PKI catching up with the Point?

Though I will keep going to the Point regardles of who holds the record for most coasters, I do wonder how many more coasters CP can fit. One has to admit, they don't have the same possiblities for expansion as does PKI. I seriously wonder if CP would ever build into the parking lot and someday relocate parking to the main land. Makes you think (and wish).

BlueKnight
Probably a lot more than you imagine. CP is very crafty in the way they integrate new rides and attractions--plus there's lots of room for improvement of existing facilities that would leave room for more rides and stuff. Off the top of my head: the Pirate Ride or the Turnpike Cars could be removed to make room for new attractions; the games area along the Main Midway (along with the support services behind the facade) could be redone to open up room; more employee housing could be moved to the mainland; the Peanuts area behind Pagoda Gift Shop could be removed.
My question wasn't whether or not people would stop going to CP or even stop going to PKI because CP has more. The question was Would the fact the PKI would have more than another park in Ohio, make more people want to go there? I guess I need to give it in lamen's(sp?)terms "Why do you think people come to CP for the first time?" Is it a record?...biggest,most,tallest,etc. Why did you decide to go to CP the first time? I personally wanted to go because of the records. Even though we live in Lebanon,Ohio the rest of my entire family(9 brothers and sisters and their kids)hadn't heard much of CP. But when they heard about all the records. They all wanted to go. Are new people going to keep coming to CP for the first time if they didn't hear about the records or SFMM has it? A thought never croosed my mind to go there until I heard the records. Even SFO is catching up with 10 they'll have next year. Do records matter to people that have never been before and haven't heard about it? Just a couple of thoughts. Thanks for listening.

Just an extra question for people who know. Can CP build a coaster actually on the lake or do they not have rights for something like that? A coaster on water would be so neat to have even going underwater(with a tunnel of course). :) *** This post was edited by Mr."Coaster"E on 1/4/2001. ***
Finaly, 62 post in this thread and somthing arises that hads to do only with Cedar Point and not PKI.

The Lake Coaster. It may sound simple, put the footers and supports underneath water, like a bridge. Since CP once had a Water Slide in the lake, I am sure if they say within their zone (anyone know hoy much of the Lake CP really owns)? and it dose not interfere with boat traffic. Heck, some coasters are built over rivers, why not the shallowest of the Great Lakes.'

The only problem though comes in cost. First, building footers and working underwater would drive the price of this coaster quite high. The biggest problem is THE LAKE. It would eat the coaster and turn it into Swiss cheese. When the lake turns into ice in the shallow waters, it would hack into the supports. Not even brides are built on Lake Erie. Aquaman would have to maintain this coaster.

I am no expert, but I think there is no way it would work.

What about under ground or going into buildings? Think about it. A building that looks like a old trian station. You would line up inside for two to three hours..... Hey man it's the truth RIGHT!!! .....then you get on the ride. For the frist part of the ride you would be inside too and then almost without Warning your outside..... Oh wait what about a lift hill? Crap.

I've seen some crazy stuff in my time, but that... was... AWESOME!!! But, sorry about your car, man
They could always have a magnetic launch, or launched lift...
hey, I'm new to this whole website but I've been a devoted cedar point fan since i was 6 years old. I've never been to PKI but I don't really want to, i may be being hypicritical here but to me any coaster not at cedar point i dont care about...maybe i care more about the park then anything else but the rides are what draw me and and a lot of people back year after year. Just like alot of people a small coaster was my 1st the blue streak...but when i first went on it i loved it and i've loved every coaster at CP since. They all have there own uniquness and special features. I personally don't care who has the records...cedar point is simply the best in the world...
Before this year, I was much like you, but now I care about The Beast, SOB, etc. Hopefully I can head to SFGAm this year to expand my love of coasters even more.
Our beloved CP has the best reputation of all parks(except WDW) in the midwest or at the heart area of the nation. A reputation this strong doesn't go away in one year. Yes, CP needs to do something big, but not now or even next year. Many people are still talking about MF and will be for a long time. Also, another new great feature is Camp Snoopy.

MagnumFAN,what kind of reputation? Just wondering what you're thinking of. And WDW isn't in the midwest.
I think he means the best reputation possible.
OK? Well, Kennywood, Disneyland, PKI, PKD, Busch Gardens Tampa, BG Willaimsburg, WDW, IOA, SFGAdv, SFGAm, Universal, Knoebels and many others have just as good if not better reputation than CP. All safe, all clean, all good rides, all excellent workers, all great theming, all great atmosphere. CP can't even touch one of those. Hmmm...
Many of the GP I've talked to here in Indiana know of really only 3 parks CP, PKI, and SFGAm. Out of these, they all love Cedar Point.
Not to mention the shelf full of Applause and Golden Ticket Awards. They need that Greek Dude Atlas to hold that shelf up.

Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when the majority of the public votes Cedar Point as the best Amusement Park in the World, that can only mean on thing. It is.

Cedar Point has always followed the rule of the Chinese Philosopher Confucius. His preaching of Daoism as well Yin and Yang taught people like Robert L. MungerJr., Dick Kinzel one thing, balance. CP has always had the ultimate balance of coaster's, show's, kiddy rides, employee's, resort's, and cleanness. It attracts people of all ages which other parks simply do not do (PKS parks). While it dose not have the best in all these categories, it ranks quite well.

In my OPINION, The only other park I visited that came close to this was BGW, which lacked in the coaster category . What BGW lacked was a coaster with good air (which I love), and with the addition of Apollo's Chariot, I might have to make another visit.

I thought I loved CP too CP_bound, but I had a look at why I liked it. After I got back from my trip this summer, I wanted to analyze why I liked certain parks over the others. I loved WDW in absolutely every category except coasters, but I know they except for the past couple of years, they tried to be driven in every aspect as a family park. It's beyond me why this magnificent resort never gets the respect it deserves. Well, at least they get the money and amount of guests they deserve. Now I liked all of the other parks I listed for similar reasons as WDW(except CP, Paramount and SF). Of course CP has 4 World Class coasters, all 9's or 10's on a scale. But the rest are on a scale of 3-7 out of 10. I won't count the kiddie coasters, but what's so special about...well, any of their other coasters. Blue Streak is a nice ride, but other classic coasters I've ridden built in like the 1920s have been much better with much more air time, twists and turns, and G-Forces than BS. I think MS is better than a lot of people think, but it is pretty low on the wood if you look at the other parks. I even thought DT was decent. But all of the people in our group, agreed that CCMR, Iron Dragon and Corkscrew all were very low among the coasters we've ridden. Overall, we probobly as a whole enjoyed Gemini and Magnum the most. None of us were impressed by the food. It was just like all other food we've had at parks. We like Disney's, Universal's, Holiday World's and BGW's food a lot better. The rest about equally. It stays clean though. Not as clean as Disney(they probobly even clean the trash before they finally get rid of it),but I'll definitely say they're clean. But guess what, all the other parks I've mentioned, have been clean too(unless everyone is counting what's in the toilet as not clean or the people that go through the gates). I don't know how in the world they can truely test a parks cleanliness if they only go once or even twice a year. I mean, they would have to visit every single park to make sure, wouldn't they? Or just give to CP anyway, because they're CP. Because of their collection of non-coaster rides, I could see CP as being higher on the list. I mean, I loved Demon Drop and Power Tower. But many of the rest,(and I didn't say all)are just safe versions of what I can find at a fair. And SFGAm?Adv?, one of those had just as great of a collection as CP. And none of CP's shows were that great. We saw all of them too. I think we even liked the Batman Stunt Show at SF better than most and the Country Bear Jamboree at Disney was better than all the shows at CP.

And Joe E. said:

"Anyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when the majority of the public votes Cedar Point as the best Amusement Park in the World, that can only mean on thing. It is."

Well Joe, how many of those people that voted for CP had been to every single park in the World, in the US, in the midwest, or even every single park in Ohio or their own state. I don't think anyone can say something is the best park if they've not been to all of them. I never say and declare that"........is the best park on the planet." Sure you have those feelings, but that's not really true.

And people complain all the time because you compare parks and your posts get closed down or deleted. But if they show the evidence to why they believe that, why can't you debate about something. Rrrrrr!

Oh well, I should have known that you can't get a point across to those that are ignorant and in denial(in this case of "their" park being better than everything else,no matter what, even if they've never been to all of them).
Why is it, Mr. "Coaster" E, that you get to have your opinion, yet you belittle anyone who's opinion is different? You say that people can't proclaim CP or SFGAm or WDW as their favorite park or the best park in the world or whatever unless they've been to every park in the world. Why not? We're talking about amusement parks here, not nuclear proliferation.

How is that you can criticize these people unless you've read every single thing they've ever ridden, and analyzed and visited every single park they have?

If you start calling people ignorant, that just makes you look like the jerk...
