Possible theories on enthusiast "disappointment"

I took my first Hypersonic rides on Friday. Based on that experience, I can say that I definitely won't be disappointed if CP's new coaster is simply a plus-size version of Xcelerator. Sure, an extra airtime hill or bunny hop would be nice, but I usually get a dandy airtime fix on Maggie.

The point I meant to get across was I don't care if it's short, and it doesn't even bother me if it's similar to Xcelerator. I would just be slightly less happy if they've chosen to utilize overbanked turns again. Don't get me wrong, I love the overbanks on Millie, it's just that too much of a good thing can become stale...

But who the hell am I anyway??? I'll be just as googly-eyed as the rest of us CP die-hards when this thing gets announced. -:)-

Interesting that Jeff, up to this point, has not commented in this thread.

Or even more interesting that my ass was out camping away from computers and enthusiasts for the weekend!

Well, I was not tied to the computer this weekend. I played two rounds of golf and catered to my inlaws. Also got to see the Buckeyes whoop it up on Texas Tech. I love that running back Clarett!!!

I just love watching the hunt.

I have two possible theories for the source of disappointment in the new ride. First, it should be noted that Jeff said that enthusiasts would be disappointed, so it must be some nit-picky spec or some feature that has been rumored that will prove to be untrue.

So with that in mind, could it be that this 420' tall, 110 mph-launch beast might not have a drop as tall as you might expect? This could end up being the world's tallest Wild Mouse ride with just a bunch of little zig-zags and spirals on the way down!

OR

If this is going to be the world's tallest/fastest revolving restaurant, I can see enthusiasts being inflamed if they don't carry CP's famous Cheese-on-a-stick!

Beyond the fact that it will be at least somewhat tall and somewhat fast, we really don't know anything.

The whole enthusiast disappointment thing is rather broad. Think about it, I don't think there is a single ride at CP or elsewhere that enthusiasts don't find at least one thing to complain about. Look at CP's most popular rides (these are general complaints I've heard).

MF: Too short, boring layout.

Magnum: Rather enclosed trains, uncomfortable lapbars.

WT: Too many enthusiasts complaints to name here.

Raptor: I know there are complaints, but can't think of any now.

Mantis: Trim brake, sometimes painful for guys.

MS: Slow, rough, boring.

See, it doesn't matter what it is, we will be disappointed. If I had to guess anything, I would say ride time, but there are just too many possibilities.

Who finally met the infamous Magnum Dan!

I rode the raptor on the 18th....and i don't know if it was like that before...but it was really intense. I dont think the trim brakes did anything and the train seemed to be going unusually fast. Or maybe it was just me. But it seemed pretty fast and painful.

Could you remind me where the trim brakes on Raptor are?

He's referring to the Mid-course. They usually don't slow the train any, just kind of gives it a tap.

Hmm....i always thought they did cut some speed off the train.

Anyway...something felt a little weird about that ride. I noticed not very many people were getting off with happy faces.

It's gotta be the ride duration. At this point the hype is building bigger, better things in my mind. (even though nothing specific was announced)

Oh, and Ralph, If people complain about Raptor, they usually attack it for being "forceless". Haters...:)

EDIT- There is such a thing as dropping whoppers to divert people. "Enthusiast Disappointment" may be somthing along those lines.

If someone says Raptor is forceless, I'm strapping them in next to me in the back seat.

I learned my lesson last year when I was Dissapointed at WP... Well I was wrong.. Even if this new coaster isn't raceing/ Dueling which I hope it will be, I'll be happy !!!! Becuase CP has Built us some great coasters and I'm sure this will be quite excellent in itself
