Roller Coaster Ride Operator's

Does every roller coaster ride operator team do a morning test run with an employee only on the ride before the public rides the rides for the day?

Thanks

Every coaster has to have an employee test ride as part of the morning safety check before the ride can open to the public.

there's actually not as much bickering about who rides as you'd think. pretty much, if you want to ride, you'll get to, because believe me, you're probably not going to want to test ride every morning.

at my first ride, sometimes we wouldn't even be able to find someone who wanted to test ride and we would have to draw straws to see who HAD to test ride...

I always liked test rides. Guess I am strange. :)

Same with me, this will be my first season working at Cedar Point and I cant wait to help test run in the morning.

Me too. I think that will be my favorite part of the job. But I could see how it could get old after a while.

On Millennium Force, and I'm assuming on every other coaster, each train is cycled empty, and when the first one gets back, we put one employee in the front row of each train until all 3 have been cycled through. Then if there's time, we would keep going. But the ride will not open until a test rider was put into each train.

Not every coaster when i ran woodstock express we did not do test riding in the morning.

If you work Dragster get there early if you want to ride because six trains go fast.

Actually at Disaster Transport we had everyone test ride. I guess that's because with 5 shuttles and 5 crew that's what you get. That or 1 person would ride twice.

At Raptor we had a "first come, first serve" policy. Be one of the first three to put your name tag up and you got the ride. I think there were always more than 3 who wanted to ride every day, so it was fair.

Except for that time Joe stole my place and I didn't get a ride. :(

Yeah, I remember being forced to ride Demon Drop, 3 times (6 cars, 2 available test riders). All I can say is that my back hated me at the end of the day if I had to test ride (if I was on platform for opening).

I loved test riding on Raptor, especially when Phil sent the trains out really fast so you got stopped in the block brakes! That was the best. Then there was the "Option 1" button (is that what it was called) that sped up the lift. Well, maybe the best was when I worked on Millennium before the park had opened for the season and I got to test ride like 7 or 8 times within the hour.

You beat me to it Colin. Basically if you wanted to test ride that morning, you would put your nametag on the control booth. But in order to get it up there, you'd generally have to show up early. No smart remarks from anyone here.... :P

Yup yup! Basically everyone that had to transfer on got a spot to test ride on Dragster, but not everyone wanted to mess up their hair, me included sometimes. I still got 40 rides out of it! weeee

We all got to ride pretty much on a equal basis...that is, except for me...I never got to ride. This was not by choice; I tried several times, even at the end of the summer.

Maybe this year.
