Because that's something we all have lying around the house.

Alright yesterday leaving the park to head for dinner at Dave's during the rain I asked the attendent if we could just scan our passes to re-enter the park. He said it depends...some passes scan back, some don't. And some passes that scan at Marina don't scan at front or Soak City or whatever. Apparently they don't have a clue why not all passes work all the time. So he tested our passes and we found that ours will rescan at Marina, but it's good to check beforehand.
Whether or not it "scans" should be irrelevant. Your photo appears in the screen regardless.

One would assume, unless the picture doesn't appear on a "failed scan," and instead the gate person just sees a big red box "ALREADY USED TODAY" or something.
The point is, why was multi-scanning of the platinum pass ever not allowed? Are the security measures of smeared blob of fluorescent ink on your wrist, or a peanuts character indelibly etched onto the back of your hand more robust than a physically held card attached to your photo ID in the system?
Most likely because the small picture that was on the pass made it easier for someone other than the pass holder to use the pass. The large pictures on the monitor make that much more difficult.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
So sorry to bump an old topic, but I scanned my pass several times on Friday. I went back to Sandcastle a couple of times, went to the marina for the cruise and went to Famous Dave's. All re-scanning my pass. One employee at the Soak City gate said we had to get a handstamp, but it still works re-scanning your pass. Everyone else in my group did it as well without issues.

What's ridiculous is thinking that getting your pass back out is easier than showing the back of your hand.
I asked the young lady at the front gate if I needed a stamp, as I wasn't even sure I'd be back, and she said "It's never a bad idea. We're finding sometimes a re-scan doesn't always work then it's a hassle for everyone." I decided to err on the side of caution.
Perhaps I have very advanced coordination skills and am able to quickly produce our passes when needed.
On most occasions we know ahead of time we will be entering the park and the walk to the gate gives one ample time to produce their passes, even if they lack my advanced coordination between mind and body...
They've been allowing re-entry with passes since the 2014 season.
Handstamps are there for the people that do not have passes, regular printed tickets.
It's probably best guest relations to have most people getting stamped or showing stamps, so as guest with regular tickets know to get stamped.
They're most likely to not know about hand stamps.

I find that smearing ink on my hand kind of violates my personal space. I've never liked it.
