Well I heard it first hand this morning on the radio "rider dies after riding Raptor at Cedar Point"

Media reports have been overwhelmingly straightforward and accurate. I've read countless comments on many articles and on social media. Trust me, there is no confusion as to what happened and why.

I think we can all agree that he should have read the signs and not hopped the fence(s)...

It makes me sick that this comment has twelve +1s:

Sorry don't feel bad. Fences and signs are there for a reason. Don't be a jack ass. Follow the rules. Now you make the best park in the world look bad because of one dumb idiot. ...one schmuck who probably had his phone out and dropped it and tried to get it back.

Here we go again... The snarky, egotistical comments continue; even at the death of a person. Nobody deserves this to happen to them. Even if it's their own fault.

I work around dangerous equipment every day, signs that say "danger don't open" my brain tells me "don't open" and I listen to my brain. Pretty simple concept. Sorry hard to feel sorry for people that just don't follow SIMPLE rules. He trespassed, went where he was not supposed to, yes sad he passed on, however his fault no one else's, why feel sorry for his stupidity. Feel sorry for his family, friends, school kids, CP workers and riders who will all have this on their minds the rest of their lives. He went where he wasn't supposed to, too a risk and lost. He lost his life over a phone....hurt his family....was it worth it? NO, flat out STUPID. don't feel sorry for him, just everyone else involved as mentioned before.

Media needs to take a page from you guys, you report the facts and don't exaggerate. I've heard some ereneous reports. Hence why I like your web site so much more, you get the facts and not some "the sky is falling" reports.

I think you've made your position known. Everyone knows he was in the wrong and we also know that this was preventable. The repeated posthumous name calling (idiot, stupid, jackass, etc.) is getting old.

Looks like the story is now on the front page of CNN... Regardless of whose fault it was, I hate seeing this kind of black cloud hang over the park!

Point taken.....just hate the fact that the best park on the planet is getting negative press right now. Just wish people would just follow the rules. I see people breaking them more often than not when I'm there and it just irks me to no end....knew something like this would eventually happen.

Interesting article, linked to this incident but maybe a leak of some sort?

Interesting.

They probably don't want to brand a "people eating bird" aka Valravn when a person was literally just killed on their bird themed Raptor... Maybe they're rethinking the name last minute like they did with Mantis

Does no one agree with this? Thought this could be a good reason for the announcement postponement, other than giving the current situation a bit of a break.

Given that 99.9278% of coaster enthusiasts were unfamiliar with "Valravn", I'm going to assume that the vast, vast majority of non-coaster enthusiasts are also unfamiliar with the definition of "Valravn...."

There's already a good reason for postponing the announcement: if you haven't heard, someone recently died at the park. That alone is reason enough to delay am announcement.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

"valravn is described as originating from ravens who consume the bodies of the dead on the battlefield, as capable of turning into the form of a knight after consuming the heart of a child, and, alternately, as half-wolf and half-raven creatures."

Maybe with the name of the ride being a creature that consumes the bodies of dead CF thought it inappropriate to announce the coaster at this time.

There's also the possibility that they could be reconsidering the name all together.

Or, given that the vast, vast majority of breathing humans in the park's major marketing area have no idea of what Valravn means, and, given that someone recently died at the park, a small delay of the announcement is just a small delay of the announcement.....?

The problem with the name is how easy it is for everyone to Google the meaning. Considering someone was just killed, I believe the media will love pointing out the irony to the general public and that it's a tad morbid.
I wouldn't be surprised if they change the name. That could be a reason for the delay in the announcement.

I don't know that a name change is in order but since it would be so easy for anyone to google it (even God forbid a reporter who actually researches something before they report) and once the meaning became known I'm sure the fact that the death occurred less than a week before would have the park being branded as insensitive. I think if they announce it after HalloWeekends start it will fit in with the genral creepiness of the park at that point and won't be an issue.

I do think most enthusiasts (thank you spell checker!) would Google the name, but not many in the general public. Either way the delay is most appropriate for many reasons.

And a question: do you think that the fact the gentleman was 6'5 was a factor? Or is that an insensitive Q?

I think the main factor is that the gentleman climbed 2 barrier fences and ignored warning signs posted on the inner fence.

^ Would writing, "well duh", be an insensitive comment? ;)

I can't figure out the quote thing. Any help guys? Everything is so different from like 8 years ago!

Im surprised the media hasnt already google searched for the definition and made that a story.
