Overpriced hotel rooms.

Quick Question:

So you only have to be 18 to stay in one of the resorts by yourself right?

A few years ago the minimum age was 21. Wonder what prompted the change?

The older the better. Less risk of obnoxious noise at 3:00 am perhaps?

Ralph, if I had to guess, it'd be falling resort occupancy that drove the change. Because, you know, adjusting the rates would be dumb.

Sadly, it makes more sense than thinking they suddenly realized 18 year olds are adults.

Well, I was just wondering, because my friend and I are thinking of coming in July and we might do it alone. I'm 18 and he's 19. Is it usually hard to book rooms? If we go in July, could I even book in like June or is that risky?

I haven't stayed in the CP resorts since 2004.

It would be more risky than booking now, yes. Given the purported low occupancy last season, and the fact that it doesn't appear they've adjusted pricing (morons), you may be fine booking then. But really, it's better to just book now - one less thing to worry about.

I really like the idea of booking a room for one of the resorts. The problem is, I can go for the weekend to CP pretty much whenever, and I don't like the idea of tying myself into one specific weekend that may or may not have bad weather.

Why don't more people just play it by ear, and if the weather is going to be great that weekend call the resorts, if they're booked, just call Joe's Hotel, the KOA, or a Super 8 in Sandusky?

I dunno, maybe it's just me?

Some (most?) people have responsibilities that must be taken into consideration when taking trips. It's easy for a local, young person with no kids, for example, to pick up and head to the park on a whim. Not so much when you have to take the kids out of school, take time off from work, line up someone to let the dog/cat/horse out, etc.

1) I have a wife and kid I take
2) I said weekends

If you're talking about week long vacations great, but I was talking about weekends, you know, driving down Friday night, leaving Sunday night. I dunno, I guess I figured at least some people were talking about long weekends, not full blown 9 day vacations.

I never claimed kids == impossible weekend trips.

I simply said most people need to plan ahead. Don't forget that enthusiasts are, in most cases, very different from the vast majority of the park's guests. Yes, we junkies can more easily go on a whim (we have season passes; we know where to/not to sleep; we don't need directions to the park, etc.). Most people cannot.

To your original point - yes, I think most of us do play it by ear with regard to weather and such. That's simply not a luxury most guests enjoy.

Are you saying that we, aficionados, should not give advice to regulars in a room like "overpriced hotel rooms", on better options we are aware of?

djDaemon's avatar

I'm suggesting that telling someone to wait until the week of to make reservations for a July visit is likely not a "better option" for most people.

A better option for some? Or if it isn't a better option for all, it's not worth noting?

I have no idea what you're even arguing. Or why.

Brandon

Why do we need to twist words around?

The point being made is that for some people waiting until the week of or even the week before to make hotel reservations isn't the best option.

I know when I visited two years ago I scheduled it and booked my hotel room a month in advance. Does that mean I couldn't wait until the week before to find a hotel room? No. It just means I wanted to be sure that I had it all figured out and not have to stress over it. Plus, I was like most families in the fact that I could only visit once that year for two days. So it was just more prudent to do it that way.

Me and my friends are just sleeping in my car this year. :) Its free.

also, prices depend on occupancy. If you book a hotel room now, it may be cheaper than booking it the week before you come or even the day you come. It's the chance you take, but that's pretty much the 411 on any hotel.

Well, I was just looking to book a room or two for July at Breakers, Sandcastle, or LP and man, everything is so expensive! I mean Breakers Express seemed decent with their prices but we want to stay on site! The cheapest I could find for two nights was like between 300 and 400 dollars and that was in Bon-Air. I've heard some pretty bad reviews on that so I don't know about that. I guess if they renovate like they say they would then I would stay there...

It's just frusrating.
