TTD records to be broken?

I don't think they used a picture of TTD. If you look closely, there are catwalks and the elevator part missing. Also, (this could just be the angle of the shot) but the train looks like it's ascending during what would be TTD's 270 degree twist.

That picture could have VERY easily been doctored. I could have made that and sent it to screamscape. You can do a million things with Adobe Acrobat.

I don't think people are going to take much more speed than 120 mph. I also think this obsession of the tallest and fastest is getting boring. I think if parks just make a good coaster that's fun and a little different people will come.

If you build it, they will come.

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

I wouldn't put it below those slobs at SF to build 125, 421.
Wow, Some people here are unbelievable. Yes, TTD is getting beaten out. You don't have to take it out on SF. I mean i know some of you are serious CP fanboys, But wow. I love CP but if some other company is building a kickass coaster I'm all for it.

The ride will probably be 460+ FT and 140+ Mph. It will have a bunny hill or some other element. The other element is almost certain, Considering the footers get bigger as they get further from the tower and the 10 pin supports now on site.

Seeing is how SR has been operating almost flawlessly, I think this coaster will run pretty good. Though SF's maintenance is half ass. I can already notice alot of design changes, especially in the launch.

Oh and, For the guy that said he will still think TTD is the tallest even when this is built. I have to say, Wow dude, I feel bad for you that you are so stuck up on TTD. *** Edited 9/25/2004 11:27:46 PM UTC by Big D***

Besides, its not like TTD didn't just barely inch out Superman: The Escape. The speed was just a result of what would be needed to clear the tower for a full circuit (remember CP argued that S:TE was not a real coaster because it didn't complete a circuit).

This whole tallest, fastest game is played anyway. Don't get me wrong. I kinda like being able to say I've been on the world's tallest and fastest, but not at the expense of us just building these crap rockets. One things for sure, with one rocket coaster already in the park, Cedar Point will have its work cut out for them in getting the record back if this thing does break them.

The thing that irks me is for the most part, these rides are the same design. Granted, when you're going that high the huge tower is probably the most economical way to get there. But why not try something different?

VertiGo rides: 32
"Hey, Cool. My voice is on the lift"

For everyone who thinks that this new coaster isn't wise for SF, even if it is the same design ... remember, TTD is like 9+ hours away from Gadv... so GP within a 3-4 hour radius would go to Gadv over CP... when I come onto boards like this, I always put my "GP" hat on ... remember most want to say they want to go on the tallest, fastest coaster in the world! And this is the novelty the public likes. Remember.. there are still people (hear it EVERY time I am at SF) that think Nitro is the tallest coaster in the world... I have routinely heard people explaining to the people they are there with "This is the fastest tallest coaster" "How tall is it?" "Over 300' tall!" "WOW! Thats HUGE, I NEED to get on that!" I just sort of roll my eyes and move on... I see why they don't know this, I am sure they don't spend time on the net, looking up coasters, and have never heard of TTD... so when you put your GP hats on... you will see the enormity of this ride for this region and IF it crests 500' it will be enormous for all of the world!

They are trying something different, There is going to be another element after the tower. If you would be paying attention to the construction, You would see that. Thats about the only difference though, And a dual loading station.

Funky Jive... I really think this will top 500' so... they need to get to 600... and I think SF will be doing this in 07 if this coaster is a success ... so they need to build quick.... I really think SF will be taking over this streak in there flagship parks, where as CF only really has one.

Edited to put in response to "Tallest fastest worldwide... yawn"... I actually think this will have tallest inversion as well, but I am not certain on that fact yet. *** Edited 9/23/2004 12:43:10 AM UTC by SFcoasterguy***

Oh I didn't realize you were one of the few who actually knows about this coaster. I doubt SF will be building a 600 ft. coaster in 2007, and I'm not sure about 500 ft. this time. Thosse are two huge, expensive projects, and it wouldn't be wise when they're in like $2 billion of debt. And this is to everyone, I'm getting tired of everyone acting as if they know it all... "From what I'm told, it'll be around 525 ft"..."I hear it's going to have such and such element"... just stop making stuff up, no one has "heard" anything other than that media announcement, so just wait until Wednesday (and I do think a lot of you will be disappointed...) *** Edited 9/26/2004 2:09:16 PM UTC by Erikjc***

Your right, I don't know it... I guess you didn't read what I was saying "I REALLY THINK" Not I KNOW... And if it is a success, and really boosted attendance, they will keep on producing the tallest, scariest rides. I did actually get a little info from someone who DOES know... This person told me it will be WAY different from TTD... WAY was in caps, so, I don't think it will be a normal Intimin launch...
I consider WAY different to be really way different, like Dragster and Raptor. Those two rides are WAY different. Taking a ride and throwing in an extra element and making it bigger isn't, imo, WAY different.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I hope this doesnt beat Top Thrill Dragster for two reasons. Cedar Point will have to chang alot of there signs and clothing and posters causing them to spend more money. Two I wouldn't be able to say "I have ridden the tallest and fastest rollercoaster". *** Edited 9/27/2004 1:21:43 AM UTC by cpJakecp***

Jake

From what I see... this coaster, by your definition will not be WAY different ... but will have an extra element, with the infield footers, I am thinking it will launch, go into a tophat, come down, pull back up (same tower) into an inversion, back down into the brakes. It will be tallest coaster (first TH) tallest inversion and fastest. This is speculation, but by the footer count, and placement, unless this is a one trick pony. But we DO know that it will be the tallest, fastest worldwide for sure. so Jake, I'm sorry after next spring, you won't be able to say that!

Horrible point to make considering that the cars on Superman: The Escape don't even make it 2/3 the way up that hill. Dragster climbs the entire 420 foot tower.

I'm sure Cedar Point is already well prepared to change their advertising.

I guess if they break the record people will come. But also the park has a history of violence and that will keep many people away. I for one don't like the fact that you have to go through a metal detector to get into the park. That makes me leary when entering the park. To think it is supposed to be a family environment, but you need to open your ciggs for inspection, just what do you think I could cram in there? I also think CP has the friendliest environment of any park I have been to.

Now I know we need to keep security a high priority, but SFGA turns me off with their security. I havent visited SFGA for quite a few years, mainly because of the security, but I feel safe at CP without the checks. There are big cities all around both parks. So to say one has a greater chance of violence would be wrong. And with terrorism a big issue everywhere, I think we all need to be more aware of our suroundings and the people there.

But I must say, I have seen a lot of gross peircings this year at CP! But I bet there everywhere too!

One last remark, do we really need political statements in posts? I wish we didnt have to come here to see others political views. I see enough of that crap on TV. Not that I don't have feelings on the election, but where can we go to get away from the troubling election? I see it everywhere and now here! Enough is enough! *** Edited 9/27/2004 5:45:08 PM UTC by DirtyDon***

SFcoasterguy: Go read the rules before posting guidelines in the general forum.

Why do you feel the need to bash people? You are clearly a hard core Six Flags fanboy, and are ridiculing anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Try this scenreio: What about a bar with metal detectors vs. one without? It just goes to show you what kind of crowd those bars attract because they need these devices.

You can't compare an airport to an amusement park.

What you need to do is put your respect hat on.

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

SFcoasterguy - They need to wise up on security, huh? That is also why they have their own "Cedar Point Police." Something tells me they know a little more than you do when it comes to security and know how to run a safe park. *** Edited 9/27/2004 11:57:59 PM UTC by raptor323***

AKA Cobraroller on Cbuzz

I agree, the security stuff would just deter me. I mean, I wouldn't stop going to the park, like if I CP got the same security precautions, I'd still go all the same. But it would really take some zeal out of the trip.

Actually... it was the piercing thing that got me more then the security thing... (personal matters!) And tell you the truth... I would rather live by CP then Gadv... But I have to deal with where I live, I can't move... And I meant to point out that I personally feel safer in a place where they check bags, and go through metal detectors then a place where anyone with $50 is free to go in... to me, that mixed with crowded ques that amusement parks have... just don't sit well, maybe it is just me being analytical? I will delete the post... *** Edited 9/28/2004 12:57:01 AM UTC by SFcoasterguy***
Actually, I remember some kid going in through the gates ahead of me had his bag checked. I don't remember ever seeing them doing this before, and I've carried in bags and whatnot, too. Most likely they had a legitimate reason to search.(At Cedar Point if you didn't figure it out)

Actually it's a great point. While what you say may be true, those people who don't care about Coasters completing a full circuit have S:TE's height listing as 415' (or whatever the height of the tower is). This way, CP could have the title undisputed. And while we're on the notion of playing the technicality game, I'm pretty sure Wicked Twister is listed at the height of the spikes even though the train never actually reaches the ends (for obvious reasons).
