Mostly I was just annoyed that they liberally soaked the stamp and left a big yellow blob of ink on your hand, right after touching a bunch of other people's sweaty ass hands.
Would those be the same sweaty ass hands that touched the handrails and lapbars just before you touched them?
Maybe "pain" wasn't the best choice of words. How about unnecessarily inconvenient?
The past few years, many of my trips to Cedar Point have consisted of taking my son and his friends to the park, riding a few rides, heading back home or to work and returning to the park several hours later to ride a couple more rides before close and take him and friends home. Sometimes I took a shower or went swimming in the interim. Did the stamp was off or is it still there? Rather not have to worry about it.
And I know none of the pros here would do this: one at least one occasion, I walked out of the park and forgot to get a stamp. Was busy reading/responding to an email on my phone or talking to someone on it and just forgot. And there were a couple of times when I was walking out of the park in the morning when work was expected to make it difficult for me to get back to the park by closing time so I didn't get a stamp only to have work schedule change later in the day. At that point, I can either buy an admission ticket when I get there or sit in the parking lot for an hour or more.
At work, do I want to sit with a visible stamp on my arm in a meeting with a client or my managing partner's office? Not if I can avoid it.
And requiring stamps wasn't necessary. Pass holder's pictures pop up on the screen when passes are scanned so there is no risk someone is trying to get 10 of their friends in without paying by using one pass multiple times.
I would think the park would prefer rescanning passes. They can gather info about people who leave and return to the park later in the day. Maybe they just went out to their car to get something/drop something off. Maybe they went to Soak City in the heat of the day and returned to the park for the evening. Maybe they are leaving to eat outside the park and returning. Some inferences would need to be made in certain instances but its better than having no data at all.
And if you prefer the stamp, you can still get one.
I hope this is true, as I don't like hand stamps either. They use too much ink and the last time i got one, the ink got all over the inside cuff of my jacket that I was wearing, and it looked like i was bleeding. And that ink is hard to wash off as well. I know ONE time last year, I thought it would be ok to rescan my pass to re-enter the park, man! It was a whole big ordeal for the ticket lady. She had to call over her manager to do something on the screen and I kind of got scolded over this...so please, make sure this is true.
I stopped in guest relations yesterday because of an ongoing problem with my all season dining plan. While there I asked about multi-scan and the CP employee said that pass holders should continue to get hand stamps.
^^^ Yeah, that's what I thought. It seems like the staff at CP is never on the same page. I guess I'll keep getting the hand stamp ink blobs.
I know the stamps won't come off unless you use soap or rub lotion on your hands, but I'm always paranoid that the stamps will wash off and I won't be let back in. That's pretty much the only reason why I'd prefer just using my pass over and over.
I like the new pass-based reentrance policy, but I guess I'll just get stamps anyway until CP's staff becomes more comfortable with the new system.
All of the gate employees know about multiple scans each day. I entered the park at the marina gate and exited at Windseeker, asking again if the pass can be scanned more than once for reentry. She said yes. Entered the park at Windseeker and my pass scanned without a problem. I've stopped using the hand stamps since the change in policy is real and it works.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
That's nice to know but now they've screwed up the parking situation. (Like that could be possible after last seasons' fiasco) Now you can only use your platinum pass once per day!

As long as there is already a discussion going; does anyone know why they decided to switch from invisible wrist stamps to visible hand stamps?
I was wondering why they switched from putting the stamp on the inside of the wrist to the back of the hand. Inside of the wrist always made more sense to me especially since the back of the hand has interference from he camcorder wrist strap...

With the invisible stamp if it was washing off you wouldn't really know, would you? At least with the color if your stamp is fading you will see that you have a potential problem happening so you can do something about it.

I'll bite - what are the other reasons?
As Jeff mentioned, with these new stamps, they apply way more ink than is necessary. And because there's so much, it takes a bit to dry, and can transfer to clothing. That may have also happened the "invisible" ink, but because it was almost impossible to see, it wasn't a problem.
As for why they switched ink, I think the answer is clear - it speeds up the re-entry process, and negates the need for light wands at every entry point.

Yeah, as I stated earlier, the new ink is messier. I'll just bypass the re-entry stamp and use my pass to come back in...we'll see how that works.
They just told me at Magnum exit that I can NOT rescan my pass and I needed a handstamp.

The gate people (outside of the older ladies who run the beach gate) have some serious issues. We went out the marina gate last Friday to check-in for the Luminosity kick-off party and get lanyards, and the stamper told us, no worries, we were getting the lanyards anyway. Then on the way in, her partner at the gate told us we should have gotten stamps anyway. That seemed illogical considering we had the lanyards for the party.
My point is that I don't think the people working the gates have any idea what they can or can't do.

Apparently it is still hit or miss sometimes. My pass works with multi-scan, my dock neighbor's pass doesn't and he had issues with his meal plan not scanning also. The person at the Marina gate who first told me about mult-scan being enabled said there are some IT issues that they are still working through. The best way to check is to get a stamp but on the way back in give them your pass to see if it works.

Fortunately I had no issue using my pass multiple times on Friday. However I did have a hand stamp guy insist that it wouldn't work, until I showed him it did.
