Vertical Construction Has Begun!

Now that the next support is in place do you think they will add the next piece of lift hill track today or do you think they will wait until tomorrow?

Nothing else is going to happen today. Gets dark too early to go any farther. It's already 4:30.

Does anyone find it interesting that there is a relatively large gap in between the break run track and the transfer track leading into the station? I know the two pieces can't be permanently connected, but that gap seems a little too large. You can see this gap in one of the pictures showing the second piece of the lift hill moving into place, taken from the top of Maxair.

Hmmm, interesting. Either there's some kind of piece that goes there a little later in construction or that's a good sized boo boo.

Somebody fudged the math.

Not a gap. Look at Photo #9 in that group. You will see the transfer is actually moved to right. You can also see it in photo #5. The catwalk sticks out to the left a little. So, from another angle, it appears to be gap.

Stupid question...where are these photo's numbered?

Good point. I didn't notice that the transfer track wasn't aligned correctly with the break run.

Is that yellow and grey thing the lift motor? Is Gatekeeper not using a normal lift hill chain? That motor seems like it's futuristic.

You didn't know that Gatekeeper was a joint venture between Aperture Science and B&M? I mean they put the reference to the Portal Gun right there for everyone to see....

Demon Drop 2004
Castaway Bay Lifeguard 04-05

^Those motors aren't very big. B&M has REALLY stepped it up on the last decade. Just compare.

Mantis-1996
-145' lift hill
-30*-/+ Angle
-9 supports (18 in total)
-5-6 mph chain lift

GateKeeper-2013
-170' lift
-40* angle
-4 supports (8 in total)
-2X+ faster lift

Last edited by Cedar King,

Let's not forget Leviathan which is a good 3-4 times faster then Mantis' lift (I think Levi has the fastest B and M lift).

I LOVE that facebook page!

That Facebook page trespasses every time they take photos, save for the few that have been released by the park. So keep that in mind...

And it's a good thing too, CP doesn't upload nearly enough photos. ;)

Unless, of course, they have permission from the park to be there. Which it would seem they do based on the when and where they are taking the pictures.
