Sandusky police investigating accident at Cedar Point near Raptor

After hearing about this, I feel really bad for this persons family who had this nightmare happen on their vacation. It's terrible and unfortunate. I feel even worse for the poor people who were on this train and will relive the nightmare of watching their leg or the train hit this guy. It may scar them the rest of their lives. With that being said and with the assumption this guy jumped the fence breaking the rules, I don't feel real bad for the guy. I can't sympathize with utter stupidity. I was stupid once and lost my phone and camera on Dragon Challenge in Orlando years ago, but I'm not a moron and know not to jump a restricted fence with a 60 mph coaster whizzing by. I waited till the park closed and they got it for me. Logical thinking. Use your brain...

This is such a sad tragedy. My prayers go out to the employees, the guests, and the families of the victim.

We repeat this mantra in our workplace "Safety is not everyone's responsibility, it's YOUR responsibility".

Amen...

I echo other posters in the sense that I have sympathy for pretty much everyone but the person who actually jumped the fence. The employees, the guests in line, the guests on the train, the man's family...

But again, I just can't ignore the stupidity of ignoring the restricted area signs and going in. Especially since it doesn't take a genius to see how fast the train is going through that section of ride. I hope the riders barely saw anything, but I'm almost willing to bet there's at least one rider with broken legs since I can't imagine any other point of impact.

Just a terrible situation all around and not looking forward to the media response, even as cut and dry as it may seem to be.

Way to disrupt a day for people at CP. DUHH

This is so tragic! A moment of bad judgement ends a life. And anyone that has unkind things to say needs to remember times in their own life they made stupid choices that COULD have ended badly, but luckily for them did not. So sorry for the family & other guests.

A completely avoidable accident at best.
On a completely selfish note, how long does an investigation like this close down the ride?

My guess, because a fatality was involved, the ride will be have to inspected by the state. I expect the ride to remain closed tomorrow.

I'm sorry, but to everyone making jokes about this tragedy...Shame on you. A man lost his life here and regardless of his recklessness, we should show him some respect.

Humor is how some people deal with tragedy and loss. It is a valid coping mechanism, someone shouldn't be shamed because they cope with tragedy in a different way.

We agree to disagree liebevision, but that's okay. If we all shared the same feelings, there would be no Jerry Springer or Maury Povich!

What an awful tragedy! Thoughts and prayers for the family. I don't know why people think they can do these things. Reminds me of another tragedy where a guy didn't shut down production on a line and decided to climb the high fence to take care of something quick and a piece of his clothes got stuck and he couldn't leave. There were all kinds of safety locks to avoid that sort of thing. Nothing is worth your life and leaving a family devastated but hindsight is 20/20 and I'm just so sorry for everyone involved.

No Jerry Springer or Maury Povich would be a great thing, 2 DUHH's

I'll reserve my respect for those who don't blatantly ignore common sense, posted restrictions & physical barriers.

The more people that give a pass to this level of idiocy the more other people think they can get away with trying it.

Why do I feel like your reaction would be way different if this was a family member or friend of yours? For you to bash someone who just lost their life in a terrible accident is very disrespectful.

No one is giving a pass, they are you know, being human beings and showing remorse for someone who passed away today.

Shame on you.

It will probably remain closed until the investigation determines the root cause to not be a mechanical defect in the ride. The State of Ohio has the final say when the ride can be reopened.

A similar incident happed at SFOG. A teen climbed two fences to retrieve his hat. He was struck and decapitated by Batman the Ride.

OSHA doesnt have anything to do with the investigation. It wasn't an employee that died.

Sad for the family but didn't he read the sign!! Restricted area!! Plus didn't he learn anything from Jurassic Park? Never mess with a Raptor!! Wins everytime!!

Question:

May sound like a dumb question, but did they close the park, or at least the Raptor area? I don't think anyone would of liked to see them hauling a body out of this area of the park, nor any possible blood stains or splatters on the coaster itself. (sorry for the visual, just wondering)

Prayers to any family that may of been with the person, and to those that had to witness such a tragic thing. Hope this incident reminds people not to go against park rules. They are there for a reason.

My understanding is that, while they did not close the whole park, they did take down the webcam page recently and they did shut down Blue Streak as well. They may have blocked off that entire plaza back near Blue Streak as well; this would give the emergency responders room to work as well as to carry out the body of the deceased with dignity.
