Which sections of the park could use a refresh?

Thabto's avatar

In 2013, the front gate was refreshed, 2014 the Gemini midway was refreshed and it looks like this year the WT midway will get refreshed. It looks like the Blue Streak midway will be next. I think the whole park will get redone in the next few years, with different areas getting done each year.

What would you like to see done? And what are your ideas?

Honestly, since the regime change, they've been doing a pretty good job at systematically working their way through the park and refreshing areas. Off of the top of my head, the areas that I can think of that could stand to be freshened up are kind of the less-traveled connector paths that you can't necessarily call midways.

The two I'm thinking of are the connector from Windseeker past Planet Snoopy to the main midway and the side path back around Park Plaza past the 3-Point Challenge to the games area. Now I'm not really sure what could be done with these areas, but that second path in particular, though short, does increasingly seem like "Oh right, you can walk that way too". I'm not sure if it's significant enough to warrant anything other than maybe another restaurant or something, but it's there.

I can also see the Coliseum being freshened up in the next few years. I doubt it'll be anything too dramatic i.e. the dark ride people have proposed, but more likely an upgrade of the building to current code plus elevator access to the ballroom so that can be used on a more regular basis. In a way even though it's a significantly larger space it kind of reminds me of the International Street restaurant space over the Kings Island main gate in terms of a prime location that's really not used for much other than special events, that probably could be used more.

This area is considered more as a plaza rather than a midway in my eyes....But, I would have to say open up the area to get to Mean Streak. I understand Mean Streak is the only thing on that side of the train tracks, but a little sprucening up would be ideal. Maybe not take away from the charm of a western themed area, but re-date some things a bit.

I think kiddie kingdom definitely needs to go or get a refresh. Next I would say the Mean Streak area. All it is, is well MS. I know they can't fit much else over there so they should either remove MS for more room or refurbish MS to bring that area behind the train tracks alive again! It's so depressing over there with a below average ride along with an enclosed on-ride photo building that has been vacant for years.

I never go to the challenge park so I have no clue how well that area does, but in all honesty I could see that area being turned to something else in the near future.

I've seen this idea here before, but I think they should connect MS to the Gemini midway.

Could happen.

I just had another idea. Maybe they could turn that Frontier Lift building in frontier town into some kind of dark ride (much more exciting than bathrooms lol)... Or even do something with that building next to Wave Swinger that they only use for Halloweekends.

I'll be honest with ya, Blue Streak's midway area seems the next logical step and the areas surrounding considering the demo work going on over there. However, I think after that Camp Snoopy could use a bit of new. Yes the Gemini midway got redone, but now, I'd say that area for the kids demolishes Camp Snoopy, but that's just me. I'd love to see if they could keep the camp theme but maybe give the kids a new thing to ride.

This came up a little while ago but I wouldn't mind of some of the ideas that were apparently planned for Camp Snoopy appeared sometime soon. You can see some of them in the concept art here:

Stuff like the Woodstock "bird bath", the play structures throughout the area, and even the paddleboats would be nice. The little log flume might be fun too. I like that apparently Balloon Race would have had a Great Pumpkin theme.

I highly suspect that the Blue Streak midway/dead end is the next step. All current visible evidence points to it. After that I would agree with the Mean Streak area. I feel like it would be traveled much more if it were to be connected to the Gemini midway. Raise the popularity of Mean Streak(RMC or just build something new entirely) and add maybe a unique flat ride and some more atmosphere and it would help that area by 200% or more.

The lake. You know, make it more than two feet deep.

I don't think most of us would miss Eternity Infirmary. How about using the building for it's original (past) purpose all the while adding a unique ride CP has never had. Something like this that is currently for sale:

(notice the upper levels around the 2:10 mark)

We personally rode this in the Lynnhaven, VA mall back in 2010 and it was a gorgeous looking ride in person. I proposed this to CP management (via email) last year. I had a realization last year that if one parent and older kid were waiting in line for Maverick that there is nothing for a little one (under 48")with the other parent to do back in Frontiertown during the wait (other than Antique cars over and over). Yes, a Double Decker carousel back in that area would spruce it up a little, IMO.

Would a double decker carousel fit in that building, though? It looks taller in that video than I want to remember the Undertaker U building being, but then again, if they wanted to do that, is there anything significant or historical about that carousel shed that would prevent them from just tearing it down and building one that would fit?

Not unless someone considers a building from 1972 an antique.

Here's your double decker:

I'd like to see (yet) another carousel in Frontiertown, but I'd prefer it be an antique rather than a reproduction. I know complete antique machines are hard to come by, but those mall carousels, while pretty, are so plastic looking.

As far as fitting inside the building, maybe. Those Bertazzon rides come with canvas tops and it would be removed. Next time you're at a carousel with a building look up. The structures are always a lot taller than the ride, probably to accommodate the center pole.

One of the nicest reproduction carousels I've seen is the one at Kentucky Kingdom. It is reminiscent of the European roundabouts. Something like that might be better.

Maybe they should just march over to Dorney and snatch our ride back. It fits just right.

One thing that would do wonders for the Mean Streak area would be to have passengers exit the train on the Mean Streak side of the station. Maybe even add a guessing game or other small midway game where the smoker's area currently sits.

Connecting that area to the Gemini Midway would be nice (as someone above me said), but it would take a lot of rearranging to make it work. Additionally, in order to give people a reason to take that path, there would need to be an added attraction. Mean Streak's reputation won't be enough of a draw for the average guest.

They call me Sheehan.

Maybe they should add a second petting farm over by Mean Streak like the one over by Shoot the Rapids. :)

If they RMC it, that would draw people back there. I'm thinking they could be using Rougarou to test how successful a ride conversion will be. If they RMC MS, I think a connection to Gemini midway could very well happen in addition to other attractions over there.

I think it's been said on here before, but I think if it was possible to do a topper track conversion instead of iron horse would be a cooler option for Mean Streak. Make for a better ride, while still maintaining the status of a wooden coaster

^ Are you referring to how El Torro and Voyage are set-up? If you are, that would be cool for Mean Streak.

Shawn I don't think mean streak can go to what El Toro is because it was made with lasers ad built like building blocks. I think he means the 2 choices RMC have, one with steel on top and the other more of a wooden conversion track. Of course i could be wrong tho

^ yeah, I meant convert it to the track like Outlaw Run and Goliath at SFGA
