Reminds me of Clark Griswold's trip to Walley World:)

But I don't feel bad for people that have that happen to them. If I am traveling more then an hour to a park, mall, movie theater, etc. I check online to make sure the place is open. Common sense.

I don't see Cedar Point hurting from this. Why else would they have done it?

That can't be good for the resorts that weekend either. I won't be staying onpoint that weekend if their closed on saturday.

Spell it with me now...

They're = they are, it's a freakin' contraction.
There = a place, over there, over here.
Their = when it belongs to them.

Seriously, how hard is it?

Does anyone know how much it would cost for a person to rent out the whole park for a day? I'm guessing something in the 100,000's. Not that I want to since the cost would be a lot to pay for since I don't own a huge company like GM or something.

I estimate that it would take roughly $5 million dollars for the park to close the park on a Saturday at this point in the season. That is about the most that the park and resorts will make on a very busy day. As an added advantage, some of those who otherwise would have went that day will go another day instead.

I could see Progressive, a company which pulls in about $15 billion a year in total revenue, pay $5 million to rent the park for their employees.

It was only several years ago that the Longaberger basket company would buyout the park on the Saturday in May, that would typically be opening day. I believe the last time that happened was in 2003, when opening day came earlier in the season on Sunday May 4th.

I'm sure it's worth while for Cedar Point to be renting out the park that day. It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch either.

As for those retards that went to CP to find it closed - wtf? Way to be a failure at life :>

Progressive may be a large company, but how many employees live in the immediate area of Cedar Point? How many companies actually have 4,000 employees within 3 hours of Sandusky?

I'm guessing there are a lot of companies around the area who have thousands of employees who also have families to fill the park. We're talking about Cleveland, Toledo, and Detroit all being within easy driving distance to the park.

Wasn't it Longaberger who rented out the park for a couple years on the Saturday before the park opened for the season?

Yes, it was Longaberger. They did it for several seasons, I believe.

For five seasons they did that, I was at every one. The crowds that attended were enough that didn't make the day any better then a Saturday in June though. The only reason that made it worth going was that you received 5 free tickets.

You guys should feel LUCKY!! that is only one day. Dorney is my home park and it is always rented out for the first two weekends in Sept. Now this year they are closed Sept 6,7,13,14,and 20. that is 20 days I have to go without riding. I found out last year who rents it out so I could buy tickets to go.

Agreed. King's Island is rented out usually several weekends in September too. We're lucky there aren't more of them.

according to the new 2008 rack brochure, it says that they're open from noon to 8 on both that saturday and sunday.

Interesting... Perhaps this is a recently planned event, and that brochure was produced prior to this event being set?

The site and the brochure say two different things. I don't have the slightest idea why.
