Next on the chopping block ... Corkscrew ??

When I was at CP this year we had to make sure to stay away from Corkscrew from 12-4 because every time we'd walk by the queue was completely full. So I would say that people still ride and enjoy Corkscrew.

Within the next 10 years they'll probably remove another roller coaster. Magic Mountain and Cedar Point are approaching the limit on the number of coasters each park will probably have. Neither is ever going to have 25 coasters or something. It's like expansion in sports leagues. Eventually there is a limit. Neither park has reached that limit yet, but they will soon.

I've never bought into the notion that they are short on room. Rides get replaced and at 340 acres it's still a huge park. If they took out the maintenance building there would be a decent plot of land where Corkscrew sits. They could still have the midway inversions with the new ride which have become so iconic. The Iron Dragon lot would be prime real estate for a flyer and it could touch down on Millennium Island. Removing Mean Streak is a possibility too.

Either way there's nothing wrong with speculating on what will be taken out next. They'll all be taken down eventually.

My money would be on Iron Dragon. That's what I was referring to earlier.

It's a dying breed, and yes, the argument could be made to keep it for that reason, but are parts really readily available anymore? The removal of Big Bad Wolf shocked some people,, but the new ride certainly gave it an appropriate "nod" over the river.

And of course another to hold into it is because it fills the wonderful "starter" coaster category, and for that reason I would be sad to see it go, but only if the ride lineup stays as is.

I have a very strong feeling that over the 5 years, Cedar Point will see a nice bump in the family ride department; perhaps even that ever-elusive dark ride experience.

Here's some fun trivia for you. One of my colleagues at Mount (Dan Keller) told me an interesting story about the development of Iron Dragon. Long story short, there was some argument about having two lift hills, which many at CP felt was unnecessary. Instead of a one-hill rather intense ride that would have rivaled Big Bad Wolf, they ended up with what we have; a two-lift ride that is purposely less intense.

Then again, Iron Dragon is still operating.

^ I wouldn't think they would consider losing another moderate range thrill ride. They just took out DT & the Spiral which were great middle childhood/tween experiences. I see them focus so much on thrill rides & toddler experiences that they would lose an entire group of customers if they don't give them something to "thrill" to. And YES Kevinj: I really hope they soon fill the void that having no dark rideS brings. :)

And I agree as well...but I think in the near future, that gap might get filled as well (moderate thrill). I think we all know (at least the rational among us) that the next "big" coaster, which will certainly appear, won't be on the map for at least 5-7 years. I would personally be shocked it it happens sooner than that. That's a lot of years to fill in some holes.

Like the quality flume hole that still exists. :)

As much as we give Mean Streak crap, that ride would be a really great ride if they put some work into it.

Like shutting it down for Halloweekends to have extra time to do some major rehab work? Yeah, they did that the last 2 years in a row. Which is why many peoples opinions have improved as of late.

Yeah it's still not good enough. The ride was only partially re-tracked.

I agree that they would probably fill in Iron Dragon's family coaster replacement before they took Iron Dragon out. Perhaps on the plot where All Wheel's Extreme is they could add a family motorbike coaster similar to Pony Express at Knott's and theme them too look like dolphins which would tie in with Oceania and the beach. Planet Snoopy is right there. Pony Express actually goes 4 mph slower than Iron Dragon.

Completely retracking a woodie is a huge undertaking. It took Six Flags, and then Cedar Fair, three years combinerd to completely retrack Raging Wolf Bobs--and that was a much, much smaller coaster. (Also a fun comparison as they both were/are Bobs layouts.)

Is "combinerd" an Appalachian thing?

Yes, yes it is.

I think I have a man-crush.

It was either that, or type the proverbial + 1!!!!

I went with the man-crush.

Lol...I didn't know those were equivalent. Good to know. ;)

I've had wine.

Or simply do a swap. I agree though, Iron Dragon does have some prime CP real estate. It's the Marvin Gardens of the peninsula.

Nice analogy.

If lack of replacement parts availability becomes or has already become a paramount issue, I would rather see ID go and have its trains cannibalized to keep Flight Deck running.

Heck yes. Most underrated coaster in Ohio. :) I love me some FD.

Oh come on...:)

Really? I may be in the minority, but I wish the industry would revisit the suspended coaster. Yes, Flight Deck is short, but so is the line, so who gives a &^%$?

This ride is non-stop fun from start to finish.

Ah well. Big Bad Wolf was in my personal top-10 until it was no more. A well designed suspended gives a unique ride.

Supposedly, S&S and even a few small independents produce any parts needed for Arrow Roller coasters.

Pretty sure that was by choice.

True, but why was that the choice taken both on RWB and MS? I can't think of many reasons other than such a project takes a lot of work, a lot of time, or costs a lot of money. Any or all of those add up to Big.
