Virus Impact on CP

XS I can't wait for your next post that adds nothing to the thread. They are always so "Deep".

I'm well aware you disagree with these things being talked about on here (I understand). Why you continue to chime in though is rather puzzling.

The Media isn't to blame for the Pandemic or George Floyd. The Media isn't perfect either, none of it is. It's run by humans just like you and me along with political and Corporate interests. Using the Media as a scapegoat for every problem we have distracts from the fact these are real issues. Very troubling and uncomfortable issues at that.

My suggestion would be if you don't want to participate then don't. Just chime in with that expert knowledge of when the park will re-open.

Since the stay at home order has been extended until July 1st, I think that’s all anyone needs to say. I can tell you from what I’m seeing, there is a lot of work to do to get the park ready to open.

on a bright side, I was able to drive through the new toll booths today. They look very efficient.

It's crazy. Tomorrow was my first day of work last year and tomorrow would also be my first day this year.

We'll get through this!

2021 or maybe 2022 it is. :)

Indeed. Consider this: A recent CDC report showed that 33% of hospitalized patients were black compared to 18% in the community, and that's the national average. Apply that to rural areas, especially in the south, and it's far worse. NPR ran a story this week that showed that even testing locations in most large Texas cities favored primarily white neighborhoods. A horrific and deadly case of police brutality in Minneapolis only scratches the surface of how deep racism is a problem in our country.

Not surprising; regarding the patient percentages. I will not talk about race issues as this forum is not the place to do so. You can argue with me on https://www.reddit.com/r/Capitalism/ Keep in mind that this Reddit forum is rough.

I look forward to arguing with you on Reddit.

From a personal perspective, I have been poor. I was on food stamps, energy assistance, and food bank donations. I had a decent apartment, proper HVAC, internet, color TV, two computers, the internet, and a really nice golf course (I would play 200 rounds a year; I played every day).

...

Asimov was a good writer. I have read several of his books. His quote however, ignores the good of America.

So I'm to assume you know the good of America? Someone that praises capitalism after taking advantage of socialist programs? I mean, anyone that brags about golfing 200 rounds a year while others work so you can collect welfare and food stamps will be hard pressed to earn my ear, let alone my respect. Those programs are great and are there for those that need them. Sounds like you were not one of those people. Do your friends in the reddit forum know about you being "poor"? The quotation marks are to denote sarcasm, if you didn't notice. Considering the only reason you got a job is because you were bored of being "poor". Again, sarcasm. Anyone who games the system like that and isn't ashamed of it enough to keep it to themselves must be great people. More sarcasm.

There seems to be an increasing amount of data to indicate this virus is blown way out of proportion. Bad? Yes. Deathly plague? Not even close.

CDC data now shows the infection mortality rate is under a half a percent.

Further, CDC data on their site reports that the healthcare worker case mortality rate is only 0.4% 318 deaths out of 66,447 cases among healthcare workers. Pretty interesting when you consider healthcare workers have a relatively low life expectancy and a rash of comorbidities on average.

Where I live, nobody cares about this virus anymore. They are over it. I don’t know if that’s prudent but that’s what I’m seeing out in the world. Anecdotal, but a lot of it. I live in the Midwest, but friends all over the country have been sending snaps and pics etc from crowded bars and it doesn’t seem to be getting any worse.

Maybe CP can just open and see what happens. Masks at amusement parks are as dumb as masks at games of spin the bottle. Pointless.

Data was going to, and will still, change as we understand this (still relatively new) virus. That's the whole point of research, new evidence will change our perception and we can adjust accordingly. But it highlights the importance to err on the side of caution until there is a good understanding of the many facets of something like this. Letting SARS COV-2 run rampant through the population at the beginning was the most dangerous route we could have gone since we knew so little about it. As we understand more and adapt to new data, we can adjust various safety measures that have been put in place. Most states, if not all, have relaxed their guidelines and are slowly transitioning back to some kind of "normal". But new data, supporting the idea that this wasn't as dangerous as we thought, is no excuse to open the flood gates. We won't know for another week or 2 if all these gatherings we've seen, including all these protests, will show a spike in infections or start a "2nd wave".

The unfortunate reality is that we will likely be dealing with SARS COV-2 for many years to come.....much like the common flu. We don't know for sure if it'll be a seasonal virus or what other implications there are to contracting it. Don't forget that only a tiny fraction of the population has had it. Or at least, that we know of. We have to remain cautious and show humility at times like this. Especially given the turbulent state of our country.

If anything we are seeing some evidence that the economic shutdown may not have had as much of an impact as originally thought; and while shutting everything down was certainly the prudent thing to do back in March, I'm wondering if we wouldn't have been better off with a 14-to-21 day closure followed by a similar re-opening timetable to what we see now, if not accelerated a bit. But since we didn't do it that way, we haven't any real way to know.

I do find myself wondering about the 'civil unrest' (it doesn't look very civil to me...), specifically the part that goes well beyond obvious protest, and how much of it has to do with the fact that everyone has been stuck inside for the past three months (six months in places with 'winter') and even as summertime unofficially gets underway and we enjoy a beautiful weekend, there are NO outlets for energy, socialization and entertainment. To what degree is the total lack of playgrounds, basketball courts, movies, museums, casinos, arcades, amusement parks, churches, or indeed *any* healthy distraction or entertainment serving to drive people to *anti*-social pastimes? As I have suggested privately to a few people, it seems the people are demanding bread and circuses...and they've got plenty of bread!

Wow! just a week ago this forum was banning people for saying the lockdowns where excessive and unnecessary, great news for the forum.

Also, yes i believe all these riots are from the tensions caused by the shutdowns, millions are out of work and told to stay home with zero income, the incident in Minneapolis would of caused protests but not riots like these. People are furious and don't know who to direct it at.

I believe if people want to protest in large masses and damage their cities than it's also safe to go and enjoy Cedar Point, at least that's not inherently destructive.

There are a lot of reasons for the violent response we're seeing, and the stay home orders no doubt haven't helped. But if you are blaming those orders alone for what we're seeing, you're either an alien who just landed here, or you're part of the reason people are protesting.

That you are equating the response to generations of violent systemic racism with a desire to ride roller coasters leads me to believe you are not an alien.

Good to see you again, MaverickLaunch. And good to see you still miss the point entirely.

Actually, no, there is no increasing amount of data to indicate this at all. Ask Brazil how it's going where they largely blew it off and have a staggering R0 approaching 3.0.

So Mousy, you've been following the people getting kicked out longer than you've been a member, huh? Hmmm.

And I think the protests and civil unrest have been coming to a boil long before this quarantine. Dave, I really respect you and your input on this forum, but people aren't demanding bread and circuses. They're demanding justice and equality.

So the references to exact figures from CDC are not data? Hmm.

Yeah, Brazil is a mess, no doubt not helped much by a miserable lack of testing and grossly mismanaged approach to the outbreak early on.

^Sounds like the US....lack of testing and grossly mismanaged early on.
