Four young adults (approximately 20-24 years of age) got caught today by security after they were seen removing their wristbands and giving to their friends. They had purchased two and were sharing with their other two buddies. It went on for a couple hours before I saw security finally catch up with them. They were very obvious doing it in front of a whole line of people at Raptor. The part of the wristbands with tape was pretty ripped up. I'm surprised the employees at the front of the line who were scanning didn't notice.
Any idea what the park does in this situation?

Every morning crews are told what color and ride are on the wristband (at least that's how it was the past 3 years). Employees working Fast Lane don't inspect the entire wristband. The kids that got caught probably put the ripped up tape part on the bottom, while flashing the top side of their wrist to the ride host.
Not sure what more would happen besides confiscating their Fast Lane. Maybe removal from the park. I don't know.
I would remove them from the park and say "buh bye" until next season, no maybes about it.
Promoter of fog.
I did notice they are scanning now. Probably to stop people from using one from earlier in the month

I think the colors are randomized to prevent anyone from memorizing the pattern. I notice now they put a ride logo in addition to colors on the bands.

Does the person working the Fast Lane line have a scan gun now?

Confiscating the bands is a suitable punishment. Anything beyond that would be overkill.
On a side note, they are idiots to try to pass these off in a visible location. I was give a couple FastLane bands from a family that was leaving as I was coming in at 6 pm. That's the only illicit activity on my record ;)
I don't agree that it's overkill. These kids knew what they were doing and that it was wrong. They were simply trying to beat the system and it worked until they got caught
Defiantly not overkill. Confiscate the wristbands, if they have season passes void them, escort them out of the park and ban them the rest of the season. Shouldnt be any different than of they were caught trying to steal a $65 hoodie from a giftshop. (If they dont do all that for physical theft they should)
At Kennywood I saw someone get kicked out of the park after intentionally spitting upward on a ride so it hits other people. He only got banned for 5 hours though based on what I heard. So I think banned for the season is major overkill.

Banned for the season for stealing isnt overkill. A 5 hour ban for spitting on people is underkill.
Let the best of the authorities handle the situation:
I would rather not get spit on, especially by some of the people that go to Kennywood. I've seen better looking people at the Trumbull County Fair. And if you've been there, it's not saying much :)
I think anything more than kicking them out of the park for the rest of the day is major overkill too. And they didn't really steal anything, maybe mild fraud. It really is just some kids trying to save a few bucks no big deal.
But why is Kennywood a model for how parks treat patrons who commit crimes on their property? After the well-publicized brawl at Kennywood in May I bet they treat situations involving criminal activity a little differently now. Store patrons who are busted for shoplifting are arrested, charged, and often banned from the store they stole from. Why should Cedar Point treat it any differently? No one forced them to buy Fast Lane... If they wanted to "save money" they shouldn't have bought any Fast Lane passes at all. It's theft. Everyone else in that line paid to be in it.

It's theft by deception.

Sharing food is saving money. It may be no big deal to you. However there is a potential loss of revenue. Which is then passed on to you, the consumer.
Wait, Fast Pass Plus? Why are you talking about Disney on a Cedar Point forum?

I edited my post to be clear. They were young adults between 20-24 years of age, not kids as I had initially posted.
I spent the rest of the day at the park. I didn't see either of the 4 guys again, so I am assuming they were asked to leave.
Fast Lane Plus today at the park was $95 a piece. They could have easily got 4 Regular Fast Lane for $50-60 a piece. Spending nearly the same as 2 w/ Fast Lane Plus.
I understand this doesn't seem like theft to some posters on here, but wouldn't you be singing a different tune had they stole $180 of merchandise from a store? That'd be the equivalent of several t-shirts.
I was thinking about being tossed from the park after doing this. If they weren't season ticket holders they probably spent $50 a ticket for admission for the two friends without fast lane plus. Then the other two could have bought the ticket + fast lane plus combo for $125 online. That would bring their total to around $350 plus commuting costs like gas/tolls. They got tossed out at 12:15pm from what I could tell.
So they spent $400 approximately to spend 10:00am - 12:00pm in the park, or $200/hr to ride a few rides.
I believe kicking them out is more than enough punishment.

Really? Every hear of theft of service? Just because it is not a physical product does not mean it is not stealing. Is it ok for kids to steal because they want to save some bucks? How about if they steal groceries because they want to save some bucks on lunch? CP would be fully justified to put them under arrest and prosecute for theft of service in addition to throwing them out.
