FWIW, I think I'd greatly enjoy a stay at Breakers over the winter months. The atmosphere up there during that time is pretty cool. So, if Sandcastle or whatever its replacement was called happened to be open when the park wasn't, I'd give it a go.

This is my point, the area changes a lot with the seasons for obvious reasons. I think being able to capture some of the destination wedding/event market could be beneficial. Whether the market is there for the area I don't know but I am sure that Mr. Ouiment, coming from both Disney Resorts and Starwood, would have a pretty good idea.
Also, the event space would be used during the summer months as well. I would think having some early season events would be quite doable, so it wouldn't be snow covered. And with global warming who knows how much longer that will last.
Sorry, I just can't imagine that, during winter months, with snow on the ground, there would be sufficient weddings interested in a hotel's generic event room for their wedding.
To be blunt, a Cedar Point hotel in February is not a destination wedding. If the couples in question want to have a Cedar Point wedding, they'd have it when the park is open.
Conventions are generally scheduled in places that offer a variety of food and entertainment options; a remote hotel, in winter, located in a city that thrives on summer tourism, seems unlikely to attract many conventions, no matter how many amenities it may offer.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
It doesn't have to be just those cold winter months though. There are plenty of days during the months of November, December, March, and April when the weather can be beautiful. And after having my wedding at the beginning of August, many moons ago, I wish I had chosen one of those months instead; crazy hot to spend most of the day in a Tux.
Also, Cedar Point is trying to become more and more of an actual resort, so a building that is more than just a hotel would be a plus for those guests that are on point for 3,5,7 days etc.
i for one LOVE the idea of turning into a lodge/ floridian stlye resort. the location is just too prime. and personally i think Breakwater Cafe is awesome looking, i just wish they would utilize it more. i decided to check out Sandcastle suites because of this forum. i made a video, you guys should check it out. because i stay at the Marina i plan on making alot more youtube videos for those who arent there as often :)
heres the video i made in Sandcastle Suites the other day:
admittedly it is a bit of clickbait, but hey i mean it was closed, i wasnt allowed in there and i did get talked to by a housekeeper before i left so kinda lol but for the most part i agree, just wanted to see what it was like. we pass it on the boat everytime were going to kellys, i wanted to see if it was as bad as i heard
So what then is even the point of this "unauthorized documentary"?

I think the "point" was the show the potential of Sandcastle Suites. Which I would have to agree with. It is a prime location that is very often overlooked. It's like a hidden secret. I too wish Breakwarer cafe got more attention as well.
Yes. Precisely. And Rusty, I stay in the marina all summer so I'm able to make videos of things that other people sometimes are unable to see, so I like to allow people to experience them. I'm not doing it self-righteously or even for ad revenue. Just like to document things in case they become lost, in most cases they are underappreciated as is. For example, I have a video of the Grand Ballroom (which is one of my favorite places in the entire park-and barely anyone knows about it), the first cedar point road, sandcastle suites, etc. Right now I'm working on one about the old 1960s paddlewheel boat, as I found it in storage. I'm sorry if me shooting them without the consent of cedar fair offends you. I wasn't aware there was a problem with it. I actually received Brian Edwards number and planned on interviewing him in the near future.
But the idea of embedding the video wasn't to pay as much attention to the title but rather the content

No. Not offended in the least. I just wasn't able to figure out what the video (or more precisely what angle) it was trying to depict. As you surmised, I got hung up by the video title.

no way! it was the winebago, the oldest one (i believe) you dock at the marina dont you? im over on pier 5, we pulled out yesterday and the winebago is in the same storage building as we are up there
Yep I used to drive Ogontz, Great Lakes and Winnebago. I would love to see it again! Yes we do dock there on pier 13. We are probably coming out of the water Sunday ourselves. Wish we could stretch it to one more weekend.

oh good haha yeah, i got very interested in this forum, as i love to walk along that path that leads to the very tip where sandcastle is located and i always marvel at the property, i always assumed sandcastle must be nice, but after hearing recent reviews i wanted to see for myself...turns out it is quite outdated. it was built in the 90's but looks like the 60's inside.

man that is awesome! im making a full video but heres a sneak peak for you, im very interested in Cedar points history so i love things like this:
That's awesome thanks for posting that. It sure brings back memories for me. I'm assuming Winnie was the boat that was purchased by an individual and used to run the brief ferry route back and forth from Castaway Bay or something like that. It has certainly been refurbished from when I last saw her in the summer of '96.

I call poppycock on the Lemo-, err, Breakwater Cafe manager's claim.
Looks like the Breakwater manager was right on the money!
