TTD records to be broken?

And while we're on the notion of playing the technicality game, I'm pretty sure Wicked Twister is listed at the height of the spikes even though the train never actually reaches the ends (for obvious reasons).

Good point.

Anyways back on track with the new coaster. Tommorow is the 29th and that is what ive heard is the anouncment day for this ride. My first question is what time are they doing the conference and my second question is where online can i go first to find out what the new ride is all about and what was said?

Thank you

I'm not sure what time they plan to have the media conference though.

The invitation is saying 11:00 am for it to start.

Looks like 500' is up for grabs! Maybe that is what will happen in 07'

Looks to be a coaster that has less capacity than TTD. That last curve looks banked in the picture, which means the trains will still be going fairly fast, with the final brakes being right in front of the station.

I can see this coaster having only three trains, with a blocking arrangement similar to MF. One train on the course, one in unload and one in load.

Mark my words 2005 you will see the first roller coaster in the world to reach 500'! They have already released how much they are spending in our park, 32 million I believe was the number, and that includes the money for tiger island, which is a 1,000 seat stadium, with a tiger show. They wouldn't hype the media that much for a measly 10' over TTD... And... tell you the truth... if this doesn't go over 500' I give up on SF because it would be corporate suicide!

im marking your words! have you given up on SF yet??

I did... and then I saw there plans for 05' I thought it would be a parking lot coaster like SCREAM at MM! But the new design/area gives me hope, like I said, they have the bate, now they need to get them coming back, by keeping the rides (all of them!) open, park clean, well staffed, and minor adjustments as well, and I REALLY think they will be doing this next year, why would they spend SO much money for a section, and then attendance falls below what they expect and the 05 season is a washout yet again. But then again, I thought they would ACTUALLY shatter all records by going 500' we'll see though you CP fanboys who won't give a park another chance...

CP fanboys who won't give a park another chance...

Sure we are willing to give a park another chance. Fine, go for the 36' and 8mph. I could care less.

If Cedar Point said that they would smash all records, then they would. This one just gave me a good laugh. With the maintinence history of SF, and all of the downtime that TTD has, I see this thing barely, if at all running opening season. Like Jeff said, They have maintinence men now working there that were canned from CF.

Of all people, it's funny that you call us "fanboys"! (I am not a "boy" by the way.)

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

im a cp fanboy, and proud of it, i LOVE that park. i like plenty of other parks too though, including a few six flags. heres what i find interesting though: if i had just heard without any prior rumor or expectation that SF was building a taller + faster coaster, even knowing it was a clone of the dragster, i would have been impressed. but since you (SFcoasterguy) came in over and over with how it was going to be 100 feet taller and over 150 mph and would "shame" and "insult" CP + its fanboys (your words, not mine), i couldnt help but chuckle when the actual announcement was made. yeah SF will have the record now, but my reaction still went from potentially being impressed to being definitely unimpressed. so ummm... thanks SFcoasterguy! youve strengthened my CP fanboy resolve!

I have to agree dork. Leading up to the announcement, and looking at the invite on screamscape I expected much more. I was disappointed that Cedar Point would be losing the title, but records are meant to be broken.
The actual announcement though left something to be desired. They really didn't do anything spectacular. Even with the current height all they would have had to do was add more than just a bunny hill to impress me. Instead they took the EXACT design and just added a bunny hill. So now the east coast has a Top Thrill Dragster with OTSR's (another feature I am not too enthused about) to ruin the view.

Goodbye MrScott

John

I too expected MUCH more given all the pre announcement hype. What I am surprised no one has mentioned is the actual drop (418 feet) vs. height of the ride as well as the OTSR with KK - I am psyched to see a new record broken and think this new ride will be interesting at the very least - but I also suspect TTD will continue to be the better ride (time will tell though).

2007 will also be facinating to watch given CP was the first over 200, 300, and 400 feet - the real question will be does CP want to continue that tradition with 500 - because I think we all can agree - 500 feet will be broken soon rather than later (cant wait for that day as well - even if it is a TTD clone).

Tom

This is somewhat off-topic, but when was the last time a Six Flags park had the tallest coaster in the world? Just curious.

I have to agree dork.

Sorry that quote is just funny!

To be honest, I WAS SOoOoO disappointed when I heard the stats, and that there would be OTSR, but after I looked at it from a business perspective, it makes sense! They are 2.4 in, they don't need someone falling out of the ride, or suing because of discrimination because they can't fit in the ride. It served the purpose, AND includes more kiddy rides and attractions for families to come out to! Couple that with the park improvements (small but noticeable) It is a really wise decision for the company!

What I think CP will be going after isn't the tallest coaster.... again... it gets a little old, I think they are going for the tallest combo, or biggest flat... can you imagine a 400' huss frisbee? Or a 500' drop tower? Those would be FUN... or Tallest inverted coaster? Tallest dueler? Tallest flyer, or 4-d... there are so many records they could go after, another height class, don't seem right?

JuggaLotus's avatar
I hope they do like they did with Raptor, make a tallest/fastest in class, but make it good. Raptor was the tallest invert when it opened, but it was also just flat out awesome. Thats what we need for the next ride. A well designed ride that's tallest in class (they do need something for the marketing people to work with).
I don't know about a flyer, maybe a floorless or 4-d. A flyer just seems like it would be uncomfortable, I really wouldn't mind seeing another invert.

I agree. I wouldn't even care if it was tallest in class as long as it was descent height/speed and fun. Unfortunately, Mantis was also a tallest in class when in debuted and that ride is simply not that good. I'd really like to see a floorless inversion record breaker. We could use some more inversions in the park. A 4-d wouldn't be bad either if they could get it running reliably. Then again, that didn't stop Dragster.

It's funny cuz when TTD broke the record they only broke the height record by 5 feet. STE, actually considered a roller caoster, is 415 feel tall. The drop may not be that high but the height of the coaster is 415 feet. It seems to me that the height of TTD is 420, a mere 5 feet taller. Seems like six flags smashed the record compared to what CP did.

Go Ravens and Lakers, don't worry, we'll bounce back.

X at SFMM is frickin awesome, it's a must ride for all coaster fans.

perculata: You must like to repeat yourself 'cause you've already said that before... blah blah blah. This has nothing to do with STE.

The Amazement Park

For the love of God, will you give it up already, Perculata? Give it a freaking rest. Go back to Cali and cry about your poor Lakers. Pistons took care of them nicely. This website is for Cedar Point fans only. If you're not a fan, then don't say anything, just read. Otherwise all you're gonna do is cause arguements and problems. Did you really have to go all the way to another Thread just to "attempt" to prove your point yet again? If you want to bash our park then go to Coasterbuzz. There's plenty of people that do it there already. However, plenty of us go there too to defend our park. Just give it up here on Pointbuzz.

As much as you think we do, we really don't care that the record is broken. Ok, maybe a few immature people do, but they don't understand the business. They just cry and whine cause our park doesn't have the biggestest and fastesestestest anymore. Boohoo.

Cedar Point impresses us every year. That's why we love the park. That's why we're they're biggest critics as well. And I'm SURE they will impress us years and years ahead. Hopefully without even record breakers.

Ok, i'm done. Peace.
