TTD Status: Day to Day

Just say it's pulled by cables which are attached to a drum that's spun with hydraulic motors. That's my simpled version.

Or even: Hydraulics, cables, magnets, and pneumatics.:)

I meant to mention something on the complexity issue. It'd be good if CP put a sign at the entrance that read something like "Top Thrill Dragster is a very complex ride and may experience instances of downtime. We are working diligently to have the ride running as much as possible."

I have yet to hear a report regarding TTD's good performance that wasn't accompanied by some sort of condition, like "except for about 15 minutes of downtime every few hours".

And, yes, I know that Dragster is much more complex, and blah blah blah blah blah...

TTD 120mph said:

lol, seriously though, I understand wanting to have it running 97%, but if you know how complicated it is and the depth of it's technology, then you would and should know that a 100% or even 95% is very hard to accomplish if not impossible because it's not like other coasters, it's just not.....so accept it!
And yes the GP doesnt care about new features or about how advance it is. Why would they anyway? I think the last thing they care about when going to Cedar Point is how Dragster works.

If there's anything I want people to do more than anything is at least have an appreciation for it's complexity and accept that it cant run at 100% Im not saying to like it or to know how it works, I'm saying to have an understanding. Dont give me "It should run better than it is now" because whether you like it or not, it has been running much better than previous years. 87% is a hell of alot better than last years percentage (which was lower). Yes it's still to early to tell it's preformance of this year but so far it's a definate improvement.

As I said, blah blah blah...

I was there Tuesday.. I told you it did not open until mid afternoon and went down around 8ish for the night. I also told you it was also going down every 20 minutes or so.

You shrugged it off like it was working fine...

djDaemon's avatar

My mistake then, because you quoted me in your post, before going on a rant about how insigificant repetitive 15-minute periods of downtime are, especially considering its blah blah blah...

Coastern3rd, only good reports are appreciated here. Dragster has been running flawlessly, as always.

Brandon

Oh... My bad. Let me word that a little differently.

Dragster ran AWESOME on Tuesday. It was so exciting that it was down the first 4 hours of the day.. the 15 minute down time every 20 minutes made my wait teh awesome. Everyone that waited and got out of line when it was down for more than 1/2 hour was so happy.

Good Times.

*thumbs up and a wink*

I was there on Sunday 6/25, and it was running great. The posted wait time was 2 hours, but my longest wait was about 1 hour 30 minutes. I managed to get two rides in on Dragster (along with everything else I rode). I was only in the park from 12:30 til about 8pm.

Although there were significantly longer lines than my last few trips, it was great to see the park filled with people. It just feels more alive when there are more people on the midways.

Coastern3rd - I just laughed out loud, and I almost never do that when reading on the PC. Nice.

Hey Coastern3rd and Dj why not wait a mintue and take a look at this and tell me Im not listening to anyone.

Where have I said that Dragster has been running flawlessly? I've said "good" and "great" but not flawlessly. I might say flawlessly about a day but not about how it's been running so far this year. You guys are acting silly.

P.S.- Thank you Mark Small. That kind of input is valued.

Yes, we are. And with good reason, as this whole thing has slipped the realm of reality. Observe:

If MF were going down every 20 minutes on an almost daily basis, along with some days of being down for almost the entire day, would people be saying that it has been running "great"?

If Maggie were going down every 20 minutes on an almost daily basis, along with some days of being down for almost the entire day, would people be saying that it has been running "great"?

If Raptor were going down every 20 minutes on an almost daily basis, along with some days of being down for almost the entire day, would people be saying that it has been running "great"?

Are you seeing a pattern here?

But Draaaagsters more complicated.

Ok fine whatever dj I get your point. I wont give any positive reports about Dragster (as should everyone else). I'll give in the fact that some of it's downtime make it a horrible ride and that it's not running well this year.

From now on all days in my entry are marked red.

There happy?

Hello All,

This is my first post on this website. I was at CP Thursday and Friday and Rode Dragster twice on Thursday night after the rain and twice Friday night.

It seemed like it was running almost perfectly Friday after the rain stopped.

I am from Chicago and I have been going to CP every year for the last 16 Years (I am 28 by the way).

Its nice to meet all of you.

Welcome, Captain. Will ye be needin' the warp drive?

MrScott

Mayor, Lighthouse Point

I was there yesterday. Good sized crowds for a Monday, but still managed to ride almost everything I wanted, except for Dragster. It was actually open all day, I just didn't feel like what looked like an hour plus wait in line.

As far as I could tell, the only ride in the park that was down was Demon Drop. A couple maintenance workers were working on it when I came in, but later in the day I saw it running.

Millie was sweet as ever, the crews hitting their intervals or darn near close. Yesterday also marked my first three rides on Skyhawk -- wahoo! ;) I love the airtime, and the seats weren't all that uncomfortable. I did the old 'swell the stomach' trick when the ride nazis... er, operators jammed the bar down. It only works if you have any gut of significance, but it makes for a looser and more comfortable, but still safe, fit.

Mean Streak was noticeably gentler than on my rides last year. Just enough to drop it from "Rough, and painful," to "Rough, and fun." The ride ops let us handle our own belts and lap bars, thankfully.

Magnum was weird. I never noticed the trim brakes going into the pretzel before -- have they always been there? They shaved about 4 or 5 percent off the velocity, which was a bummer, but then on the return trip they made the camelbacks in the tunnel infinitely more enjoyable. It felt a lot more like how it ran in the first few years. A much better experience for me.

For the first time I rode the train two times in one day, just so I could get a better gander at the construction site.

A beautiful day, but aren't they all on the peninsula!
