TTD records to be broken?

Who knows, maybe this announcement will prompt a quicker CP announcement. Also, they said the 2480 length is only the launch and brake run according to the numerous articles on the web. That means it could be an enourmous amount larger. Just so long as THIS doesnt break the 500 foot record (sarcasm) we can pray that CP will slap six flags right back with bigger and better coasters.

I don't think CP needs defending anymore though, it's ran great the whole year.

One thing puzzles me. What's with all the launch track? There's more launch track than Dragster (I think). Judging by the pictures I've seen, there has to be at least 12 or more pieces of launch track and Dragster has 11. If it is taller than TTD, SixFlags will probably pull something like making it 425 ft.tall or something and 130 mph. Something really stupid just to rub it in CP's face. I don't know though. So we will wait and see.

I believe we counted enough launch track on it to speed the train to 200mph (using Dragster's acceleration. Also, the track length listed on RCDB is either wrong or, like TTDSam said, only includes the launch track and brake run track. The infield footers on this coaster also suggests the possibility of more than just L-TH-B. Who knows, I guess the announcement is planned for the 28th?

I don't know what it is with lots of people here who hate Six Flags so much. It may sound like I'm being a gadv fanboy becasuse I live in NJ but I actually don't even like the park anymore really. I think this SF thing is largely based on people saying it and it spreading on the internet.

And btw I've read in alot of places on the announcment it said the 29th. Also I don't know who said they think SF will make the ride just a little bigger and faster but look at Superman the Escape and Dragster height.

I guess you learn something every day. I suppose those times on my first 12 visits to the park this year when it wasn't moving for much of the day and I didn't get to ride must just have been my imagination ;)

It did run well this past weekend :)

Why would they post that length if they only meant launch and brake length? They wouldn't, they'd wait until they knew for sure. Maybe the 12 sections really mean 2 intense launches of 6 each? Who knows? That article does seem bogus too, a lot of things that are stated as "fact" are yet to be determined, and just downright not true. Example: Why are we assuming it's being announced on the 28th? If there is so much launch track, is it possible that it would break the speed record but not the height record?

From what I gathered reading the website, it sounds like it will be almost exactally like dragster, except taller and faster. Unless this is significatly taller (100 feet or more) and I think that is unlikely, this new one won't be a totally unique ride experience, like Dragster was when it opened. I suspect it might be kina like the impulse coasters: no two are identical, but are any two all that different? Hmmmmm....

Frontier: I suspect it would be possible if the top of the ride has a larger radius than Dragster's

I don't see what the big deal is if the new coaster doesn't have a significant difference in height and speed compared to TTD.

I don’t think it’s a big deal if SFGA breaks the record. And the record can easily be broken with that amount of track. The ride could have an Xcelerator like lunch, leaving from in the station instead of two blocks later like Dragster does. Think about this, if the ride has four trains and one load station and one unload station, and leaves from the load area like Xcelerator there would be more than enough extra track to break the record for speed and height. How long is a block segment on Dragster? What is the distance from the station on Dragster and to where it actually launches? (Subtract that distance from both sides of the ride, the launch side and the brake side.) What is the layout of the new ride? Maybe it has no downward spiral, which could save you a few feet to put on top of the ride to make it 425 or 430 feet tall. Most important of all maybe the track length that is supposed to be a fact is actually a lie. So all I’m basically saying is we all will have to wait until the announcement to find out!

If 2480 ft is only including the launch and the break run, and if its a L-TH-B, sixflags will have the 1st coaster to break 500 feet tall and go 150mph. Guess we will have to wait and see on Sept. 29th???

Maybe the ride has a posibility to be a racing coaster. People are looking at the different color launch track like TTD's is, but the brakeruns are two different colors too. And how do they expect to build a 400+ tower when they have not even started vertical construction yet. Look at how early Dragster started. Breaking records could mean something other the tallest and faster coaster in the world. They also said rocket coaster. If I remember TTD is a strata coaster. Raptor, Mantis, Mean Streak, Wicked Twister all broke records and they weren't the tallest and fastest coaster in the world. People are seeing the phrase breaking records and assuming this means it will be huge. Maybe it will break the record for being the tallest and fastest coaster in the Northeast. People are jumping the gun very fast on this and Six Flags wants that to happen. Why do you think they made this early annoucement.

I would like to see Dragster hold the record longer but hey it's a free country. Six Flags has every right to build a ride bigger. Though building the same ride just taller and faster makes zero since. Why would they build a big huge coaster $25+million just to have a very similar ride to TTD. That's why I think it will be something different from what people are thinking.

Sept. 29 is the big day!

This kind of speculation about the ride could be both good and bad for SF. On one hand, it creates a lot of publicity for them, but on the other hand it will be a disappointment if the ride isn't the tallest and fastest. I'm not sure they would encourage that kind of publicity if it's not going to break those records, but I could be wrong.

Maybe Cedar Point will start building fun rides, and not just ones that break records, again.

Well, kudos to Great Adventure if they make a bigger coaster, but it's not going to be enough for me to go anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, they have some sweet coasters... when they're open. They have some major problems with customer relations, management, and maintenance, and tackling something like TTD sounds like a bad idea for them. In my experience, when TTD breaks down, CP does everything it can to get the ride up and running, even after closing (I've been there), so people in line can ride. I can just imagine that same break down occuring on this new one, and Six Flags taking a week to fix it. I don't think a ride like that is right for them at all, and I certainly don't think it's going to save them. There's more to an amusement park than having the biggest rides. Six Flags doesn't understand that.

Then again, if they DON'T build one, then CP won't have as much motivation to build the 500ft one. So go to it, Six Flags Jersey!

Throwing in my $.02 - SFGA will never eclipse CP interms of a total ride and park experience (period). I think this new coaster is a GREAT addition for SFGA and will save me 7 hours of driving (from Boston) to experience it. I still expect to make at least one trip per year to the point.

With that said, I expect this new ride to break 500 feet (450 at the very least). There are 2 more pieces of launch than TTD onsite, and with a faster accelleration, an inclined launch, or fewer trains, this ride can reach 500 with 2,480 feet of track.

Time will tell, and I for one cant wait for the announcement.
