Roller Coaster History Timeline Added to Construction Fence

From what I understand, the dorms are coming down for the 2016 season anyway and Perimeter Rd. moved closer to the Marina for future park development. In an interview, Ouimet said that he doesn't like the dorms on the peninsula. Plus, those buildings are kind of old and an eyesore to anyone looking that way.

I was just thinking over the stats published in the paper, 223 feet tall, maximum of 80mph, etc... and looked at the stats for Sheikra (200 feet and 70mph) and Griffon (205 feet and 71mph). If my physics is correct, for Valravn to travel at 80mph, it will need a drop around 250 feet, which would mean we're getting a tunnel for sure, or it will need some kind of launch element, which is unlikely, and defeats the purpose of a dive coaster's 'pause' element. Anyways, either the leaked stats were incorrect or we're in for some kind 'surprise'.

I saw a video of Coaster-Net Uncut on the YouTubes recently and they also concur that the stats and numbers do not add up. The claim that Skeikra cost nearly $14-16 million to build and is smaller than the supposedly $15 million Valravn Dive Coaster.

Cedar Fair spends an average of $150 million throughout their parks for each off season's new attraction(s), and if all the numbers are correct, there will be $20-30 million missing from next year's budget. Whether this means a price is wrong or if something else is planned remains a mystery, but I feel something isn't quite right about this.

So where are the replacement dorms?

I will be impressed if they squeeze a 223 foot four inversion dive machine in the cleared land without tearing down the dorms.

I can easily see them fitting the coaster there and stretching the midway but definitely nothing more than that unless they tear down the dorms. Queue lines take up a lot of space as well.

You need to remember that if they build a $25 million dollar roller coaster all of that money doesn't go to the manufacturer. If Valravn is coming, perhaps $15 million goes to B&M, but that doesn't take into account building the station, contractors, builders, electricians, etc. Those are all separate expenses. If a coaster is $25 million- that includes all costs associated with it--- the actual company (i.e. B&M) receives far less than the actual price tag that the park announces. The leaked documents from January probably is the amount to be paid to B&M, but not the total cost of the project.

Funny you should ask. When I was in the area back in April...If you go to CP thru the main entrance (by Quaker Steak), there were some new structures being built a few months ago (on the left side) between Thirsty Pony and Breakers Express. They were down the street from some of the current off site employee dorms. I will check on this again in August as I usually enter CP on the Chaussee.

I believe that is a Quality Inn or some other hotel being built right there.

Ouimet said he didn't like that the dorms were on the peninsula, so they would either have to be somewhere along the Causeway or on the mainland.

There's a Holiday Inn Express being built at the corner of US-6 and Cedar Point Dr. on the same property as the existing hotel. A wing of that one is to be demolished to make room.

Fine. But if Cedars are, in fact, to be gone for 2016 where is the evidence of new dorms being built anywhere? They have less than 1 year to get them open to replace Cedars

They did a good job getting the newer dorms ready for this season. And they had started those just before the fall of last year. I think they could get it done pretty quickly. Though the question would still remain as to just where it would be if they are indeed taking Cedars down.

Were there not sites marked off on a map for future development when the park sought approval for 2014's new dormitories? I do believe so. There is definitely room along Cedar Point Dr. for another building.

Is there room for a building that will house close to 700 employees?

Take a look at the map yourself. Heck, look up Erie County's land database to see which parcels Cedar Fair/Cedar Point/any affiliated companies already own.

^I just did, and I discovered that they bought a house on the right hand side of Cedar Point Drive, right across from McDonald's. I believe Cedar Fair already owns most of the rest of that area, and maybe buying the house was the last piece of the puzzle for them.

Incline Loop! Yay do I get a prize?

The funny thing about the incline loop is that B&M only ever built 3 rides that had them: Mantis in '96, Chang in '97, and Riddler's Revenge in '98. In 1999, Medusa opened as the first floorless coaster with 7 inversions, but no inclined loops.

You could argue that Rougarou is actually the "oldest" floorless. It's interesting to speculate that if B&M had the floorless coaster design ready in 1995, if Cedar Point would have built one instead of a stand up coaster.

I really hope they announce Valravn soon. I'm expecting it to be this week or next week depending on when the rumored track arrives. I'm expecting it to be like Fury 325 where the tracks arriving on the same day/night before.

I wouldn't expect it this week at all. Jason said the announcement will be in August. They have all of August to announce it.

I'm just going to have a wild guess here, but I'm pretty sure that the announcement will be this Saturday, August 1st. If the announcement is already known to be in August, then it will be very early in the month for several reasons. 1st, it is time for the next coaster on the coaster wall. 2nd, the B&M factory will not want to keep finished track at their factory for long after it is complete, so it will be shipped out soon. And 3rd, construction needs to begin because footers need to be poured before it gets too late into the season so that by the time spring rolls around next year not much work will need to be done if they would be building say a midway from where Dodgems used to be to Blue Streak.

GateKeeper was officially announced on August 13, 2012, so I expect any announcement for 2016 to take place around that time this year. As I don't think the project will be quite as big as GateKeeper, I predict it will happen sometime during the third full week of August.
