though they look to be two very different rides, this ride definitely reminds me of Stormrunner at Hersheypark, theme wise. Their tracks are both the same color (and yes, I realize that stormrunner has a box shaped one), they are both located in the Old West section of their parks, and their symbols both have black horses on them. Plus they're both Intamin launch coasters.

It's always time for a Cedar Point road trip!

I think everyone will agree that Cedar Point has the money to put to the theming at the start of a project, and it looks awesome. But quite honestly they just dont keep it up.

I cant imagin that the fog and strobes on Magmum is not much of an upkeep, it just dont get done.

As stated before, this should be considered landscaping, so hopfully it will be kept up.

Or maybe Cedar Point will put a new emphasis on their theming and catch up (hopefully!)

Greg

They already have maverick t shirts and stuff for sale in the park.. a nice sign where the swan boats are too

Bill,

what do you mean about the swan boats?

Greg

Hey probably meant where the swan boats WERE. That's where the new Maverick sign is. See Walt's update for a pic of said sign.

Ohh, got cha, seen the sign, thanks!

What about the trees? In the videos and pictures, they have nice, full, mature trees. Do you think CP will spend some of that theming money on larger more mature trees back into the site, or are we going to have to wait 10 years for little saplings to grow up? If you look at recent past rides...all the new trees are about 4 feet tall.

I love living in Florida, but I sure do miss Cedar Point.

what youve been here since 99' but only five posts! LOL!!!! anyway i would hope they would go the extra mile and bring in mature trees.

Mature trees are wicked expensive. Plus, there's a greater chance in them dying because you've disrupted such an established root system. Hopefully they put in trees bigger than saplings, but big trees are really expensive.

I took my daughter to Fun n' Stuff today. This little rinkydink operation with a roller rink, go-carts, miniature golf, etc. They had numerous fountains and a nicely themed dragon that spouted smoke. If some penny-ante place like that can keep up their theming, why can't America's Rock and Roller Coast?

Yeah, I agree with the need for mature trees. I think this is one of those rides that get better with age because of the folage build up. Even if they bring in large trees, it will still take a while for them to fill in. So my guess is, the first few years it will look kinda sparse, but cool no less.

I wonder how much impact the purchase of the Paramount parks has already had, and will have in the future, on the theming. Perhaps this acquisition isn't all that bad when it comes to parks that weren't traditionaly "themed" parks, but thrill parks, and vice versa.

I actually called my girlfriends Mom about prices. She works on a tree farm here in FL. She said that mature tress can sell for a couple hundred dollars per vertical foot. So even on the cheap side, a 15 foot tree at $150 per foot is going to be $2250. Plant 50 trees and you are at $112,500. And that is just 15 foot trees alone. Now add the costs of shrubs, flowers, grass, etc. So I can see where purchasing the saplings is the more economical way to go, and just let them grow in.

Yeah, only 5 posts since "99. I tend to just read...not talk. :-)
