Hey, DJ, for your info, I do know the VP at CP, and I am not kidding. He did tell me that it is something big but did not say if it is for next year or the following year. Woodies take long to build and if they are going for a record breaker it may take all of next season. I lived right next to PKI for a couple years and was there when SOB was built. They starterd building that ride in July of the year before it opened.
So it could be for a woodie being built in 07. There is no doubt that the parts there other than th ewood are for a screming swing. Plus, the wood there is to dark in color for the Mean Streak.
Blue Gemini Always Wins.
Aren't Matterhorn, Super Himalaya, Scrambler, Calypso all the same because they go around in a circle? "the spinning part"
How about Magnum and Millennium Force? Both have lift hills, steep drops and a fast ride that completes the circuit back at the station.
"But, Walt, there may be some similarities, but they are different ride experiences!"
Yeah.
I know, I know...
To your questions, I pose two more questions:
Were any of: Matterhorn, Super Himalaya, Scrambler & Calypso added in consecutive years?
Or were Magnum & MF added in consecutive years?
I realize that the rides are different experiences, but to add them in consecutive years would seem like poor planning. The GP might conceive them as too similar, possibly resulting in a "yawn" reaction when they're advertised next spring.

I felt the same as dj...I don't want a screaming swing. Then I read Walt's comment and started to think about it. I started thinking about how Walt is so right about how many of the rides are the same...even more than what Walt mentioned. How many merry-go-rounds are there? Demon Drop and Power Tower are kinda the same...and Raptor and Mantis. Yet each one has something a little different. Thanks to Walt, I started liking the idea of a screaming swing once I realized how much I like Maxair. But Maxair has a tendency to make me dizzy and maybe the screaming swing won't, which is perfect.

or possibly you're underestimating..
A lot of the public looks at Magnum and MF and sees the exact same ride. A lot of the TEENS that goto Cedar Point will look at Demon Drop and Power Tower and say something about having 2 of the same ride. I have had my own friends tell me things to the extent of not going on Iron Dragon because Raptor is way better, or lets not go on Magnum because MF is bigger and more fun. They just dont appreciate these things like we do.
I don't doubt that the public would see a SS as very similar to Maxair, but that doesn't mean I personally won't go ride it.
MHW - CP hasn't had "proper" advertising lately, though I've heard they have a new company on the job for next year, so who knows?
Thats a prime example about Maggie & MF, Grovite. Most of us will always ride both, cause they are different. But how often is Maggie's queue full? Ever since MF, the bar has been raised for the GP: "Why go on Maggie when there's a bigger one that goes faster?"
EDIT: Why complain?
Less people in park = less $$ in park.
Less $$ in park = more cutbacks in park. 'Nuff said.

More people in ride queues still doesn't always mean more people ride the ride. Take a look (again) at these numbers of rides given from the CedarPoint.com FAQ for the 2004 season:
# 1 Raptor- 2,089,853
# 2 Magnum XL-200- 2,080,903
# 3 Gemini- 1,729,787
# 4 Iron Dragon- 1,685,520
# 5 Sky Ride- 1,605,543
# 6 C.P. & L.E. Railroad- 1,589,150
# 7 Millennium Force- 1,525,402
# 8 Corkscrew- 1,281,067
# 9 Mantis- 1,150,304
#10 Wicked Twister- 1,044,581
Magnum clearly still gets more riders than Millennium Force by leaps and bounds. In fact, it's nearly tied for first.
