Ride relocations- Demon Drop?

First of all, I would like to say that you may think this thread is, but it is not another... 'Cedar Point is running out of room thread'.

I was trying to think how Cedar Point could move around rides to create more room for further expansion and came up with an idea- I thinking of 'mobile' rides that are using a big footprint, but don't require one. I decides that Demon Drop would best fit the requirements.

My idea would be that it could be moved somewhere in Frontier village. (maybe at the old location of the Swan boats) It would 'fit in' easilly there, unlike a lot of more modern looking rides, and theming it would be an easy task as well.

That could clear up a lot of space, but even more space could be freed up with some buildings relocated or even removed.

I really do not know how "mobile" the Demon Drop is, but it just seems to me it is.

If anyone has any other ideas, or would like to tell me how my idea would not work, I would like to hear what you guys think...

I know Wild Cat is pretty moblile if you look at how it's set-up. Relocating that ride would be stupid though because its not big enough for a big coaster.

There have been many rumors not just from here from Screamscape too, that next year they'll remove White Water Landing and put something in right there. I think that would be cool if it turns out to be true, but I don't think I'll believe it yet until its official.

That move sounds realistic but you have to think about a few of those buildind because I think those are Employee buildings right behind Demon Drop.

Wildcat is definately mobile. Not 100% sure, but I believe it has been moved 3 times already.
Wildcat is in its third location, but that particular Wildcat has only been moved once. Cedar Point installed the Wildcat in 1970 right about where the Aquatic Stadium is today. In 1979, that Wildcat went to Valleyfair! and a new Wildcat was erected on the site now occupied by Disaster Transport. For the 1985 season, the Wildcat was moved to its present location.

They better not get rid of white water landing. That's a good flume ride, not like the crappy ones at MI Adv and other theme parks. WWL is a well nature-blended ride in some parts. I miss the caves they took out.

I think they should move wildcat and tear down that old building behind it. If I'm not mistaken, that's the guy's staff housing. You guys are willing to sleep in tents under a new giant roller coaster...aren't you? :) *** Edited 7/23/2004 4:42:28 AM UTC by rathofdoom***

I really, really hope that they don't take out White Water Landing. That is one of the few rides that you can enjoy with your enitre family. They already took out the Mill Race, they need a flume ride in the park.

White Water Landing is, believe it or not, one of our favorite rides. My email address is even whitewaterlanding@yahoo.com

Please don't remove it.

The only way they'll remove WWL is if they replace it with another flume-type ride. Granted SRF and TC are water rides, but they're soakers. WWL is a light-splasher. It's the only flume in the park and I can't imagine a modern-CP not ever having some sort of log flume.

If CP was going to remove WWL for a new attraction for the 2005 season, they would have done it last off season. Taking an attraction down of that size doesn't happen over night. Just how Dogem was removed for TTD, Jungle Larry's Safari was cleared a couple seasons before PT, and the old Fronteir Lift for ID.

Not necessarily. White Water Landing replaced another flume ride called Shoot The Rapids, the removal and replacement was done in one off season. White Water Landing is a fun flume ride, I hope it stays.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

With the removal of the swan boats, I was looking at things it that area that could be moved/removed. Here's my idea, and maybe it's already been sugested...

Move the Giant Swing (it doesn't take up a lot of space. I'm sure we can fit it somewhere. Maybe between the dogems, the skyride, and Johnny Rockets.

Then there are 2 options on this next thought. Either get rid of or build around the Antique Cars. We already have the Cadilac Cars and the Turnpike Cars, so I say remove them. However, they could remain and still build around them.

I think we need a new coaster more like raptor. Forget breaking all these speed and height records and put in a high quality ride that does more. If we moved the swing ride and either removed or built around the antique cars, there is plenty of room to put in a very thrilling coaster. Have it diving under and around the trees would be pretty neat too i think. Safety first of course.

I miss that with the Iron Dragon. They took A LOT of trees out with TTD. I realize it was necessary, but I still miss them.

Moving Demon Drop wouldn't free up space unless they took on some drastic construction projects. Behind the Demon Drop (toward the lake) there are offices for Games, Merchandise, the Merchandise Warehouse, Cash Control, etc.

All of those buildings would have to be moved and I am not sure they can be. I don't know how far away is too far. You will always need to have some support services on the Peninsula.

Now, if they tore down the Cedars Dorms (long overdue) and moved Purchasing/Human Resources off point then by moving Wild Cat as well you would have a pretty good sized area to start a coaster in the park and then go out of the park footprint ala Magnum.

Remember there was no attempt to save anything from Shoot the Rapids other than the machinery. The rest was done with bulldozers. The bulk of the demolition would have taken a week, tops.

Yeah, but WWL's construction involves a lot of concrete. I'm totally against removing the ride, and can't CP removing it. But that's just my opinion.

- Uncle Jay

I don't see it happening but I would like to see the ride rebuilt (keep the station) with some new elements like the backwards fluming that is popular now or a drop ending like on the IOA flume.

I do think the lack of a flume ride would be missed.

Before Cedar Fair does anything to the Point flume though they need to address the Geauga Lake flume. That thing needs to be turned into firewood.

lol Chief Wahoo! I'll bring the marshmallows!

Does anyone have a good picture of Demon Drop so I can really see the whole area around it, and get an idea of what Chief Wahoo was talking about?

Ok since 90% of everyone says we should keep WWL, heres another option. Instead of tearing down that, tear down Cedar Creek Mine Ride. You can fit a good size coaster in that area. I mean the ride is really bumpy and needs some more dips and turns it it. The best drop on that ride is after the first turn where your right on the water.

That topics already been discussed and discarded. Cedar Point will not remove a ride to replace it for two reasons: 1 they wouldn't gain any ground on the "More coasters than anywhere else" 2: CCMR is a good family coaster, its not super tall or super fast, but it makes a great beginner coaster, especially for little kids wanting to make the jump from WE or JG to the "Big Kid" coasters.

Besides, I would hate to see CCMR get pulled for some steel monstrosity. Although I'm sure CP would make sure whatevers next fits the part of the park it goes into.

JuggaLotus is right. CCMR is a beginner coaster. It's one of the reasons why CP not only has a great collection of coasters, but a variety as well. Plus, it fits well with the Frontier Town atmosphere like WWL! :)
