Question for any employees!

I am thinking about working at Cedar Point this summer, but a few things were not explained in the FAQ section of the CP page. And I have some questions that I would like someone's opinion on.
First off, how do YOU feel about working at CP? What are the benefits and what are the drawbacks. Any complaints with your employment? How is your pay?
Also, where are/ were you housed? Housing costs, services, equipment, etc. Any suggestions for that?
Finally, what is your job at CP? What is the job you do, and what are your duties?
As much information that you can give would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

What exactly are you looking to do this summer?

Well I live by Dayton. So I would apply for the housing by the park. And as for what position, I'm really not sure. I have some retail/ sales experience, as well as managerial experience on a small scale. However, I'm not sure exactly how CP's application process is setup.

Working at CP has been one of the greatest experiences of my life i have made alot of friends from all over the world. It is a great place to meet people and experience different cultures.

2012: Server- TGIFridays- Cleveland Road
2011: Foods: Grill Cook- Joe Cool Cafe
2010: Merchandise: Speed Zone/ Soak City
2009: Merchandise: Speed Zone
2008:Merchandise: Joe Cool Corner Store, Speed Zone
2007:Corkscrew, Cp and Le Railroad, Skyhawk, Kiddy Kingdom, Iron Dragon

well, im hired for the 2010 season and im a ride host so i get to control the ride, as well as make sure all of the guest of in there seats and buckled up, i also have to deal with irate customers lol and control the line make sure theres no line jumpers, theres no drinks in line ect.

Off point is down the road from cedar point it includes dorms and apartments if your looking to stay in those from i gathered the dorms are way better than the apartments. My pay will be 7.30 an hour which isnt bad because of longer shifts at the begining and end of the season. Housing cost is deducted from your paycheck i believe The dorms are air conditioned rooms where as the apartments only have air conditioned living rooms i believe

Correct.

Also correct, only the common rooms in Golds are air conditioned, however if you bring your own window unit you can have maintenance install it, which is what we did last season--it is affordable and TOTALLY worth it if you're going to be living in the dorms, trust me.

Golds, by the way, are the on-point girls dorms (Cedars are the boys'). I lived in Golds and worked on Monster/Witches Wheel, and it took me less than ten minutes to walk from my room to my ride. That for me was the big perk of living in Golds. Brought our own window AC and mini-fridge and we were all set!

Suggestions for housing...well, I would suggest that you consider what's important to you when it comes time to make that decision. For me it was being able to walk to work/the cafe/wardrobe (Soak City!) so I chose Golds. I know plenty of people who preferred Commons, the off-point dorms. I can't advise a complete stranger which one is right for them. Talk to people who have lived in both, and most importantly people who have HAPPILY lived in both.

And honestly, don't stress too much about housing. Remember--they're dorms, pure and simple. You're going to be spending most of your time working or hanging out in the park anyway, I was pretty much only at Golds to sleep and shower. Don't let housing run your summer, or you'll miss out on what makes a summer at the Point such an amazing experience (which, by the way, it is!)

I'm a second-year ride host--I'm actually the Assistant Team Leader of a ride crew this season--and if rides is up your alley I would be more than happy to answer any questions I can! Good luck!

Last time I saw they had drink machines in the line! I know you feel compelled to give advice and thats cool but you havent even lived the experience yet! It is very hard to find your advice credible especially when this will be my second year and I still look on here for advice.

i know havent experienced it im sorry, ive been reading where theres been other rides who are not to have drinks in line so thats wherei got my info lol ive been researching like crazy

2010-power tower!

I cant think of a single ride in the park that you cant bring a drink in line with you...

I wish you couldn't on Twister, we had some guy pee in his drink and throw it on the beach. Nasty. I have to agree with Kevin though. Unfortunately, research only gets you so far, essentially it prepares you for absolutely nothing. Go in open minded, not full of other people's experiences. It will make your summer so much more fun and so much more original. And of course you're looking for advice Kev, you get to be da boss this year =) LOL, I can't wait to come visit you.

I'd agree whole heartedly with geeps88 about gold dorms. A lot of people bash them cause they're kinda dated, but really if you have an a/c unit and a mini fridge..its kinda like heaven, lol. Sleeping really is just about all you'll do in your room anyway. A lot of people like the whole "night life" at commons though.
