I think most people would say they like Blue Streak more than Mean Streak. Which is ironic because up until 2008, Blue Streak's numbers were on average about 50,000 rides less than Mean Streak. Between 1996 and 2008 (the years I have numbers for), Blue Streak never had higher ridership than Mean Streak.

That is really interesting. You would think that Blue Streak would have higher numbers because of it being in the front. I guess now that I think about it, the entrance is kind of a pain to get too.
Blue Streak is a way better ride than Mean Streak currently. As much as we give Mean Streak crap, that ride would be a really great ride if they put some work into it.

I can't remember if we discussed riding it or not on our recent visit.
:) You were probably too busy looking at the walking park distractions. Corkscrew's back queue's were full and I commented how that was surprising. You were actually the one to remind me that a train had been cut. After seeing the line though, I just assumed we weren't riding it. Do you usually ride CS on your visits? It has a level of classic CP charm, but after your Vortex experience, maybe the Arrow loopers aren't pleasant territory.
Corkscrew is rather painful IMO. It is a ride I want to like, but it's hard to. That's life I guess. The OTSR's are positioned wrong, causing the body to sink down into the seat, giving pressure on one's back. The ride itself is fun, however.
Blue streak is one of the prettiest rides in the park, esp. after its paint job and led's. That, along with windseeker, MF, and Maverick. (for looks). Gatekeeper will also look iconic as well. CS is sorta iconic, but painful. But they should not tear it down, it's a family ride that still exists.

I couldnt agree more about Corkscrew. I rode it a few weeks ago and after the first loop I thought my spine had collapsed.

You're thinking of Boblo Island. :(Nope, George Roose and Emil Legross originally wanted to develop CP as a housing project. Luckily the park made money during the first year of their ownership and they must have been bitten by the amusement park bug because they decided to scrap the housing project and focus on the park.
The reason that George and Emil scrapped the housing project was because there was a big stink raised about them demolishing the resort. Ohio was threatening to impose emminate domain on the property and turn it into a state park. They avoided this by agreeing to rebuild the resort instead of bulldozing it. That's when George made his trips to Disneyland, coming back and declaring to the world that Cedar Point would become "The Disneyland of the Midwest".

I'd forgotten that. :)
I might ride CS once or twice a season, not really out of any particular enjoyment but more out of the principle of the thing. It's a rough, clunky ride--which I could handle, if it weren't for the headrest digging into the top of my back. And I'm not particularly biased about Arrow loopers; Ninja-SFSL isn't too bad, and Tennessee Tornado is terrific.

Sorry for the double post.
As far as it being a classic ride with charm, that's certainly true. My stance on its theoretical future removal is that someday when it has to go, the park ought to replace it with a modern design coaster that emulates that iconic inverting passover above the midway. I wouldn't be surprised if there have been discussions (at least of the tossing-ideas-around sort) among the higher-ups to that very effect.

Mike hit the nail on the head. The idea that Corkscrew is "never leaving" is absurd. The key to replacing a ride like Corkscrew, which has such an iconic element (the corkscrews over the midway), is giving it a proper "nod" with whatever replaces it, which would most likely be some type of memorable midway overpass.
But is it next? Just going over the lineup in my head, I don't forsee any coasters bidding adieu anytime in the near future. Five years from now, perhaps, but I can only think of one that has the proverbial writing on the wall, and Corkscrew is not it.

Like shutting it down for Halloweekends to have extra time to do some major rehab work? Yeah, they did that the last 2 years in a row. Which is why many peoples opinions have improved as of late.

fun fact I never mentioned on here. My mom's uncles were the owners of BobLo for a long time. I had the opportunity to walk around the boat and fire up the whistle a couple years back.

I don't know how you can say it is unenjoyable. I really like this ride. It's short and every element serves it purpose perfectly. The second hill gives some great airtime and if you know to lean into the corkscrews then you shouldn't have any headbanging.
And you want to know what's really crazy? Out of all the times I've ridden the other notorious beat-you-up, Mean streak, it has always been moderately smooth for me. Then again, I always ride in the front and make sure to keep my back as far away from the seat as possible. ;) Is there a way to ride CS without it being bumpy? Who knows, but usually I'm too lazy to experiment with it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't CS the first upside-down coaster to hit CP? My Mom used to tell me how its big draw back in the day was the fact that it had an inversion, which is pretty much standard in today's market.
Anyways, I heard someone say they're taking out the buildings next to CS. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/Titandwedebil/Corkscrew.png That would roughly free up the space circled in red.

I'd place a bet on that being due to Mean Streak's size. If I saw Mean streak for the first time, I'd be on that thing in a heartbeat. Blue Streak doesn't have the height to be noticed or maybe even desired by the coaster enthusiasts.
I bet that if we saw the numbers of people who RE-road each ride, then we would see the numbers climb higher for the BS.
1. Sit in the front of a car, preferably the front car
2. Keep your head firmly against the head rest
3. If your tall enough, push your shoulders up into the restraints
That is about the best you can do on most coasters with OTSR's.

Awesome, I'll give it a try next time.
If it works I'd be pretty excited considering the line for it seems to be non-existent most of the time.
I'm for the removal of any of the rides if they're going to build something new and exciting in its place. I don't hold a lot of sentimental value to rides that frankly suck.
I don't even place much value in rides that insidiously suck...
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
Yeah, and as much as it pains me to say it, I'd have to put the Corkscrew in that aforementioned (suck) category. I know I never ride it - and from the looks of things every time I've been there, no one else does either. But hey .. to each their own. There's certainly no shame for it mind you. It's 36 years old and has definitely made its mark and had its day in the sun. A staple and stalwart for sure ... It's just that when I look at CP's current coaster lineup, and then take into consideration the loud and clear message they've been sending lately with ride removal, it's a no brainer to me that this will be the next coaster to say, adios! I really don't think it's a question of IF it will be leaving ... It's when.
I was super before Super Stew was cool !
Im not a fan of the corkscrew experience but like others I think any new coaster has to recreate the corkscrew over the midway. despite riding it only once a season, I always marvel at the sight of the trains looping over the people.
