I don't see DT lasting more than a few more years.

I don't see anyone here really having any clue as to what Cedar Point's intentions are one way or the other.

Jugga, True it isn't blocking anything special but it just doesn't fit in. (Anyone else notice the SixFlags ads on the site now?) *** Edited 4/4/2006 10:56:16 PM UTC by CP4eva'04***

101 on Magnum and counting...
Just to throw my two cents in.. during those hot days, I don't mind spending 15 minutes inside an air conditioned building. It's quite relaxing, and you have to be weird if you don't like the black lights.

DT is a fun ride - you can't even compare it to MF or TTD, but it serves a certain purpose/sector. I do think though it was a better ride as Avalanche Run, and I certainly wouldn't object to them removing the building and letting it run open-air again.
If I remember right, it was enclosed because the sand would collect in the trough which is not good. So the odds of it being opened are somewhere between slim and none. I did like DJ's idea of using a slotted track in places to all the sand to filter out rather than just collect in the low spots.

I would like to say first after a cooling off period, that I am sorry if this caused any debates. While someone above mentioned...No I don't want Cedar Point to tear down TTD or MF. They are good rides for those who are alot braver than me. I understand that there are many many many fans of those rides. I would not want them to be disappointed by the removal of them.
I am just one that likes the little rides, I happen to like Disaster Transport and Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Bluestreak, and the Iron Dragon.
Maybe this will be the year that I face some of my fears...Yes Fears...Now go ahead and laugh at this...I am scared of Roller Coasters....I am also sort of envious of the people that I see standing in line at Magnum, MF, TTD, and Mean Streak.
But I just wanted to say I was sorry if I offended anyone. And I would like any tips or suggestions on how to cure my fears!
I'm positive some sort of engineering could be called upon to figure out an answer to the sand problem.
Avalanche Run was my favorite ride when I was a kid. I would be very thrilled if they returned to all its glory
I liked it a lot better as Avalanche Run.
Heres the thing; i admit the "ride" is fun...and good for those seeking a mild ride.
BUT (and this is a big but)
Not keeping the theming up ruins it. Period. Its like the illegitimate kid of Cedar Point. They neglect it...and pretend they dont. They should, in my humble opinion, either keep up the theming, scrap the theming 100% (and not go half ass), or tear it down. Its like opening a restaraunt and selling burgers raw. If you cant cook it right dont sell it
Braden, I was also scared of roller coasters when I was smaller. I started with the smaller coasters and as time passed I moved up to the next biggest coaster, that I wasn't quite comfortable with and once I got off I wanted to ride that coaster over and over again.
I would say pick the coaster that is on the boarder line of what you are comfortable with and go to the next highest and keep pushing yourself as long as you feel comfortable enought. :)

my opinion i would start with the biggest coaster first. Dragster- or Millennium. A) Because the lines will be a lot shorter. meaning less time for you to stand there and ponder things in your mind, making things a lot worse than they actually are. Rollercoasters are meant to be fun and enjoyeable and give you that "gitty" feeling. But at the same time, they are also intended to scrare the s**t out of you my it's structure and sound. Queue lines tend to be intertwined through parts of the ride to intimidate you. But once you get on, it's All Good. B) If you ride the biggest ride first, you will know in your mind that that is as scary as it gets, nothing in the park is scarier than that, because it is the largest ride. You know what i mean? But that's how i look at it, i don't agree with the 'ride the smallest first'.
And now by the time you are done reading this post, you could have ridden Top Thrill 2 times!!
Tim
Braden,
Having ridden every coaster at the park, I thought nothing would give me that "im scared and i need to pee right now" feeling ever again. But sitting in the front car of TTD for my first ride on it ever 2 years ago, I felt like I was back to my first ride ever on Gemini....
My point is, like 420TTD said above, they are designed to scare the s*** out of you...and even the most experienced, veteran riders still get scared on a big ride....thats part of the fun!
The fact is, ESPECIALLY at Cedar Point, your safety is their absolute number 1 concern. Its safer than flying, which is safer than driving. I think I agree with TTD420 about the small ride thing as well. When I was younger, I stuck to the small rides, and honestly, it only made getting on Magnum for the first time all the harder.
I would try Millenium Force. You have no idea how smooth and freeing that ride is...it feels "safer" than the junior gemini! (and no, im not kidding)

I brought my sister to the park for the first time last year. Her first ride ever was Dragster in the front seat. That solved all problems of fear (minus maXair, she wouldn't do it).
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
To me Disaster Transport, is more of a fun action ride that has good themeing in it(and the themeing is maintained). And that bobsleds to me are great and fun in different way's than it's bigger brothers are. I remeber the first time I rode it in 2001, it has a 50 min wait to it(this was in June right after school got out). I like it beacuse its different, and some of it is in total black out!!!!! ;)
Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"
Braden, First off Let me tell you that I too am a little scared of Roller Coasters as well. And like you I was a little envious of the people standing in line being brave......but then I went to one of Cedar Points Gift Shops. I saw the cool Coffee Mugs and Big Beverage Mugs that they have...I collect Coffee mugs...I wanted one. I made a deal with myself to reward myself for riding the one mentioned on the cup. I have all but the Top Thrill Dragster one. And well This year I will buy it!!!!!! I guess what I am trying to say is that after you ride a "big" ride...Reward yourself by buying a memento of your experience. Although the biggest reward is coming back to the park and driving on the causeway and looking at MF and saying to yourself or to anyone else "yep I rode that!" And the best thing to add.."And it was (explicit word) Great!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck braden!
Maybe the two of us will meet on our first ride of TTD?!
Cedar Point 4-ever
Thank you so much for all your support and advice....I was looking at Cedar Points Website and doing the POV vids of some of the rides I am scared to ride. I was wondering if they are true to what the ride is like? I had a bit of a revelation while watching the MF one. I thought I can do this....And I had the guts to do it right now!! Man I wish the park was open now...I would so bring my newfound courage today and ride MF. But I guess I have to wait. :(
Thanks Again Everyone. :)

DT isn't the only ride or attraction with a theme or effects that CP doesn't maintain like they should. Can anyone remember the early days of Magnum when there was futuristic sound effects, smoke and strobe lighting in the last 2 of Magnum's tunnels? There is no reason why they didn't keep up with DT's theme, other than neglect, it's very sad. I'd like to see Avalanche Run back, but I doubt that'll ever happen.
The Amazement Park
I think its more accurate to say that it was intentional neglect, or something to that effect. The cost of maintaining the theming versus the ridership probably just made them reconsider the whole idea. They do a little bit, but its obviously much lower cost stuff than the original package.
