Accountants must get a pass. Just like I must get one when it comes to anything math related.
And that's my 3 cents.
That post is much more amusing while reading it in Farmer Frans voice.

What if Cedar Point were to do a sandcastle suites renovation instead of the soak city expansion that you are all so confident about? I could see CP doing that this year while saying nothing about the Mean Streak renovation. Then they leave the door open for the Soak City expansion, the RMC Mean Streak, and maybe something else at the Shoot the Rapids site all to open in 2018.What if the big 2017 project is a record breaking number of new web cams?
There's a large spot of recently cleared land right next to Soak City and something is "afoot"...
There has been a great deal of discussion whether or not CP would do 2 projects in one year, so yeah... Why the heck not do a flume dark ride at the STR Rapids site, a Soak City expansion, and an RMC of MS all in the same year.
All of that seems well thought out, logical, and is the simplest explanation ( I love Occams razor btw) so yes indeed 2018 will be epiczzz
It's not as unrealistic as you make it sound. At the shoot the Rapids site I could see a GCI built there. A fairly recent cost estimation that I've seen is from a good-size woodie in Europa Park in 2012 that was around $10 million. A reasonable price for an RMC mean streak would be $10-15 million. I also thought I saw some mention of a water park closing down which could mean the water park expansion could just be the transport of those rides to cedar point. My guesstimate for the cost would be roughly $30 million for 2018. Considering a sandcastle suites renovation wouldn't be nearly as ambitious as the Breakers renovation I would guess that my suggested possibility is affordable. Whether Cedar Point would ever do such a thing is unlikely. After all what else would there be to improve the park in 2019?
The fact of the matter is that we are all enthusiasts that have different desires for the park, my desires apparently being more ambitious than everyone else's. We truly have no clue what direction the guys up top want to go. I'm merely just offering my take.

Not sure what DorneyParkNuts did wrong in his post. Other that a few missing periods. I think he's right. The big announcement was nothing more than a donation to the Lebron James foundation. Wohoo. big announcement right! And he said that Mean Streak was coming down. I guess that here on this forum dissing James and suggesting that there isn't going to be an RMC isn't PC. But he did do it in english. Just should have used a period or two.
Why would Cedar Fair want to build a steel coaster on a 20 year old wooden structure? Why would it matter to an enthusiast what kind of structure it was on if it was a steel coaster? And why would they want to cater to a growing amount of people who cheer for addition by subtraction by having it done within a timeline that is unrealistic. What is the point in having 3 or more large parcels of land designated for future development at once? And by more i'm talking about the dinosaurs.
I'm all for having new attractions built on the parcels that were already empty before we worry about having Mean Streak open next year as an RMC.

Well, exactly. It's not that hard to compose comprehensible sentences, which shows respect for what's being written and the people who are going to read it. Icouldeschewtheuseofthespacebar, but I want people to easily read what I've typed.

Well, exactly. It's not that hard to understand that there are 7.4 billion people on the planet, and not all of those people speak perfect English. I know that it's a crazy, insane, almost repulsive idea, but some of these people are allowed to have the freedom to post on an internationally accessible site. Can you believe the audacity of some people? Existing without knowing how to form absolutely perfect and flawless English sentences? Disgusting. I mean, I personally know every language on Earth. That way, I can post on South African websites and type in perfect Afrikaans. I don't even want to imagine what would happen if I typed "goeie" instead of "groot" in Afrikaans. Or mispronounced a Mandarin consonant when trying to talk about local culture. God only knows how disrespectful it would be, for me, as a foreigner, to mispronounce parts of another language. What if I was typing? I don't think I could possibly be more disrespectful if I did not have good sentence structure typing in German. Whew, good thing I'm a perfect human being!
How dramatic.
I'm not asking for "absolutely perfect and flawless English sentences." Just for some punctuation. I'm still not sure what that sentence that includes LeBron James means, really.

By the way, is Soak City expected to move into where Challenge Park is? I know that Skyscraper and the go karts were removed.

Just a wild guess but perhaps because there have been many conversions done on unpopular wood coasters that turned them into very popular steel coasters. MS is also a very impressive structure so why would one not want to try and save that?
Why would it matter to an enthusiast what kind of structure it was on if it was a steel coaster? And why would they want to cater to a growing amount of people who cheer for addition by subtraction by having it done within a timeline that is unrealistic. The parcel by Soak City will most likely be used for a SC expansion. Converting MS turns that wasted space into space that is not wasted. As far as the STR site goes, I think that was a rushed timeline, possibly due to safety concerns but that's just a guess.
Addition by subtraction in regards to MS, well, the vast majority of people felt MS was a piece of junk... which it is.
I'm all for having new attractions built on the parcels that were already empty before we worry about having Mean Streak open next year as an RMC.
I'm all for having a SC expansion open next year and a conversion of MS soon, whether that happens in 2017 or 2018 etc... Like I said the STR site could very well have been a rushed timeline to remove the vertical sections of the ride, perhaps CP management felt the ride could no longer be operated safely. Expanding SC, and converting MS leaves only the STR site as an open parcel. DA already occupies space on Millenium Island therefore it isn't an open parcel, debatable about space that is wasted, but nonetheless not open land.
What happens to the MS site is unclear for now, but I'm assuming the Soak City expansion is a definite go. Hopefully the CP Resort Gate gets some TLC as well. Exciting times all around!

Yes, it really is as unrealistic as I made it sound. CP will not be expanding SC, building a brand new GCI, and converting MS in the same season.
The fact of the matter is that we are all enthusiasts that have different desires for the park, my desires apparently being more ambitious than everyone else's. We truly have no clue what direction the guys up top want to go. I'm merely just offering my take.
Of course everyone has a wish list, I'd like a B&M gigs because my favorite coaster types are hypers/gigas and I think the B&M's are a completely different experience than what CP currently has. However, I fully understand that CP would be better off spending money on other things that would benefit the park more.
I'd say we do indeed know where the guys up top are taking the park. The direction they are headed is to turn it into more of a resort destination where families will spend multiple days there and maximize per capita guest spending.
By rushed timeline i was talking about the idea that this RMC reconstruction is going to be ready on opening day next year. No logic or prior project can be pointed to that suggests this is reality. It's just a wishlist. Some might want to believe that it is going to accompany a GCI and a Soak City addition.
A little about myself. I will ride Maverick and Millenium during early entry or late at night. But during the day when the park is busy I go and ride the rides CP was famous for when I was young. Corkscrew, the Streaks, or even the sissy swings. Anything with a 10 minute wait, give or take. I go enough that I can get my rides without waiting hours upon hours in lines. During the afternoon I'd just assume spend time at the resort or my campsite in Lighthouse Point. I still am kind of butthurt about Mean Streak being taken out because I want rides but not the wait. Without having to fork out $100 for fastpass. And I liked the ride. All 25 years of it.
I am also invested in Cedar Fair. So when I read peoples opinions that are based on wishlist fantasies of Cedar Point investing $80 in capital in one calender year I speak up. Because your ideas of Soak City expansion, GCI, dark ride, and RMC all together at once aren't reality. Unless you suspend the dividend. I'd just assume the dividend goes up. I'd just assume that the people with these pipe dreams have a goose egg invested. Or else they wouldn't be making suggestions about what's possible and what's not.
Anyways let's look at prior projects.
Maverick: year and a half prior attractions were removed. Site was worked on during the season with construction starting a year later. Ride was built during the offseason.
Gatekeeper: year and a half prior attractions were removed. Site was worked on during the season with construction starting a year later. Ride was built during the offseason.
Valryvn: year and a half prior attractions were removed. Site was worked on during the season with construction starting a year later. Ride was built during the offseason.
I do hope that the Shoot the Rapids site gets a dark ride on it this year. I hope that gets checked off the list. And that would viably fit into the parks budget along with what soak city gets. 25 million or less a year as opposed to 80.
Personally, I'd love seeing a dark ride added to the park, especially if they incorporated a flume/ dark ride into one. I think that is a gap in the CP line up that needs to be addressed.
A realistic wish list for me would be that dark ride at STR this year or next, take care of SC resort entrance area, and then a few years from now re-do MS. However, since they announced the closure of MS I think that project will be much sooner. I think MS is a terrible ride, but I must admit I didn't think it'd be closed this year as I thought this year would be Soak City getting some attention.
