Ride relocations- Demon Drop?

I like the parking garage idea. If you put it near the main entrance somewhere, a lot more people could have "close" parking spots. But if you going to make the garage, don't hold back. Make it quite large. Wouldn't want to have to make another one 10 years from now.

You guys are probably right about adding the coaster to frontier town. It might be difficult to puit a modern steely in there without disrupting the ambiance of the area.

That topics already been discussed and discarded. Cedar Point will not remove a ride to replace it for two reasons: 1 they wouldn't gain any ground on the "More coasters than anywhere else" 2: CCMR is a good family coaster, its not super tall or super fast, but it makes a great beginner coaster, especially for little kids wanting to make the jump from WE or JG to the "Big Kid" coasters.

Why must Cedar Point absolutely have "More coasters than anywhere else"? Seriously, people care about quality, not quanity. Instead of leveling the remaining shade trees in the park, it would make more sense to remove some of the less interesting coasters to make room for newer, better ones.

I do agree that they should leave CCMR alone for the reason you gave as well the fact that it matches the ambiance of the area. My canidates for removal would include Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Disaster Transport, and Wildcat.

What if you added a good size GCI coaster in that area, not too small, not too high but maybe higher than CCMR about 100 feet tall. I think that would be cool.

I would love this, but I seriously doubt that it would happen anytime soon. I just don't believe that Cedar Point bigwigs would want a smaller wooden coaster than the one they already have. Everything has to be bigger, longer, or faster with these guys (except the family or kiddie coasters).

I know, CP probably wouldn't do it and everybody here would disagree, but if they were to relocate DD I think a good place for it would be where the old carousel building is in Frontier Town. It would fit perfectly in there in between TC and WWL. Plus I'm starting to like this re-theming idea of an old mine shaft.

CP has shown that they can do simple theming, and I mean truely simple i.e. no maintance. So, add some more fake supports onto DD to give it a more beefy mine shaft look, paint it brownish or rust color, and throw up an old shake somewhere and you have the ride.

That's just my opinion though

Actually, we care about quality, but the GP cares about quantity. You get more guests if you say, "we've got more coasters than anywhere in the world!", than if say, "They may have more, but our's are better!".

A perfect example of this is Holiday World in Santa Clause, Indiana. They have two pretty damn good coaster's, so I come back there every year. I come back because I'm an enthusiast, people who don't know much about coaster will probably not bother going there at all.

I also agree that CCMR will be left alone, it compliments Frontier Town greatly, but I couldn't see Cedar Point removing ID, Corkscrew or Wildcat. ID, and Wildcat just got new paint jobs in the last 2 years. If they were going to anything with them anytime soon, they wouldn't have done that. For Corkscrew, it is a classic at Cedar Point and I couldn't see the park without it. No way will they remove that one for a long time. Cedar Point has pretty much let DT detieorate, so that has me thinking that it's time might be ending pretty soon (I pray not :(). But if a ride is being improved, like ID and Wildcat, it must be staying for a little longer.

My nephews are just about tall enough to ride WE and JG. I would like to see another kiddie/family coaster first.

Actually If you look at the ride closely, DD is still in good shape for as old as it is. If it wasn't in good shape don't you think it would be having problems everyweek? I think it's still doing good for its age.
I also agree that getting rid of Corkscrew would be terrible. I actually know some people that have Corkscrew as their favorite ride. I think they've done well to upkeep the theming in the Frontier very well. Millennium Force doesn't even bother the theming at all, imo. I think MF is the only coaster that should go back there, it seems almost to fit in.

This isn't completely on topic, but does anyone know where the Swan Boats went? Michigan's Adventure maybe?

Yes, Michigan's Adventure.

I though it would be cool if they took Demon Drop, put it on the lagoon island, Then, for their next coaster, build something that would compliment DD. (Ala Riddlers Revenge)

I still miss Shoot the Rapids. I'm old. LOL
Troika, did you ever work on STR? To maintenance, it was a constance source of irritation. To Operations, it was a nightmare. It had a mind of it's own. It would do things that would defy explanation. I watched many a peon get his walking papers because it acted up, and we couldn't find anything wrong wth it. Ergo, it was his fault. One day I watched in horror as the third lift stopped all by it's self with a boat on it, then slowly started up again. This was just as a boat was approching the point of no return on the second lift. A quick inspection found nothing out of sorts with the lift(i.e. no triped breakers, belts slipping,etc.). I was gone by the time the decision to replace it was made, but a friend told me they litteraly held a celebration in the maintenace shop when they found out the news. Heck I would have paid good money to have been able to knock down the final lift hill. *** Edited 7/26/2004 9:30:44 PM UTC by Dutchman***
cedarpointlover, good wishful thinking, but thats about it, never going to happen.
I was looking at the map today, and I saw a huge empty space behind the Rip Cord in Challenge Park. I'm sure something is there that they just don't show on the park maps, but I don't know what's there. Does anyone know about this? Also, the idea of having a coaster go out kinda into the marina would be cool, but I don't think CP would do something like that. What they should do is intertwine the next coaster with an existing coaster, as many have already said.

Here's an idea..

Demon Drop could be relocated just about anywhere. With a small footprint it could be moved anywhere in the park and still be popular.

Removing WWL is not an option, maybe reconfiguring. Its a family ride that isnt too splash oriented, a ride that grandma and the grandkids can ride together. It needs to stay.

Now, why not remove Disaster Transport? The theme-ing has been less than spectacular for about a decade. I personally like the ride, but the theme-ing has gone down the drain.

There had been talk in the past about absorbing space from the parking lot to expand the park with a 'boardwalk theme'. So let's say the boardwalk theme isn't used.

Its very feasible to build a coaster in the front of the park.

I don't think its a matter of lack of space within CP, its more a matter of rearranging some oddly placed rides to accomodate newer coasters and attractions. :)

Lets not make this a compact park now... :)

I can see building a coaster in the front, having it go into the parking lot and whatnot. That'd be neat, parking your car right under a roller coaster! And I agree with cplover, I'd hate to see CP become more compact. Right now it feels very open, but if rides are bunched together, the capacity will go down and the spacious feeling will go away.

It'd be neat, but it won't happen sean. If they do expand a coaster into the parking lot, there will be no parking under it, or for at least 20-50 feet around it.
Just imagine that CP builds the tallest and fastest whatever and you can park under it. Now picture that there is some whacko out there with a grudge against CP (for whatever reason) who has a whole lot of diesel fuel and fertilizer laying around. Now you see the problem.
I agree that it would be cool, but for safety reasons, you wouldn't be able to park under it.
