Update: August 19

^

I completely agree that there is definately something bigger going on that we aren't seeing.

2. Are you referring to the year it opens, or the year when it's being built?

DBCP,

I'm refering to the year prior to it opening. Like they did with MF, that was perfect execution. Project 2007 should have been announced at least a month ago to maximize the number of people that hear about it, and the people that matter, the GP.

Everyone on this site is GP. We're ALL General Public. Just because you might consider yourself an "enthusiast" or a "die hard fan", doesn't make it any different. "GP" does not exsist.

Actually, GP does exist. You and I will be paying attention to the construction in November, December, January, etc. However, most of my family, the people I work with, people you walk past in the grocery store, etc. will not be. 99% of the people who go to CP this year will not follow the construction this winter. There is a definite divide there, and if you can't see it, I don't know what to say.

When you walk through the gates of a park, you are General Public.
Like it or not, you're not special just because you like rollercoasters or parks.

Using "GP" as a put down or a way to make those who have a coaster hobby "better" than the general crowd of people who don't, has to be the most moronic and stupid thing that has come out of this hobby, next to the gravy buffet.

But also people like Mystery, which is very evidant here. If people see this ride being buit while they are at the park, it makes them curious. Curious people then start to talk about what they saw, maybe do some research to see whats going on. They will come up with no answer which will keep it in their mind. If the tell the public now, chances are that people will say "Oh thats whats going on, cool". Mystery's are more interesting than Facts in my mind.

This thinking accually came from a TV show about Area 51 I saw yesterday on the National Geo. channel. The shear mystery of Area 51 is what maade it so Famous.

I think that the ride will not leave its current footprint. I believe that the utility company came out and just marked the general area. It does not mean that they will break ground at that paticular (sp?) spot. At least that is my 2 cents and of course I could be wrong.

If a park announces too soon they risk people putting off trips till next year. By starting construction early but not announcing, they let people find out something is up after they are already there this season.

Exit, I think you're taking raptor's words out of context. He wasn't implying anything negative towards 99% of CP's yearly visitors when he placed them in the GP category. The point raptor is trying to make is that these people aren't interested in something they don't know about.

Everytime I've gone to CP this year, I've dragged my friends with me to look at the construction, and nobody has shown even a hint of interest in it, even with the track and supports going up. To them, it's just a big construction zone with some random steel supports here and there. It doesn't mean anything to them, and they will certainly not remember it when they think about Cedar Point again. That is the basic mentality of your average, casual, once a year park-goer. If CP is looking to advertise for next year, then they need something that will stick in these peoples minds, and an announcement and a sign that tells exactly what will be coming next year is the best way to do that. The earlier they do this and the more people that get to see it, the better.

Hail to the Victors

Thank you ramboozle, that is exactly my point. I am not demeaning anyone by calling them GP. Lets just face the facts that what I am calling the GP don't care about a construction site that is not even close to being finished. I'm not sure where I said we were special. If you could point out that exact phrase, or even some semblance of a thought like that, I will give a you a dollar.

When I was there with my family I dragged them over to the coonstruction site and they could have been more excited watching paint dry. Now get a couple of enthusiasts over there together and you have a full on discussion about why they are using triangle track and not box track.

E X I T, I don't know what you were reading, but nowhere did I say enthusiasts were any better than the GP. I actually said they are the ones who keep the park well funded, which allows us the enthusiasts to enjoy the crazy rides that CP builds. I did say that we cared more about the ride than the everyday park guest. You're comment makes no sense and is based on something that wasn't said, and never even implied.

They put on a really awesome show. I've seen them in Toledo twice and have been amazed both times. Only thing better would be Pink Floyd themselves. Anyhoo, back to talking about roller coasters.

Uhmmm.... that was just a ridiculous statement e x i t. The GP exists very much indeed. It´s not something you say, to make yourself feel special as an enthusiasts. It´s just how it is. I don´t feel "special", I just feel like a Nerd. Check this sh*t:

I remember how PKI announced Son of Beast (SOB), they had a huge box that appeared to house the beast and the door would bang a few times with mean narly sounds coming from the box. This was a good way to make the public aware of the new ride coming, and add mystery to what will it be. Along with the new 200+ foot hill that was being built, which you could not help but notice. PKI, did a fairly good job at marketing the new mystery ride.

I remember how PKI use to place signs in the general area of a new ride and promote it. They would only put next season of 2003, more thrills, biggest drop, fit to be a son..etc. was printed on a board when they were building SOB.

My point, having some type of announcement or signs, will give the visitors to the park something to talk about either that day or with others when they return home, stand around the coffee pot at work, take a pee..etc.

I'm one of those park enthusiast that love a good coaster and love to see them being built, more so then the next guy. I could stand around for hours just watching them construct the thing. I would be to much into just watching concrete to cure, but more into the actual track laying. So, I guess one could say I'm sick in the head, but no matter what they say, I'll still be there when they build their next 5 to 10 coaster!!

whoa...no rebuttal from e x i t...at least for awhile anyway. ;)

Why stop at 80 degrees? why not make it 135.627 degrees? NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL ;)
