Sandusky police investigating accident at Cedar Point near Raptor

Saying he jumped the fence to get a lost item would be just as speculatory as saying he did it to commit suicide.

I certainly feel sympathy for the family, I can't imagine having a day at the park end like this. I also can't imagine jumping into a restricted area for an item I may have lost. Hard to think what was going on in his head to make that decision, regardless of the reason. As unimportant as the publicity for the park is compared to this man's life, it's tragic that the park has to go through this in the middle of a pretty successful season.

They will probably push back the announcement given the circumstances and the theme of Valravn. Raven of the slain.

Doubtful.

Fence jumpers are not uncommon at Cedar Point, and there is very little you can do about. If people are bound and determined to jump a fence, they will do it. Warning signs do almost nothing to protect people who won't protect themselves.

I think it's extremely cocky of people to think rules don't apply to them. If you lost something that valuable, that you are willing to risk your life for it, then you shouldn't have had it on the ride in the first place.

If they had just left the nice, family friendly Mill Race in place this never would have happened ... Just sayin'

"Forgiveness is almost always easier to obtain than permission."

My son recently went to CP for the first time without us and I had a nice chat with him about following the rules. The incident at six flags where a teen apparently hopped a fence to retrieve his hat was stuck in my mind. I am sure that kid thought hey, my hats right there im just going to grab it quick... Nothing will happen to me, but unfortunately something bad did happen when he jumped that fence.

I am convinced that amusement parks are some of the safest places around, so long as you follow the rules. I have made sure my son knows this, coasters are fun enough following the rules, there's no need to show off and make a stupid decision. You can't hop a fence into a restricted area... There's nothing one could drop off a ride that is worth that risk.

I have no idea what the particulars are in today's sutuation, but I do know for a fact that if someone was in a restricted area, there is only one person to blame for the result of that action.

How awful! It certainly is reminiscent of the incident at Six Flags a few years ago when someone hopped a fence and was struck by Batman.

I, too, am surprised no one on the train was injured.

Thrills Around the Corner!

I'm sorry, but to everyone making jokes about this tragedy...Shame on you. A man lost his life here and regardless of his recklessness, we should show him some respect.

Investigation would more than likely have to take place before I can make any assumption on one's lack of common sense. For all we know, a gate could have been left open from a morning low zone walk by an associate. We don't know. I highly doubt that is the case, but who knows.

I can't even picture where he may have jumped the fence, doesn't some of that area have the wooden fence from where the turnpike cars was? Does anyone have pics of the fencing?

Crazy and sad day for CP

I'll reserve my respect for those who don't blatantly ignore common sense, posted restrictions & physical barriers.

The more people that give a pass to this level of idiocy the more other people think they can get away with trying it.

Girl: "l want to ride that yellow one again... Twisted Wicker"
Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

If he would have waited to (possibly) grab what he wanted AFTER he jumped the fence (i.e. standing with his back pressed on the fence then after the the train passes, after that, he grabs the item, then he presses his back against the fence, waits for the train to go by, then jump the fence again), then the incident probably wouldn't have happened. But although I'm very mad that this guy for ignoring the obvious warning signs, I do feel bad and will be praying for the family

This is very unfortunate. I hate seeing something like this happen at a great park known for putting safety first. Prayers to the family.

You're right, Brian. Cedar Point very much stresses safety. It's unfortunate that we as humans have the "it can't happen to us mentality".

The low zone he was in was one near the helix. He was struck at the low point right before the final inversion.

I can't imagine the terror of the people in the front seat seeing someone standing there, unable to do anything as the train speeds on and strikes the man.

Ok point taken. However it floors me every time I go to cedar point the stupidity of people there that just can't listen or follow the rules. Like don't use your cell phone on rides. Like I said bet you he was doing this. I've seen it time and time again and it's a matter of time someone gets smacked in the head with a phone a killed because people can't follow simple rules.

If they catch people not following the rules make it harsh, kick them out of the park period. Simple. Walk them out and say don't come back. This guy is lucky he didn't kill someone else on the ride. What if he did? Would anyone feel bad for him then?

Why be stupid and ruin a great day and the best damn park in the world.

Now watch the media will blow this way way out of proportion because of someone stupidity.

Yes I feel for his family, of course. I have a heart. Was running on emotions at first. Still doesn't fix stupid.

As the comedian Ron White once said " you can't fix stupid"

^^ Yeah, that had to be terrifying to see someone in front of you on the ride, unable to do anything. That could possibly cause leg or foot injuries to the riders. This had to be traumatizing to those that witnessed this and were on the ride at the time.

I can't believe nobody passing by was able to stop him. If I saw someone trying to climb a restricted area fence, I'd sure as hell pull him right down if I could.

The most dangerous enemy is the one you don't know you have.

I also feel really bad for the ride hosts. It won't be easy for them to return to work and have fun with this on their hearts.

So, do me a favor, future Raptor riders, don't ask the ride hosts about this tragedy. There's a good chance they don't want to talk about and are sick of people asking about it. There's a better chance they aren't allowed to talk about it.

Instead, especially if you ride in the next few weeks, just smile at the ride hosts, and wish them a great day! That will mean more to them, than someone inquiring about this tragedy.
