If one has emotional and memory ties to it, I get the sentimental factor involved in adoring a ride, but I have to admit, I honestly don't know one thing about the ride experience itself that makes it appealing.
The look? Get it. Rode it with your grandpa? Get it. But the ride itself? I'm right with you 99er...what is it? Now I'm curious.
And yes, very pleased to see that KI made a decision. It only took them 3 years.

Those that like Mean Streak haven't been on good wooden roller coasters.
That's not true. I've been on "good" wooden coasters and I still like Mean Streak.
Favorite CP Roller Coasters:
1- Millennium Force
2- Top Thrill Dragster
3- Magnum XL-200
4- Gemini
5- Mean Streak

^So why do you like Mean Streak?
Well, I have a few different reasons.
1. The look
2. Memories
3. I sort of like the roughness.
4. There is a little airtime in the ride.
5. The view from the top of the lift hill is cool.
6. The first drop isn't all that bad.
That's all of the reasons that I can come up with right now. The people that still like Mean Streak are lucky because the lines are almost always short, so more rides for us.:-)

Well if you like roughness then yeah, I guess you would like Mean Streak.

What is so fun about Mean Streak? A lot of people say it's one of their favorites and that they love it but I never hear why. I can explain why I love riding Voyage, El Toro and Jack Rabbit (my top 3 fav) but what is to love about Mean Streak other than the fact that it is another roller coaster at Cedar Point?
I like Mean Streak because it takes you throughout the structure and it has fun turns that feel like your going to fall right out and night rides are the best because the whole ride is light up and you don't know where your going. Yeah, it may be rough but you can't expect it to be butter smooth like Millennium Force.
Favorite coaster: Millennium Force
Favorite flat: maXair
^Seriously, go ride some good wooden coasters. They don't have to be rough. Mean Streak doesn't have much to justify its existence.
And my commute has more airtime than Mean Streak.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
No one is expecting it to be as smooth as MF. I just don't think I should be able to get a smoother ride out of the Jack Rabbit (built in 1920ish) than on Mean Streak. But its roughness isn't even at the top of my list anyway. Mean Streak has a slow boring layout which is why I dislike it and wouldn't mind seeing it go.
I loved the villian... but it is sadly no more
A new wooden coaster could be built to have a lot of track, fun turns and airtime, weaving in and out of the structure and could be a heck of a lot more fun.
Something new back there would be awesome. Please listen CP.

So, you've been on other good wooden coasters, but MS is still number 5 on your favorite coaster list. Hell, MS isn't even on my top 5 at CP alone. Not even on my top 10 either, WE ranks higher for me.
Favorite Wood: 1. Balder (Liseberg), 2. Boulder Dash (Lake Compounce), 3. Voyage (Holiday World), 4. Phoenix (Knoebels) 5. The Beast (Kings Island)
FavoriteSteel:1.Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park) 2. Rita (Alton Towers) 3.Magnum XL-200 (CP) 4. Nemisis (Alton Towers) 5. X (SFMM)
Any benefits except sentimentality can be emulated on a newer, better woodie. Great view from lift hill? Not hard to emulate, could probably be even better. Intimidating look? Again, could be done again.
You know, I never knew people had to explain themselves as to why they like a ride. But the reasons why I like Mean Streak is:
1) The look
2) The roar of the train passing by
3) The airtime provided on some hills
4) The location
5) The confusing layout
6) The parts that are retracked are smooth as glass IMO
7) Minus the trims, it gives a great ride (even after riding The Voyage)
What reasons do you lik El Torro?

Oops. I made a mistake in that list. It should say "Favorite CP Roller Coasters. If I were to make a list of my favorite roller coasters overall, Mean Streak wouldn't be in the top five. I guess that I will fix that soon:-) Besides, do we really need to argue about whether or not Mean Streak is fun or not? Some people like it and some people don't. If Cedar Point ever gets rid of Mean Streak, I hope that it is replaced by another woodie.
Favorite CP Roller Coasters:
1- Millennium Force

^^I love El Toro (it's now my #2 favorite coaster) because of these reasons:
1. Almost 200 ft tall
2. 70mph
4. 4400 feet long
5. 76 degree first drop, almost as steep as Millennium
6. Super smooth. IMO it's smoother than most of the steel coasters at CP
7. Positive forces so strong I can barely keep my hands up
8. Negative forces so strong I can't even expain how amazing it is
9. View from the top
10. Menacing look to it
11. Headchoppers
And I could keep going on and on... Words can't even describe how intense and crazy this coaster is. Fanny Packs aren't even allowed on it. All I can say is that a coaster of this intensity level and ride experience is NEEDED at CP.

Too bad Balder wasn't at CP, then some of you could experience a bad ass wooden coaster. Balder is not very tall, is very compact, and thrilling from start to finish.

You didn't post a single positive of Mean Streak that couldn't be emulated by a new Woodie.
However, you can't just judge a coaster by tangibles. Or else we would all be clamoring for rides that have mediocre stats for the year 2012 to be torn down. But Mean Streak doesn't really have many intangible benefits, most people will tell you they think its boring.
Do you guys think it's possible to get rid of one of the car rides and replace it with a decent sized woodie.

^ From what I heard from different people at Coaster Mania this year, Mean Streak is tolerable compared to Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure. From what people were saying, they said they would ride Mean Streak any day over Shivering Timbers. So I guess we can consider Mean Streak decent especially with all the wood work they have done the last couple of seasons.
