In the FAQ section it says "Steel erection will be completed by December 2006". It doesn't say anything about testing though.
Six Flags stuck it to the south: No more SFAW. No more SFNO.

I can only imagine, Chief.I don't suppose anyone has any artwork from that, eh?
If you look on the cover of the 1993 Park Guide you'll notice a mountain under the structure. Also, there are what appear to be lookout points at lower levels. Not quite sure if they were for astetics or if they would have been functional.

Right below the ''lookout points'' you are mentioning was suposed to be the entrance and exit of the tunnel the train was going to go through. Would have been nice to have a tunnel, don't you all think!?
;)
From everyone on the CP&LE, RIP Mayor Scott...~
I don't see any tunnels in said image, but that mountain looks pimp. Too bad they never built it. I've always thought SRF was an eyesore while on the train. But, it is a great ride to photograph at night.
I was just watching the interviews on the Media CD-ROM, which are longer than the ones online, and Mr. Hildebrandt says that there will be a "terrific surprise" inside the tunnel.... then again, that might mean the launch.

How can Maverick even be compared to Expedition Everest? Expedition Everest is a totally themed ride, with a show scenes, storylines, and sets. How can the two rides even be compared to each other. Expedition Everest has a great story, even in the queue. Maverick is just going to be a ride with some rockwork around it.
Walt Disney World Rules!!!
^ - not to mention EE cost almost 5 times as much.
Does anyone know what Mavericks cost (minus theming) is? I'm just curious what the breakdown is.

Ok, let me re-phrase, does anyone know how much of the cost is being spent on theming?

Yeah, its a Friday, I've got a friends wedding in Detroit (well, Orion twp I think) this weekend, and we have to get to rehearsal tonight. I'm in one of those moods too.

Crazy - I work with my brother (who owns a wedding DJ company (and, no, that's not where my nickname comes from)) tomorrow night doing a wedding, and tonight I have to attend the wedding's rehearsal to get the details. I'm not sure where its at, though. It sure would be wild if it were the wedding you're headed to.

I love theming, and think it really adds to the ride expireance. But I also think that you have to have a good "ride" to begin with.
A perfect example is adventure express at pki. Without the theming, the ride would be boring.
I love the fact that they are adding theming to the new ride, but the question is....Will it suffer the same fate as disaster transport?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
^ Because most people have no concept of what it takes to REALLY theme a ride. So, they think even if you put up some wood, they think its "themed."
Cedar Point will never have the theming level that Disney has, but they're pretty good for a regional amusement park (at least when they try.)
awww i miss the strobe lights and fog on Magnum in the tunnels. *sigh*
The theming on this ride looks marvelous, i just hope they go with a more "dirt/sand" ground than the green grass to give it a bit more authenticity to the wild west.. if not though it will still be great.

I hope they go with something that doesn't blow around. LOL!! Wicked Twister hurts enough on a windy day.
btw - didn't Magnum used to have sound effects in the tunnels too?? *** Edited 9/8/2006 6:40:46 PM UTC by halltd***
Yes, I remember the sound effects in Magnum. I remember camping next to that ride in its first year and hearing those sound effects till late in the evening. My brother thought that I was crazy when I mentioned it on our trip to Camper Village this year.
As far as Maverick's theming. I don't think that it looks much more involved than the theming on Thunder Canyon or around the tunnel on Millenium. Also, it is not much different (although a different theme) then the remaining theming (grand stands, themed station, etc...) on TTD.
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
