Track going up now

Yea after looking at the WebCam I am now biting my nails wondering if its gonna be at least 320 feet(which would be the height record) tall as I am hoping it will be. Please not let it be a cloned ride.

"Please not let it be a cloned ride."

Are you kidding? I'd KILL to have an Xcelerator clone at CP... and if this is bigger and faster, then so much the better!

Cloning a Vekoma Boomerang is one thing. Cloning Xcelerator is another thing entirely.

Can you imagine VF saying "boy, I hope we don't get a MF clone... that would really suck!" :)

I wonder how high the stick will rise :)

Worst case senerio: CP stops contrucion and sends the coaster out to sea to be dumped.

Judging by the pullout, it's at the very least going to be 50' taller than Xcelerator. At the most, judging by the crane, just under 500'. 250- 500' isn't exactly a small range. hopfuly the dreaded, and sought after announcement will come soon.

With supports up and now track going up I wish cp would spill the beans already, I cannot wait to find out what it is!

I think it's fascinating watching the park grow.....track piece by track piece (to stay on the subject). I've been going since 1974......when I look at the park map I bought back then...it's amazing! It's awesome to have the webcam to watch. It's awesome to have these forums to connect with others who are into the park / coasters so much. Then I don't have to drive my friends crazy with coaster talk...(most of who can't understand such enthusiasm) Can't wait to go this weekend and check out what we can't see in this view!

I couldn't agree with you more :)

Luckly, I randomly met a major enthusiast online, and it just so happens he lived in my town the whole time! We're now good friends.

Anyways, back on topic.

I'm also noticing that the pullout/pullup is much larger than I thought. I knew it would be close to the 200 foot range, but it looks a lot larger than I pictured it.

Question:

Is the pullout for this larger than the one for MF so far? Maybe theres no way to tell yet, but if anyone has any idea, please share it :)

Remember this about pullouts, the radius of the pullout is determined by the speed the trains will be travel through it. Speed on a coaster can easily be determined by the height of the drop. The pullout will probably take up the current height of the tower, 150-200'. Look at MF. You'll see that the pullout over there starts about half way up the lift. But on the other side of the token, you only gain a few MPH with more height when you're that high up. MF goes 93 at 310'. The physics threads have said that you'll only get another 15 MPH at 400', or something like that. If designed properly, the pullout could support a wide range of speeds and will probably be good for speeds well above what it will do. Therefore, I don't think we'll be able to tell how high the tower will end up based on the radius of the pullout.

If you said that there are more crane extensions in the parking lot; then the crane being used is at its max. So they might as well use it for putting on the lower track sections until the extensions in the parking lot are ready to go onto the crane.

Why use the higher crane to put on the lower sections of track when it is a lot easier with the smaller crane.

They are currently assembeling the Higher crane in the parking lot.....by the look of those Extensions...This is going to be a HUGE crane

Guess who's back....back again ;)

If they are putting the crane together in the parking lot, they will need to take down the fence by the jd display.

I don't think there will be enough room to fit the crane in otherwise.

If I am correct the fence probably wont come down untill after the park closes

The crane that is currently in use still has a good 75' of height over the top of the tower. And now the park is assembling one that's even larger. I'd say that 350' is the absolute minimum height the tower can be if it is worth CP bringing in such a large crane.

That's not to say I don't see it being much taller though ;o)

I'd hate to sound like a photo nazi, but does anybody have a cam capture of the track going up? It's awfully dark at the Point right now...

Are you sure that the track installed is for the pullout and not the pull up? To me it looks like the near side has track on it...not the far side. I thought that the far side would be for the pull out...

I am not sure, but from the camera angle, it looks as if its going up the side closest to the webcam.

Does anybody else find this somewhat surprising to find track going up this early?

I'm really a lurker... but I'm gonna come out of my shell and talk!

One logical reason for CP to cease work on building up the tower, (I think) is that, until they announce their plans for 2003, they don't want to give away how high it really is, if of course, the height will be 320-4?? ft, high.

Actually, I think the crane they are using now isn't at it's max hieght. I believe, I could be wrong, but there are such cranes with a joint in the middle, so the crane now could come close to doubling it's hieght. They used a similar crane for MF.

It's because of a few people that have brought the boards down. Common sense and literacy must not be something they have.

The track installed is on the far side of the tower from the webcam view - it is the same side that had the tan supports leading up to it over the weekend (which are now being used to support the track).

This is pure speculation, but I would call that far side the "up" side. I say that just because I think that the supports for that side use 6 bolts and are weaker than the supports that will be used for the other side, which I think will use 8 bolts and would probably support the pullout (from looking at various pics of the site).
