LmFao! What the h*ll are you talking about? It´s about respecting what is your biggest interest. If you love George Lucas and Star Wars, have a website about it, and spend a lot of time in this universe - maybe even had the pleasure of doing an interview with Mr. Lucas - How foolish would you look, linking to torrents of a leaked version of his next movie, just weeks before it premieres? Idi*t.

The point is, we have spent a lot of time on these boards....... We come here to discuss our theories about it........we want to figure out...... If we didn't............we are equally as responsible for this leaking. We are a society of wanting to be the first...........

Thanks for the teen-respect bit at the bottom Jeff. And thanks for sharing a sane side of the story. I'm only 18 years old, and yet my blood pressure was like a fat white guy eating KFC while I read BlcknGldHawk's rant (no offense to fat white guys). I'm too young to have high blood pressure from unreasonable people such as BlcknGldHawk. People like him, who make their very first post in such a manner, definately need to come to terms with whats so important that they have to come to this site. This is for lovers, not haters, and some appreciation would be nice from everyone for all the time Walt and Jeff have put in over the years.

^ Amen to that! I appreciate everything that Walt, Jeff and others do to keep us up to date with what's going on in the amusement industry, and especially Cedar Point!
They've put a lot of effort into both PointBuzz and CoasterBuzz, and earning respect from the parks. So they should be priveleged to get information before we do. They've earned it.
Ive been a member since 99. Ive got 60 some odd post. Now I remember why I stay out of this crap.. It's like trying to arguing with my * mother. I'll never win..

As you mentioned, you've been around a long time. I feel bad that you had to come out of lurking and lower yourself to our level of discussion (a.k.a crap), but I don't think your arguments are getting any better.
You stated your opinion and several people replied on why they thought you were wrong. Your best come back was that everyone is a brown nose. I'm not sure how this is about winning or losing, but maybe that's why you never win?

Getting back to the Motor Trend spy photos. As a avid reader of Motor Trend and living in the Detroit area, spy photo's are taken often from proving ground sites as they are driving with the camo on. As I have seen on "MotorTrendTV" the magazine actully has guys that climb the walls like at the Ford proving grounds near GreenField Village to take photos. This must be a perfectly legal practice considering they have no tiff's about publishing them for years. This is one of the first pages I turn to when I get the magazine. Now, do I think screamscape has the best ethics to spill the beans on something that they are trusted with...no. Do I dislike Screamscape??? no are they wrong for what they did??? of course, but if they did the own research that was not handes to them in trust then kudos to them.
Take you up really really high and then drop you at speeds that are really really fast.
As much as a lot of this seems moot, just looking at Tmsnakes' gripe from six years ago reminds me how much we will laugh about this stuff six years down the road. God bless hindsight, and both the ability and inability of people to use it!
And a healthy !Oh Snap! in favor of Walt's response.

I believe screamscape had access to the information and knew that that information was private until Sept 7th. Advertised himself as a popular website. Who's fault is it? I guess the parks for trusting him.
Jeff has said he's known for a while, and I only would guess Walt knew also. But they kept quiet, monitored the site, and let us do our thing!
People do look on the internet for information nobody has, I understand that. But when you quote a Cedar Point source, only someone pretty high up would know anything, you know the rules!
I think Cedar Point handled the PR on this thing pretty well. Everybody knew something was going to replace WWL, and then the famed leak of Maverick copyright. I truly believe that info hit the internet because they wanted it to. I don't remember hearing about any other ride names 4 months before the announcement. It started extra major hype.

As much as it has pissed off some people here, the BlknGldHwk post had a valid point as in regarding that one can ruin it for all. But what I don't understand is if Jeff & Walt are held in such high regards (being the mods & such), why do they/you belittle anyone they/you choose to on here. I understand that people in general can be irritating & can ask stupid questions from time to time. But I'm a little intimidated to say anything that in any way shape or form could be taken apart & shoved down my throat. I may not be the smartest brightest person regarding the amusement park industry, but I, for one, would like to be able to voice my opinion or ask a question about something without being told that I'm wrong & or chastized for it. I thouroughly enjoy this site & it was a GREAT help with my family trip this summer to Cedar Point. I totally understand that it takes alot of time & effort to have this website, plus others. I understand that you guys are good at what you do & I totally appreciate it. But sometimes you gotta give a newbie a break. I'm not refering as much to the BlknGldHwk post, but many that had involved Maverick speculation & such. I really don't intend to piss anyone off with this, just a little surprised that this goes on.
CP had no control over the Maverick name being "leaked". It was put up on the US Patent Office website as registered to Cedar Fair. Someone with too much time on their hands found it and started pointing it out to everyone.
Everything thats patented/copyrighted can be found there, so its out of their control. And not part of the Perpetual Hype Engine that is CPPlace.

I am not sure I see the movie analogy. Knowing the ending before you go pretty much ruins the experience of the movie. It cuts to the heart of the matter itself. Isn't the point of Maverick actually riding it? And no one can do that before it opens. How does a leaked announcement change that? Is knowing the specs of the new ride that important? It is nice to know. I am looking forward to riding it but I was looking forward to riding it when I first heard about it months ago. Any official announcement does not change that. Had a member of this site posted a mock up of Maverick that was pretty much spot on (and I have to say that I was impressed with all of the time and energy that many people put into mock ups of the ride) based on educated guesses from the building done to date and maybe some inside information that they heard second or third hand from people in the know, would you still have felt cheated? And to the extent you feel cheated by what screamscape or anyone else may have leaked, what exactly do you feel you were cheated out of?
Why couldn't Cedar Fair have simply registered the trademark with a different owner? Then no one would have been able to trace it to Cedar Point and the new ride.
If I had to guess, I would say that Cedar Point wanted that information out. The parks benefit from the excitement and "buzz" (pardon the pun) created by new rides and the speculation it creates. They like to see people talk about new rides and therefore the park itself. Its free advertising for them. It makes people want to go to the park to ride the new ride. This site is free advertising for them too. One risk the parks run though is if the speculation gets too far from reality, people may be disappointed with the actual ride itself which may be bad for business.
Have you been reading?
Its not that screamscape spoiled anything for Maverick but that parks are already a little wary of giving access to 3rd-party webpages. Jeff and Walt have worked hard to get the kind of access they do (off-season tours, Boo-Buzz, interviews) so that they can provide us with great events and coverage. It can take just one screamscape to ruin all of that. If parks think they can't trust outside websites, they could cut them off. And that would mean no more behind-the-scenes updates. No more off-season details. No more events for coaster-buzz.
Thats why people aren't too happy with screamscape. He violated the trust.
^ - you're assuming CP had something to hide. They did not. They registered a name, nothing more. They didn't leak anything. They didn't hype anything. They didn't motivate discussion. They reserved a name so that they could use it for their new ride. And they did it early enough so as to make sure no one else could take it.

If that's your fear, you're best off never posting anything on the Internet. I'd like to think that in most cases on this site, if you make an informed opinion, do a common sense check, and can back up or rationalize your opinion, then the worst that can happen is people will disagree with you.
As we've seen many times before, common sense isn't as common as you'd think.

I'd believe that (patent) thing if it was a common thing, but this was a first for me to read about it involving a ride anywhere. I find it hard to believe someone spent time looking through all that stuff. But, OK, I believe you since you told me so.
I don't feel cheated on anything, I just don't like when someone claims to be media, then uses it against the nice people who trusted them with the info. It's just the nature of this spoiled world we live in.
