The only thing I worry about is if they can pull of the rockwork. Its VERY difficult to make rockwork look real. Disney, in my opinion, has been one of the only companies so far to be able to pull it off well. Sure, for the average Joe, they don't care. But, I'm one that looks at the details and I'm hoping they hire some great artists for the rocks.
I'm not quite sure what those "walls" are either. They sorta look like logs. Ideas?
I think the only way they'd let themselves do Maverick is to 100% commit to the theming. This ride with no themeing probably would only be half of what it will be.

JuggaLotus,
When I went in July Magnum had fog in the tunnels... Maybe it wasn't working when you went.
I haven't seen it the last couple years when I've gone. And I'm not the only one who hasn't seen it.

A night ride on this coaster is gonna be awesome! With the sudden quick turns through the rock work and tunnels, the ride is going to seem like its moving faster than it really is. I'm just hoping that the second launch through the tunnel is gonna be fully enclosed with no lights on :)

Nope. I didn't see any fog in late May either.

Race4 - I downloaded the quicktime video off the site, and the launch is much darker there than it is in the flash animation on the page. I'm guessing the flash animation is artificially brightened in order to show the detail and the QT is normally lit to show what the ride will (hopefully) be like.

djDaemon- No, I don't watch Fear Factor. But I've never heard of them putting people on 72mph or 92mph roller coasters while bugs are in their path! :-)
The first time I rode Wicked Twister, we made the mistake of sitting in the front...because you have to sit in the front the first time on that new coaster, right? Well, when we got off, we ate enough bugs for a lifetime & they were dead on our shirts & the restraints. Never again.
The back 4 rows of WT are the best anyhow!

Real looking rockwork like maybe the tunnel on MF or Thunder Canyon? They look pretty good to me. What kind of details are you looking for?

That's what's going to take up the most time on this ride is the additional stuff that's going around it. They still have to put more water down as well. But it should be really nice in person.

I have never been a fan of theming. I would prefer they put any money spent on theming into the ride itself to make it better. I have never viewed Cedar Point as a theme park. To me its an amusement park and I hope they keep it that way.
From what I have seen, Maverick looks like a good ride (forgetting about the theming). Its different which is good. To me, the last try at going the tallest and fastest route was something of a disappointment and I think resulted in more of an attraction than a ride. This one looks like it is a ride with some very fun elements to it.
It does look like fun.

I think Maverick does look like a very fun ride, and 8 airtime hills will be a nice treat. I think the themeing is great. Its nice to see that they are commited to making Frontier Town maintian its themeing. While I don't think the themeing is Disney level, I think its great, and certainly more than I would've expected. Since CP really doesn't do themeing, I don't know that you can compare them to Disney. I commend CP on themeing this ride, as I am looking forward to the themeing almost as much to the actual ride. I just hope they plant many trees around the area, and allow it to become almost woodsy again as opposed to looking landscaped.
mk522, I was wondering the same thing. I would imagine lighting on this ride will be very minimal, if there is even any lighting. I'm sure it will be a very dark ride.

Seems to be hit or miss with the fog. I have had the fog on the first ride then I come back and it is off.

101 on Magnum and counting...
Kudos to Cedar Point on the awesome themeing on Maverick. It'll make the ride a lot more fun.

So that's what that wood on the truck was for... :)

I'm also very interested to see how WWL's building will be used as a queue area. I realize they have the switchbacks out front, but I'm not sure as to how they will use the load/unload building. Anyone know more?
On a side note, I was reading over on Coaster Buzz and everyone was saying the ride would start testing by the end of the year? I'll admit I haven't read 100% of the posts regarding the project, but has this been announced?
