It's Valravn. Not ValRavn, Valravyn, or Valraven.

Thank you for correcting my Danish language error, I humbly apologize for being fluent in only English.

The chain link fence near blue streak was replaced because it was unsightly and didn't meet the standards that Mr. Ouimet has set.

The Wooden fences have been for generally temporary setups, until the next phase of a project commences, there would be much better aesthetically pleasing fencing options for that area if it was permanent. But, yes, It will hide unsightly backstage areas for now.

I don't think anyone is forgetting that those buildings are currently used for housing. CF owns plenty of property to build new dorms, and in fact has built several new dorms over the last couple years. Those building are constructed very quickly and also can be worked on during the regular and fall seasons. Also, new management has shown that they are very capable of multi-tasking and would be able to easily do whatever may be going in place of Cedars and build new dorms simultaneously.

But, why would someone stay in a hotel overlooking the Marina when they could stay in a hotel on the beach?

Promoter of fog.

I'm curious as to how much sleep the college kids are going to get, now that the quiet GTT is gone and Valravn's screaming riders are by some of their windows. I'd hate to be in those rooms!

I lived in Cedars last summer, and on the nights my Polish roommate didn't turn off the AC, I got ~8 hours of sleep every night. With the air conditioning on, it really wasn't that loud, but I was also closer to the marina than the park. I plan on living there again this summer, so hopefully Valravn doesn't add too much noise.

Expansion of Marina services would be excellent use of that land.

What else is needed at the Marina (aside from additional parking)?

How about a brand new large pool complex with a family pool, swim-up bar pool and large hot tub. Add some green space around that with some picnic tables. The present pool can be razed and the space turned into inside and outside patio lounge space for Bay Harbor. Bring some entertainment into that space. Between the swim up pool and new lounge, they would probably sell truckloads of booze to the boaters.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I love speculation. It lets the enthusiast's mind run wild.

What I think would NOT be a good fit for that area is a dark ride. We already got rid of a big ugly box blocking a beautiful view of the lake. We don't need another one blocking the view of the bay. That's just my opinion.

A facility along the lines of Harmony Hall at Carowinds would be a excellent addition to the area.

I don't think a hotel would work very well on that side, and a strong financial forecast is needed to see more guests are going to stay overnight in the future. I like Pete's idea. Why not have the best onsite marina as possible? They already proved that with the Breakers renovation. Let the hotels stay on the beach side of the property, save the bay side for the boaters! Maybe construct an area where people can sit and relax while a live band plays with the Sandusky Bay as a backdrop!

I don't see the need for a third hotel on the peninsula. Just remodel (or expand if really necessary) the sandcastle suites... I like the idea of a nicer marina and maybe some outdoor entertainment like a small stage and a pavilion or two. I definitely would like to see a Harmony Hall type venue, but I could see that more where the existing, dated, pavilion is in the front of the park. Why they haven't done anything with those is beyond me. They're more a less a home for the seagulls

I'd be willing to bet that plans are already in the works for the pavilion area near Blue Streak.

I'm inclined to agree that something is probably planned for the area between perimeter road and Valravn and also where Cedars sits. The wood fencing (even after it's painted which it looks like they are doing now) just looks cheesy and that is a really huge swath of it. Seems crazy to spend all that money on a new ride, pavers for midways, etc and then have that junk all around it.

Of course Raptor's queue has had it for years too so maybe not...

I have always been surprised that you could see straight into the maintenance/storage/garbage collection behind the old Pirate ride. I know the park needs areas to stage supplies and what not, but at least make it not so obvious. Plant some trees or build a non see thru fence to hide the operations area.

But the park has been using that style of fence for decades when it comes to either a perimeter fence or a solid fence to hide something. The previous fence was the exact same thing that stood for years from the Marina Gate all the way down to the Engine House. It doesn't look that bad and is a hell of a lot better than chain link with the slats in it. I'm not sure what everyone else wants in terms of a nice looking fence along the road. It seems like the perfect kind to use to me.

No doubt that land will be used eventually but thinking that it will be soon because of a "temporay wooden fence" is silly since that style of fence has always been used at the park

^Redwolf, in regards to that area behind Pirate Ride building, the thing that bothers me the most about it is the stench of rotting garbage on hot summer days that wafts in the air. It is very noticeable when riding Blue Streak. Of course I realize that they need to place the waste somewhere to be hauled off. I never utilized the picnic shelter right there, but I wonder if the garbage can be smelled therealso.

I'm with everyone here who thinks a small Boutique hotel would fit there perfectly. My thought was why not place shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment on the first level so that Marina guests can utilize those services, a second level parking deck, and have the third, fourth, and maybe fifth levels be hotels and even select condos (not sure if that's the right market but maybe?), and maybe a rooftop bar/lounge for nightlife, and even a rooftop pool.

Enough dreaming though, I tend to think that Perimeter road will be rerouted and we'll end up seeing the luminosity stage flipped so that the stage faces the Marina and will be pushed further away from the midway. That way you get better flow in that area and it can face water for future fireworks.

It's amazing how many places the park is currently positioning for future expansion. Challenge Park, Shoot the Rapids area, Cedars Dorms, the picnic area by Blue Streak, the beach running along the parking lot (all those trees were removed and I think that area would be perfect for more picnics and even grills for guests to use), maintenance area behind Corkscrew/Golds Dorms area (clearly something is being planned there for the future, with the dorms demo and the new water tower going in, that may be a spot for expansion if you take out Corkscrew and get rid of that grassy area near the old mansion. Maybe even use that old mansion as part of a ride/coaster/dark ride, etc.).

This might sound crazy, but If Cedars goes, they should rebuild another Good time theater. I think I speak for myself and for families when I say that Snoopy rocks on Ice was a cool Ice skating show.

Sorry, you can't take out Corkscrew. You just can't. That's where I draw the line. :-)

I agree, Cedar Fair is doing a lot of work to prepare for future projects/additions.

Looks like they repaved the road, but stopped at the marina gate. I think that would indicate that there are plans to reroute it in the future from that point. Had they gone further, I would say that it's not likely to happen anytime soon because that would be a waste of money to repave a road then tear it up a year or two later. But maybe not.

I figured they would complete the repaving once everything is cleaned up. Right now I'd be happy with making the road just a bit wider for driving RVs through there.

Im sure the amount of weight that was on it from the larger cranes while the lift hill was being built certainly didn't help either. They could still pave the portion just beyond the crosswalk once access to the fenced off area isn't needed anymore.

Last edited by 99er,

It's not just a small portion that was repaved though. Look closely and you'll notice that it starts at the toll plaza at the start of the peninsula, and it even includes part of the overflow lot behind the boat maintenance building (or whatever it's called). The road is also wider, further away from the park, and is accompanied by a side walk from Blue Streak on up, eating into a part of the marina parking.

PS: not complaining about Cedar Point making all these improvements. They're much needed. Just wanted to point out what I saw.
