questions for employees

Since the description for this forum says "If you work at Cedar Point, or have a question for someone who does, this is where you post.", i haver osme questions for the employees.

1) Have you ever applied and not got a job?

2) Is it easy to get a job at CP?

3) Witch ride is the funnest to operate?

4) Does the whole crew have to test the ride each morning or only one person?

5) Does it ever get boring or tedious?

6) Whenever i go to CP, i have the sounds of screaming and coaster noises in my head. Does that get annoying after a long time?

Those are all my questions.

1) Have you ever applied and not got a job?

No I have not... but there are people who have been turned down before.

2) Is it easy to get a job at CP?

In my oppinion yes... but i'm sure those who have been turned down in the past will say that it isn't.

3) Witch ride is the funnest to operate?

You're going to get alot of different answers on this one. I'd tell you that Power Tower and Mean Streak are the most fun, because those are the two that I worked on last year. It really all depends on your crew and if you're willing to let yourself enjoy your job.

4) Does the whole crew have to test the ride each morning or only one person?

It varies at different rides but the entire crew does not test ride the ride each morning. Usually with coasters a person rides in each train for one lap. On Power Tower, two people ride each tower...

5) Does it ever get boring or tedious?

Boring... no... tedious... yes... there are times when you feel worn out. Particularly on mornings after you've gone to the bar and didn't get to sleep till four or five. But it's still always fun... everyone gets tired eventually though. You just have to work through it.

6) Whenever i go to CP, i have the sounds of screaming and coaster noises in my head. Does that get annoying after a long time?

Actually... you get used to it and it kinda becomes second nature. You don't notice it at all after your first few weeks there.

Funny thing is.. you have no idea how right you are.. you tend to take it for advantage..

you should walk through the park right now.. it's almost erie...

In regards to the noises staying in your head..... they are both right you dont really notice it..... at least not until you wake yourself up in the middle of the night yelling "Oncoming riders welcome to the Gemini" and find that you have your thumb up as though you are clearing a train. ha ha but it is all worth it. The people you meet and memories you make are worth all the bad weather, ignorant guests, mayflies, and muffleheads that you will encounter over the summer.

Yeah I know what you mean about it being eerie. The power outage this past summer was insane. I mean it was like one second you heard all these noises from coasters that you really didn't notice... but none the less you still knew they were there. But then the next second the entire park was completely silent. It honestly was so weird that day. So yeah Rob I definately agree with you.. it's eerie when the park is dead silent.

RIGHT, i was on the midway when the power went out and lemme tell you, it's eerie as all get out. and just some advice to new people...take advantage of bein able to go into the park whenever you want and definitely go in the middle of the nite at like 1 in the mornin when it's just cleanin crews, that's a really surreal experience!!!
How about "ice skating" to your office from December-March and having snowball fights on the midways - right, Rob ? Talk about different! I always looked forward to walking outside my office and hearing the first test rides of the season taking place. fpsoftballer: when I was seasonal, I caught my roommate in Commons doing spiels in her sleep too! I don't know if I ever did that, but I do know I got quite a bit of flack from my college roommate when I had trouble answering the phone any other way besides, "Ripcord - this is Carrie!" As far as coaster noises go, I still have nightmares about listening to the Magnum auto-spiel over and over again while working at Ripcord... "Welcome to the Magnum XL-200. You will be ascending to a height of 205 feet..."

Once a seasonal, once a full-timer, moved on to bigger things, but always a LIFER!

You can go into the park in the middle of the night? That would be awesome just to be able to wander around in the quiet, staring at the awesome magnificance of the coasters....k, that sounded REALLY corny. Still, fun idea.

It is fun being in the park after hours. It's pretty much like your own backyard. It really makes you feel like you own it. And about it being tedious...hmm, saying your spiel on the Thunder Canyon platform literally about 300 times a day (a saturday in july)...depends on what you think is tedious haha. I still love it though!

Eh... I don't know about all Ops... most of us at CP are pretty levelheaded. We're not six flags and we're especially proud of the work we do at CP. Not to rip on Six Flags or anything but I really have no respect for almost everyone who works there. But it isn't there fault that they aren't trained to be the best. They dont' take pride in their work like we do at CP. Thats really all there is to say... and all that needs to be said.

Thanks m'am. I won't lie, I'd love to go back to Six Flags, but career wise, "moving up" to Cedar Point will look good on a resume!

To add on to what Kristen said, Cedar Point management doesn't play around. Basicly it's their way, or the highway. You will need to follow the rules just as any other employee, some things will be different from Six Flags. I'm sure if I went to Siz Flags I'd need to adapt to their policys as well. Some of us, including me, take our jobs very seriously. Most of the important issues you'be probably already learned having worked at Six Flags; however nothing, including that gives you a right to break Cedar Points policies. I don't want to see anyone get into trouble, but sometimes there isn't a choice. Your additue towards the job and it's policies when you actually start working will be vital, on here doesn't give the whole picture but that comment you made makes it seem like you are a potential problem. You can be a decent employee, or a cocky know-it-all that thinks your always right, it's your decision which you will recive consuquences for just like anything else in life.

I don't care that you were a SF employee, hopefully you will be a great employee this year at Cedar Point. To me, thats what counts now. I'm sure you will be much more welcomed when you actually get to Cedar Point and the employees see a warm blooded person over just a name on a computer screen.

Jes, what I said wasn't necessarily including you. If you felt like you were being stereotyped by my comments then i'm sorry. But those are my honest oppinions about Six Flags. I'm sure it's an awesome place to work, but there is a different level of devotion to work at Cedar Point. When I went to Six Flags WOA I just thought the people that worked there seemed like they didn't want to be there. It wasn't just one ride's crew or anything, though I did not ride Grizzly Run i'll admit that, I still just looked around at so many things and said "That would never happen at CP" or "That would never be like that at CP". Everyone at Cedar Point is friendly... well most of us atleast but the one's who aren't usually don't last very long. I think you'll realize the difference once you get to CP. I hope your summer turns out to be amazing like my first summer at CP did. And for any offense that I caused by my earlier statements I apologize once again but you may soon find out that thats the general oppinion amongst CP employees of Six Flags. Atleast the one's i've talked to.

I'm not offended or anything (it's very hard to offend me), I just don't want you guys to get the wrong idea about me. I had to report some of my favorite team members as breaking rules, which lead to some of them being fired. I had to escort employees of the premises a couple times... I had to tell my area supervisor that my TL was breaking seasonal fratinization policies. I had to help the park build a sexual harassment case by playing along with a 40-year-old creep who kept touching our teenage girls! Not fun at all! But, I'm not working to personally have fun- I'm working to provide it.
