PointBuzz Group outing at the Park

5/31-Reminder update!

Just a reminder to everyone who is going to try to make it, we'll gather at the seating area on the water tower side of Coasters around 230PM this Friday during CoasterMania!

I'm know I'm not the most active poster on the site, but an idea was brought up in a meetings and gatherings topic that got me curious. Have we tried to get together as a group at the park?

I searched the forums and didn't see anything obvious stick out in regards to that, so I've made a simple straw poll (straw poll removed 3/12/16) to see if we have enough interest to possibly try to have a outing at the park this year (weather & unforeseen circumstances permitting).

There's quite a bit of time left before the park opens, so we should be able to figure this thing out.

I already have my one trip for the year booked (I live fairly close, but can only afford to go once a year), so I wouldn't be able to do it unless it happened to be when I was going. :C

That said- I would love to meet you guys someday. I was intimidated to post here at first, i'll admit, but the more I did, and the more I read and got to know everyone a little bit (as much as you can from what info you can glean from posts here and there), the more glad I am that I came. You guys are as great a bunch of fellow coaster nerds as I could ever hope to have met, even in a place like the intertubes. :)

There have been a number of gatherings in the past, though nothing recently. I think it's a great idea to do it again.

Great Idea! I'm in. I have seen Jeff and Walt at the park but I have never approached them.

Yeah, Jeff is pretty intimidating in person. :)

I don't even see why it needs to be something formal. Just a get together at a bar or something. I think most of the active posters on here are park regulars right? I don't know about you guys, but the majority of my visits aren't really planned. I just go. But it would be nice to start meeting up with other people, but I think there needs to be a little bit more of an obvious way to do that other than a meeting calendar. Does this site have one anyways?

Rob & djDaemon, I put this topic here since I assumed this part of the forum gets the most traffic.

Rob, I wasn't intending for this to be something super formal or recognized by the park (but it would be sweet if we get a shout out from Tony Clark or something like that). I was thinking more along the lines of "lets all pick a date the largest amount of us think we can make it and meetup" kind of thing. I know we could just all meetup at a bar, but that doesn't seem like the same thing. Plus, I'm 6 hours away if Chicago traffic isn't bad.

Walt, I'm glad your on board. If we can all come to a consensus, maybe you could post something on the site about it?

Pete's boat sounds like a great idea haha. I'm a home brewer, I'll volunteer some of my stash for that ;)

I can't vote in this next/2nd survey as any day of the operating season is fine with me. I have no work commitment.

Thanks for the feedback Dennis. I was going to make mention in my previous post that I know some people around here are lucky enough to be retired or otherwise not have work commitments, but I edited that out before posting to keep things short and to the point.

If there's anyone else with the same kind of situation, just mention something here and I'll keep a paper list on my desk with how many of you are interested and don't have any scheduling commitments to worry about.

I wonder if it might not make sense to designate a regular time and place where interested PointBuzzers could optionally meet on *any* given day to determine if there are fellow correspondents in the park.

Not to take anything away from a more formal get-together, but given the frequency with which some of us visit the park, it might make sense to have a standard meeting point....

That's not a bad idea.

I'll be at the park basically every day, so everyone can come say hi at Ripcord

I think a cool feature for this site would be a calendar where we could click a day and it would put our names in there. Then we could check that calendar to see who all would be there on that day and arrange a meeting with those members.

That's definitely a great idea. Way easier than this survey I have going. Walt or Jeff, do you have any comment on that?
