Next on the chopping block ... Corkscrew ??

I agree that they would probably fill in Iron Dragon's family coaster replacement before they took Iron Dragon out. Perhaps on the plot where All Wheel's Extreme is they could add a family motorbike coaster similar to Pony Express at Knott's and theme them too look like dolphins which would tie in with Oceania and the beach. Planet Snoopy is right there. Pony Express actually goes 4 mph slower than Iron Dragon.

I've always thought an Intamin Jet Ski coaster would perfectly add to the park. http://www.intaminworldwide.com/amusement/RollerCoasters/JetSki+Coaster/tabid/138/ProductNumber/JetSki+Coaster/language/de-DE/Default.aspx It would be more appropriate for CP to add this rather than a coaster themed as a dolphin (it's Lake Erie, not the ocean.) It would add to the coaster count and would help fill the hole of family coasters.

They've had ocean theming in that area for years in Oceania and Ocean Motion. They could sell tons of cheaply made stuffed animal dolphins that are made by other children.

I don't know how marketable jet ski's merch would be. I do dig the Jet Ski theming though in that area. Maybe it would make more people aware that they have jet ski rentals. Most people never go on the boardwalk.

The ocean themeing has been long time gone since 2003.

True, but why was that the choice taken both on RWB and MS? I can't think of many reasons other than such a project takes a lot of work, a lot of time, or costs a lot of money. Any or all of those add up to Big.

For RWB I'm surprised Cedar Fair even touched that. Did they? I think they attempted to re-track Villain.

On Mean Streak the reason that comes to me is why spend money on a project that you can't really market.

The first two years of retracking were done before Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake from Six Flags. CF then finished the program the next off-season. And they did retrack Villain--or a goodly portion of it, at any rate. Its last year of operation, the ride was running beautifully. (I even took my then-five-year-old daughter on it; even she liked it.)

If I recall, Cedar Fair actually had more work done to Wolf Bobs on their watch than Six Flags. The second half of the ride was retracked for the 2003 season, the final for Six Flags. I believe two additional offseasons worth of work was done on the coaster (although the majority of the 03-04 offseason was still under Six Flags' watch). Still, Cedar Fair had the work done on the turnaround just after the first drop as well as other track work in the first half of the ride. Quite a bit of cash was dropped on that ride for just a couple of years worth of rides, and it's so sad to see it in its current state. Just a few weeks ago they did quite a bit of demolition work and removed the lift hill and first drop. All that remains are the turnarounds.

And yes, Cedar Fair also did some work on Villain prior to its final season in 2007, removing the trick track and re-doing a few other minor things here and there. Again, not sure why they did this, as a year later the ride was crushed and sent to the recycling factory.

^It's a shame that Villain's gone. When it was running smooth it was the best wooden coaster in Ohio.

I don't think any ride should be on the chopping block unless it becomes to tedious or expensive to maintain that particular coaster. However, as others have said, I wouldn't mind seeing Mean Streak get the "Texas Giant" treatment to make it more thrilling and fun!

ChrisC.'s avatar

^I second that!

Wouldn't a new wooden coaster cost less than the Texas Giant refab? I couldn't find a clear answer on El Toro's cost but it was $10 million for the Texas Giant's new track.

Yes.

Unless it was a really, really big new wooden coaster, of course.

Yes, but then more than likely they would need to find a new home for everything in the MS junk yard along with tearing down their newly built haunt.

Don't get rid of iron dragon! That ride is awesome. Get rid of corkscrew I don't care but not ID.

I wonder how far out in the future someone will nominate MF as a good candidate to get rid of to put something better in its place?

Most likely around 2100 lol. I don't see Corkscrew being the next to be removed. Sure it isn't the best ride in the park by any means, but like some have already said, it does not take up a ton of room and also looks nice.

The thing about Corkscrew is, what would you replace it with? There's only enough room to put a small flat there. It takes up practically zero space.

That's what I thought too, but a few people mentioned the fact that they're planning on getting rid of the buildings right next to CS, which would free up a large enough space to fit something in (assuming it would also use the midway in some manner to salute CS's iconic Corkscrews)

The designing of these things nowadays never seizes to amaze me. Coasters can and are being built over, under, in, around and through just about anything. I've been going to Hershey Park for 35 years plus and I would have never imagined that they would be able to squeeze Skyrush in where they did. I have no doubt that if CP wants to put a new monster creation in the area of Corkscrew, there will be PLENTY of space.

I was super before Super Stew was cool !

Actually the ride I see going next is Iron Dragon. Not because of it being a bad ride or not being popular because it is popular enough. However it is because of the fact the manufacturer of the ride is no longer in business. This makes getting replacement parts really difficult as the years go by.

Guess that means we should start saying our goodbyes to Magnum, Gemini, Mine Ride and Corkscrew...

Arrow went under ten years ago and was quickly bought out by S&S. I think we're okay here.
