Six Flags Worlds of Adventure: Now what?

From what I saw whenever I was there, Oceana was a popular attraction. I think that the only reason that they got rid of the dolphins is the fact that they got a disease and some of them died off. They decided not to replace them for some reason, but I don't know what that reason is. (I think it may have had something to do with the penguins and dolphins dying. I'm sure some animal rights activists complained about it.)

However, you are right. There is plenty for kids to do at Cedar Point. There are lots of kiddie rides. Camp Snoopy (probably the best themed area of the park). The Petting Farm. And lots of flat rides that little ones can enjoy with their parents. Plus there are some enjoyable shows, the train, the paddle wheel excursions, etc... My five year old nephew loves Cedar Point. In fact, I think that he enjoys it more than he enjoyed Walt Disney World, where loud noises on many of the dark rides scared him.

Ohio has three great family destinations with Cedar Point, Paramount Kings Island, and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. They have all been successful for years (even if under different names in some cases) and they will all continue to be successful as long as they are run well.

I don't believe people are actually complaining about low prices. Why do you care? Take advatage while you can because I'm sure once they establish a customer base, those prices are going up. You guys forget that SF has numerous other parks to draw revenue from. SFGADv and SFMM are still big money makers for the chain, and I think SFGAm and SFOT will have record breaking seasons this year. A lot of people will go to SFWOA out of curiosity this year, and SF has a chance to hook them, or lose them, we'll see. And as my baseball coach used to say, "Throw last season out like dirty bath water, it's a new year folks". SFO doesn't necessarily have to bring their low batting average into 2001.

PS: The person who said SFMW killed their whale, that was a low blow. Vicca DID NOT die because of poor care. If you want the truth, i'll send it to ya.
everyone says that the families will love this, well what about all the families that went to Sea World cause it was only like $20. Now its like $36. Won't that keep alot of families with small children from going??? Just a thought./.....
You people confuse me...a year ago I kept hearing "Six Flags wont have anything over on Cedar Point..now it seems some of you are going OH NO..this could be competition.. I think its great!! Two great parks in my back yard! Im really surprized that alot of you didnt see them buying out Sea World..I figured they would..and I would almost bet the farm..that in a few years..we will say bye bye to the animals at Sea World to make way for more rides and coasters in a huge mega park!! WWWOOOOO HOOOOOO!! I love it! Competition is a good thing..makes each park better and better in their own way! Lets just hope this helps the food there!
Repeat business is what will keep CP running for many decades to come. My grandfather use to take my father to CP, my father used to take his future wife to CP (my father showed me his High School Yearbook from his Sophomore year, and on the back page he left a note for his dad "Went to Cedar Point on the cycle") and my father took me and my siblings to CP. You don't hear from other people in Michigan about Six Flags or even Kings Island. Word of mouth and repeat business will keep CP going for many generations

Cedar Point is very popular in Michigan. I think it will be a bit of a hard sell to get people to drive to Six Flags -- another hour past Sandusky -- to get to SFWoA. SF may have a better chance to compete in mid-Ohio against PKI, but given their muddled media message (3 names in 3 years, for example) SF is coming from way behind and will have to work so much harder just to catch up to PKI market penetration, leave aside surpassing it. I'll admit to being a little sour on Six Flags, but I would much rather see this park succeed than fail. I hope they know what they're doing.

But on the flip side, CP is also very popular in Western PA, and it's pretty likely that the Six Flags folks are going to go hard after that market.

And they'll probably be more successful in competing for tourist dollars out of PA-- though again they run into that marketing problem.

By which I mean... Cedar Point can devote all of its advertising dollars to saying 'hey, come to Cedar Point!' because most of the people seeing the advertising are going to have some familiarity with the park. Whereas Six Flags will have to devote part of its advertising dollars to identifying the park and its location.

tohot2se, I hope that Six Flags does not decide to get rid of the animals and I don't think that they will because; 1.Six Flags is spending money to replace animals that are going away, 2. Six Flags seems to have tentative plans to add to the animal collection in its five year plan. 3. Six Flags Marine World is still operating with animals and Six Flags seems to believe that this is a good marketing tool for them (which I have to agree)

However, saying all of that, I will say that Six Flags surprised me by managing to buy Sea World (I didn't expect Busch to sell.) By deciding to combine the two parks. By adding four coasters in one year last year. And by adding a Flying Dutchman coaster this year. All of these things, plus more have surprised me about the Six Flags company, so I can see anything happening in the future. I guess that this will probably continue to be one wild ride for anyone that's paying attention.

(sorry for the muddled punctuation in this message, I was trying to fit a lot in)

Guess I was some what right!!! I think it would have better to keep it some what seperate so those going to the marine side wouldn't have to pay the same price as two parks! I guess time will tell!!! Although I have never been happy with six flags parks.

First off Natas, SFWoA won't have to pay the lifegueards because they will be too busy sleeping.

Ahhhhhhhh, I can see it now. A nice sunny day at SFWoA. To my left, children crying. To my right, Bugs Bunny dancing around. Oh look, the rides are all broken down, how nice. And what's this, people are trying to pronouce Geauga Lake! Good for them. Now lets see all of the nice animals. Yeay! Oh look beer cans in the dolphin tanks. Fish getting caught in 6 pack rings. And look! Another Batman and Bugs Bunny show! We can't get enough of those!

Yes I am over reacting. Even though SFWoA will be whatever you think, good or bad, you cannot get away from the fact that they offer 2 of the best wooden coasters around: Big Dipper and Villain.
You guys kill me! The same ones complaining about Six Flags..are the same ones that go..I guess I dont understand it..if you hate the park..why do you continue to go? Also..why does it always have to be a "hate" that park thing? As my parents use to say when I was younger.."go to all the parks in the area you can..there are kids in other countries that dont have a park to go to"! LOL
"Ride your roller coasters. There are coaster-starved people in North Dakota."

Sounds like something RideMom might say... :)

Is your dad Rideman Sr, then? I know he's got a ride cert too.
Nah, I think he would be RideDad!!

Furthermore,

As an employee at Cedar Point, and having heard these stories of Six Flags/GL/whatever, I am appalled. I have been to other parks around and I think that there is something more at Cedar Point which makes the employees that little bit nicer than the others. I have always been a person that likes to have a clean park, and friendly employees and good rides. PKI was ok when I went. Dirty paths and rude employees, but the good rides made up for it. Busch Gardens Williamsburg gets 66% rating for nice employees and a great setting and clean paths, but their rides werent a thrill seekers paradise.
Cedar Point is above and byond the next level. Nice employees, clean paths (yeah theyve won awards), world class rides, what more can you say?
I might try Six Flags ______________(insert name here) this summer if I have the chance to make it up that way. What will I see? I dont know. Will it compare with CP? Definately not!

Because I said so.
Visiting GL and Sea World in the early 90's while i was working at CP, you could always see that potential of something happening like this. With two parks this close to one another and also being to close to so much population, I really do believe this is going to work! Some one said before that this is going to be good for CP, i agree! In the short term though? I don't think so, but wait a few years, you'll see CP catch up to where they are supposed to be. With a mega company like Six flags, that place is going to grow, grow, and grow!! Do you think CP should of done something sooner? With there record at state, is it to late for CP?
....Tune in tomorrow and find out the fate of Cedar Point....
I don't get how everyone says how nice CP's employees are and how clean the paths are over other parks. I didn't think they were any better or any worse than all of the other parks I've visited. I've been to PKI over 100 times and never noticed excess trash or mean employees. None of the employees at CP asked if I wanted a recliner and a massage while waiting in line at Mantis. And I wouldn't attempt to lick off the ground. So what has employees at CP done especially for you that one at another park hasn't? And do you stare at the ground all day looking for trash?
To a point I have to agree with you Coast...as far as the employee's go that is...I feel that some say that certain crews of employees are nice for the fact that they know them so well. I myself dont know any employee that works there..and have run across some "not so nice ones" just like at other parks. Now as far as the cleanliness of the park..I would have to say that CP is pretty much up there as far as one of the best kept ones..but I dont think there are many parks that can hold a candle to Busch Gardens in Virginia, that park is number one on best kept!
Actually, yes I do look for trash when I walk the midways of Cedar Point or any other park. I realize and am not saying that CP's paths are perfectly spotless, but I do say that I have never had to bend over and pick up trash in front of a person designated to do that very job while that person stands there and smokes a cigarette on the midway at Cedar Point. This has happened to me at King's Island. In fact it happened both days I was there!!!
I was looking at the results of the survey and I am seeing that the general public see the employees at CP as liking their jobs for the most part. Yes I will admit at times I got frustrated and wanted to quit, but for the most part I loved what I did, the people I worked with and the friends that I made. If I were doing the same survey about PKI, or even BGW for that matter, I would have to vote their employees as indifferent about their jobs, or attitude could have been better. It seemed to me that they were just ther to be ther ebecause they had nothing better to do with their time. Even if you don't like something you are doing, at least make it fun!

Okay ill shut up now.
