Parking lot coaster?

This needs to be quoted for truth in every single thread where people complain about new rides looking sparse and barren.

I wouldn't go that far. True, the WWL before-and-after photos do demonstrate what a couple decades can do for "charm".

That said, take another look at one of WWL's "before" photos. There are mature trees throughout the ride (albeit barren, likely due to time of year). They went through the effort to either design around some existing, mature trees, or made the effort to construct around them. In either case, they made an effort to preserve the "charm" that already existed there.

Contrast that to Maverick's construction, where they literally razed the entire plot of land before construction. Today's P&D (or Dept. of Charm, or whatever) could learn a few things from the way things were done 40 years ago. Today's efforts to retain charm seem absolutely lazy and apathetic by comparison.

Agreed! WWL is the bare minimum for landscaping in that area of the park and it's foliage was far superior to STR from the very first year. STR isn't going to fill in the same way although it will eventually look somewhat better. I'll gladly eat my words. It also seems they keep it cut back so it has no chance of growing in -- possibly because this ride is a cement swimming pool and it's too much work to keep leaves and such out of the system. Since it can't be the forest we need or want, someone mentioned they should relocate all of the Paddlewheel scenes to this ride and I always thought that was a brilliant idea. Would be so cool to have the feuding families shoot at you and have barrels spring a leak from the shots right as you pass. Another nod to history and a mediocre attraction might get bumped up into the must ride category -- for those who love the park experience and not just the roller coasters.

^Best thing I've read all day. That Idea is genouis! I'm sure CP would have to refurb some props but for the most part I can see this being a huge success. Not to mention cost effective. The ride could use some more "theming" and props like what's scene before the second lift. Heck, add some props with some "fueding" action that have two "hilljacks" shooting water at each other, which then gets riders wet.

STR is terribly themed, its just seems like a really open space. I don't see how the concrete is really a problem, your not going to notice it once your down in it. The landscaping with rocks could use a bit more foilage though, just my 2c.

^^I would absolutely love that!

I agree, but I also think that give it 10 years when more trees have grown up. Then Shoot the Rapids will really blend in with it's environment. By the way getting back on topic with Gatekeeper, does anyone think that Gatekeeper will have some sort of theming to it besides the front gate? I would love to see some kind of theme when you walk into the queue kind of how the way they did it with Maverick.

What's the theme when you walk into Maverick's queue? I just see vending machines.

^ Well it has that western feel to it.

STR is not themed, it's decorated. What is the theme?

There is no "theme" to Maverick either; Again, it's decorated. Is it a horse? A train? What is it?

A theme requires a story...a tie-in that the audience can become engaged in. That said, don't take my comments as complaining, either, until the day Cedar Point begins advertizing itself as a theme park.

Maverick definitely has a Western type of feel to it. Whether that classifies it as a theme or not, I don't know, but I'd love something similar in the GateKeeper queue.

Verbolten is themed.

Maverick is decorated.

Let's Get Weird.

^ True,Verbolten has a great theme. That entire park has amazing theme in it. Then again it's not a cedar fair park, so I'd expect them to do a better job at the theme. Yes, Mav has a good western theme, esp. when they used WWL's old station incorporated into the line.

As for Gatekeeper, Take Griffon for example. I bet they try to do something along the lines of griffon at BG. Those 2 rides seem like they have similar theme. And it wouldn't be that much work for CP, as I know CP is not a theme park and griffon is not heavily themed like let's say verbolten or alpengeist is.

Hey Cedar Point was almost a Busch park at one point.

Really? We're going to split hairs like that? "Decorations" have a theme, therefore the ride has a theme.

I shouldn't make posts after midnight.

A better way to say it would be that there are different levels of theming; from light and moderate to completely immersive, which is where a story, etc., would come in.

Any theming at CP is good theming, whether it be of the 'decorative' or 'immersive' subtype. Unless of course, it tries to be the latter while actually only achieving the former.

Not that the Point has ever built a coaster like that or anything. Perish the thought!

Sounds like that would be a disaster...

when i was just there last sunday my family walked to were the staff lot is and in some places they are putting footers in the lot closest to were the ride is going to be why is that

before i respond please next think before your type, proofread, use proper punctuation marks, and capital letters when needed.

Because that is where the designed and engineered plans have required them to put the particular footers in precise locations.

^Hmmm...

The first sentence doesn't have capitalization in its first word, and "I" isn't capitalized. The second "sentence" is just a fragment. I agree that the post you critiqued was abysmal, but think in terms of glass houses.

Additionally, I am cranky and need more coffee. Carry on. ;)

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
