What Should Be Done To Disaster Tran.

Im sure alot of little kids are happy with disaster transport. You have to keep the younger crowd in mind as well.

I think it should be torn down, but in cedar points defense, its a different ride experience than any other coaster there and it is better for the younger crowd.

Every other year I was there the lights were all off and the ride was very fun because you didn't really know where you were going. This year the lights were ON!! It sucked. I do agree that CP should keep coasters around like DT and Iron Dragon for those who are young, old, or afraid of the more fast and tall coasters. But they should definately get some theming in on DT. LOL it really does look like they just slopped paint here and there. It doesn't even help that much, just pops out more.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

They should put new lights on the lift hill

I liked Avalanche Run, unenclosed over the beach but the theming at the time didn't seem appropriate.

Then the Dispatch Master Transport re-theme came along. New, exciting and different.. The preshow was awesome (at the time). Interactive, animated. Almost felt like a Disney production.

But in recent years, its only appeal and charm is the air conditioning on hot summer days. The animatronics have gone down the drain. Its really nothing more than an unused haunted house with dark coaster built on top.

I will always love the ride itself, but a renovated entrance and exterior would be a boost to the newer rides in the area.

Preshow? What did that consist of? And did it have anything to do with the front desk-looking thing in the first room (it seems like something animatronic should be there)?

Yeah, there was a robot there telling some story. I remember there being another robot, but not where it was. There were also tv screens with a flight attendant giving instructions for your flight at the stairwell..

Sounds like it was really cool.

101 on Magnum and counting...

Hire a former Disney Imagineer and have them redesign DT to where it is like Space Mountain.

Yeah, in my wildest dreams.

Most of the preshow was in a room that is no longer used for the queue line. It was the control room, and there was about a 10-15min pre-show consisting of a robot, flight controler, pilots and some type of supervisor.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Isn't that the "room" that is now a corrugated aluminum hallway?

These may sound like stupid questions, but...

That hallway is big enough to have been a preshow room? Or was it a room that was shrunk to that hallway?

j/k. It was actually a larger room initially, however, due to the lowered capacity (mostly, I think, because there are so many other rides in the park now) they streamlined it into just the straight hallway. I don't remember if the "Warehouse" hallway was originally a larger room though.

Yeah, like half of the original queue rooms have been turned into HalloWeekends props storage warehouses.

The room they sealed up was awesome too. It had a robot up on a balcony "walking" back and forth interacting/talk about with what was happening on the video screen. I also remember there being some smaller TV's later in the queue with a newcast about the attacking space pirates.

The ride was a vast improvement over the remaining shell of today. They had a little robot (named ROB) act as your cosmic chauffeur and he would follow above you for most of the ride. They had a whole audio track for him during the ride and it would cleverly grab our attention on the midcourse block brake when he said "I'm losing control! I'm losing control!" That's when you plummet into the tunnel and it's actually a fun part of the ride.

After they removed him, they still let the audio track run for a couple seasons. He found his way back to sitting above the station track, but he has been painted a bunch of pastel colors and they stuck that "overheated" sign on him and he just sits there.

It's kinda said how much they butchered that ride...:(

What I recall of the DT rooms:

The entrance: a big garage door with a hallway, that soon was dark

The first room: zigzags of queue lines, very dark, cold. Black lights, and posters on the wall of destinations: Alaska, Montana, Moon etc. Kinda like a futuristic airport or travel agency. In the center was a podium, and a employee in a glowing jumpsuit seemed to keep the lines moving and play an announcement. Eerie too, heard rumbling of ride above.

Second Room: Dark as well, but had a balcony with Rob the Robot (animitronic) and control panels with flashing lights - computer looking devices. Projection screens, and videos of crew, and information about Dispatch Master Transport. More miles of queue zigzags here too.

Third Room: Assembly and repair. Overhead baskets with miscellaneous parts travelling along a track. Garage bays with what looks like boxes, and another with a tranport vehicle. Robotic arms and sparks flying. Video screens and more of the story here too. Did I mention more zigzag queue?

Hallway: glimpse into transport repair, and futuristic looking doors.

Steps: Aluminum or Steel rippled walls, and safety monitors up to platform. Employees in jumpsuits at the top, and more black light.

Overall it was cool at the time. But over the years it has deteriorated to the point where I wish I could get on the ride through the exit.

I agree the Disaster Transport is one ugly ride. In fact, my best friend visited the Point and thought it was a warehouse until I pointed it out as a ride. Do something with it

See ya at the point!

Its Cedar Point's attempt at Space Mountain, IMO. A nice... completly dark ride would be nice, yes. But it does attract younger people who are afraid of things like Top Thrill Dragster. Redoing the exterior, would be a step in the right direction.

I really don't remember all the old theming since I didn't really go all that much back then. Plus I was really young so I don't remember anyways. But after reading all that I was impressed. Now it seems like they just gave up on it. I was thinking about how they could fix it. They should redo all that old theming or give it new theming. Maybe they would turn it back to mountain theming and call it Avalanche Run again. You'd be up in the mountains and thats why it would be so cold in the building. In all the parts where it opens up into a room you could put mountains and make the tunnels as if you were entering caverns or something. All in all they really need to do something it because it really is fun and I do enjoy it a lot. I'd hate to see it go.

I remember a few years back hearing "I'm losing control". I think THAT even gave more affect to the ride...because it said it right before you would go down the hill. I used to love that ride for that reason, and for the reason that it was soo fast and so dark. Now they turned the lights on? lol. Yes, they DEFINATELY need to give it a theme!!

You'll still hear that any time you ride with me :)
