The Stupid Queue Wall

Jeff's avatar
I know some folks at the park read this stuff, so I think this deserves its own topic.

The wall between the queue and the storage tracks needs to go. It's ugly, and it will block riders' view of the launch for at least the last hour of their wait.

I try to think of some reason for having the wall, but all come back to the fact that if they're trying to hide something, it's pointless, seeing as how you can see all of the same things from the midway or grandstand.

That is just what I was thinking. What is that freakin' wall there for? You can't see a thing when you are deep within the queue!! You can't expect me to believe they are there only to display their little Dragster Factoids either.

I thought it might "hide" the transfer tracks. It provided some shade in the morning (not needed yesterday as it was pretty darned cool at 9 am). But the "facts" were actually pretty lame, IMO, and I would much rather see the launch.

Not only would getting rid of the wall make guests happier (I heard a lot of the general public complaining about it too), it would elminiate the problem of guests standing on the queue rails to see over the wall when the ride goes down. Last night there had to have been a person either standing on the rails or hanging from the sun shades every couple minutes. I can definitely see someone falling and getting hurt as a result.

On an unrelated note, the trash laying around in the queue yesterday was horrible. Trash cans need to be placed throughout the queue, not just on the outer edges. It's also next to impossible for sweeps to get in there and clean it up amongst all the people in line.

I agree, it didn't seem to serve a purpose and I would've much rather seen a launch than a wall. Maybe OldCPer is right, it will help to block the sun on really sunny days.

The wall hides the line! That is why they have it! Look at Raptor and how it has walls that hide the line when it is really long and in the back corner. I think the park was generating longer lines on purpose yesterday in order to keep people off the midway! Capacity on all the rides was set way to low! Anyway, if the wall wasn't thier people walking down the midway would see grumpy people standing in a crowded line instead of the wall with landscaping. It just looks better from a midway perspective. Yesterday the portions (or end) of TTD's line that was visable looked terrible, the people in line looked like they were going to kill eachother. The wall helps to eliminate some of these scenes from the midway!

Trash should be much less of a problem when the ride gets up to capacity and the line actually moves. People standing around in one place for too long usually equals trash.

Yeah that wall needs to go. The simple fix is put up a black steel fence there and hang the signs on it. We have this cool station, cool trains, and launch, but were going to block it off so no one in the front of the line sees it.

I almost got stuck on MF

The only thing I liked about the wall was that it blocked the cold wind late at night. I was so cold in line until we got behind the wall. But, other than that I hated it.

Also, did anyone notice that on the christmas tree there are a set of lights on the side facing the queue? With the wall there you can't see it at all which makes the extra set of lights completely pointless.

That's a good Point Ejector. Look at what happened in the last two rows in the MF queue.

The only reason I can see for that wall is to block the view of the line from the midway. Possibly to hide the amount of people in the queue so it doesn't discourage people considering riding it. However, they would just see the line when they entered the queue anyway.

Excellent point made about the extra set of lights facing the line. With that in mind, tell me that the wall is permanent...I doubt it is, more than likely it was there for opening weekend, at least, I hope it was.

The only reason I could see a purpose for the wall is to hide the storage area, because they wouldn't want the public to see them changing wheels or whatever. But like I said, that's pretty pointless when you can just as easily see the same thing from the midway and grandstand.

Are you sure that the extra side of the christmas tree would face the queue or would it face the midway? With the wall gone would anybody be able to touch the trains or transfer track? They might not want people touching or throwing things at the trains so until they start running all 6 trains and there are no trains on the transfer track they might remove the wall.
My first thought was that it did hide the line. Maybe they could have themed the storage area like a pit or something at the race track.

It is just going to help block the breeze. That has always been my complaint about Raptor's wall. It gets so hot in the summer when you are boxed in. Granted you aren't boxed in on TTD, but the breeze still stops in its tracks.

Blue people fly sideways when it rains....

I really don't see the purpose of the wall either, if the only reason was to prevent things from being thrown into the storage/transfer track area, why not just put up one of the black wire fences that are seen everywhere else in the park. Also a good point by Travis, once it starts getting hot and humid, that big wall definitely won't help matters. Hopefully our complaints are heard and it'll be gone in a bit.

Mr. Keller, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!

There are two opinions that seem to be universal among people I've talked to who have ridden Dragster--

#1: Dragster is an awesome ride.

#2: That wall has got to go.

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

I agree, the wall is horrible. You couldn't believe how many times I saw people standing up on the rails trying to see what is wrong or whats happening. Like someone up above said, put a nice black fence with the signs posted on that and it'll look much more better. And the trash, I agree was horrible. I saw a lot of bottles beneath the brake run.
I"m vexed as well.

It blocks air flow so when it's unbearably hot it will prevent the cooling air flow.

It blocks the view of the people waiting in line just when the ride gets exciting because they could witness the launch of the trains.

Without a wall it would be easier to moniter the queue.

Without a wall there it would cut down on the monotony of seeing a grey wall rather than real live peopel on the midway/at the launch.

I'm somewhat afraid that this could be permanent since the wall looks very well put together, and not as if it was just thrown up there in the last minute. Cedar Point...Please remove the wall...
