"There's a reason why we don't outline what we're doing 2,3,10 years down the road to the public until we're ready. We're also not open year-round, which is a huge consideration."
Well, we have several professional sports teams in my home town. It's pretty much a seasonal business to run - and yet they have a multi-year building plan for each team that they freely discuss, and they have location where they are going to play their games which was planned and announced years before it was built.
When you ask "what are you guys doing 2 years from now?" the answer is that they will either be winners - or they will be replaced. Either way, it's exciting!
SteveH, with all due respect, shut up. You do realize you're comparing a company that supports and sells computer software and electronics; and a professional sports team - with an amusement park, right?
If you don't think any other park can swoop in on the idea created by another park at any time, you are sorely mistaking and only highlights your ignorance. Just like the fact that you think all pro sports teams are organized according to plan, which is announced to the public years in advance. Thank God you don't work in the corporate office, is all I can say. Leave it at what Tony said: There's a reason why they don't outline 2,3,10 years down the road to the public.
For example, let's look at all of the changes from the first rendering of Gatekeeper, to the final product. It all looks completely different when compared side by side. Plans are plans! They are subject to change. How mad would you be if they announced in 2 years that we are getting a record breaking coaster, then we don't see that record breaking coaster because the plans have changed? You might be able to put on a front by saying you wouldn't be mad about it, but just go to Cedar Point's FB page and look at all of the GP's bitch about simple things on there, let alone what the complaints would look like if they were told about the future plans that didn't happen.
Tony is here to help hype up the future for the park. I for one am excited to see what is coming now that he mentioned the next 5 years look exciting.
Besides, if we knew what was coming in the next 5 years, what would we talk about all winter? They are the Amusement Professionals so let them do their thing. Listening to Cedar Fair's 4th quarter conference call, their FunForward strategic plan is obviously working.

Right! Quite frankly, I thought Cedar Fair announcing their yearly revenue records was a lot for the public to know.
I'm just glad they were able to trade 2 sweeps and the Lemon Chill guy to that TV Station to get Tony back. That was a great off season trade.

D-N-A stands for "Do Not Ask", because that is truly what CF is known for.
Are you the physical manifestation of negativity?
You really mess with the vibe here man.......and it's not coooool brah.

Maybe the "DNA" part refers to a coaster the shape of DNA. Maybe a coaster is going to be literally built IN the DNA.

Or maybe I'm over thinking it... yeah, probably the second one. haha (:

That's going to turn into the Hershal Walker trade part 2, with Cedar Point being the Cowboys.
In other words, I'm glad Tony is back.
SteveH...half the fun is diversion, speculation, and mystery, then the hype of the announcement and looking forward to the next season..
They do it that way on purpose, it's FUN.
Honestly take my year of working there, being an enthusiast I kept looking everyday. I was thinking back by Tiques as they were tearing up the grass back there & stuff, etc..lots of paint on the ground etc, it was fun to try and figure things out. Then once I put clues together for PWX and found out before the announcement..honestly, it got boring knowing what was going to happen before anything happened..
Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011
I don't get why people keep trying to pick apart "roller coasters are in our DNA". Cedar Point management has been saying that for years, Hildebrandt and Decker have used that term many times.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
Perhaps, but in this case, I'm pretty sure "D-N-A" was meant to be a clue.

OH MY GOSH I'VE GOT IT
D - 3
N - 14
A - 1
D - A = 2 so 2 = B
DNA backwards is AND
N - A = 13
13th letter is M
What does that give us B&M! YAY
You put too much into that....
Wow
Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011
Only took me about 10 minutes to come up with that. I guess college is paying off...
But in all seriousness, I like the clues that pop up all throughout the season that keep you guessing. As much as I would love to know what's coming to CP in 2015, 16, and beyond, it wouldn't be as fun because there would be less crazy ideas and rumors on here to read. Part of the fun is not knowing and being able to say HAHA to those who were so certain the park was getting one thing, but then they get something completely different.

Why does everybody think 2015 is so soon for a new coaster? I mean, Millennium Force was one of the biggest attractions to ever hit the park, and has been such a crowd pleaser since then! 2 years after Millennium, debuted Wicked Twister. Who doesn't love a unique twisting impulse coaster? The year after that was Dragster. There was hardly any space in between those 3 additions, but a lot of people want to rule out a new coaster between Gatekeeper's debut which doesn't make sense to me.
There are a lot of reasons why this comparison is poor. But I'll state the most obvious one: at that time, the park had gaping holes in it's coaster lineup that simply don't exist today. Sure, there are a couple coaster designs that aren't represented in the park, but nothing on the scale you're talking about.
Then of course there's the fact that building all those coasters so close together was a questionable business move back then, and would be a downright stupid business move today.

I think 2015 is too soon because Gatekeeper was just built last year. The time between Maverick and Gatekeeper was 6 years. CP in the early 2000's was just focusing on raising it's coaster count. Now the focus is adding new family rides. And, not many other CF parks have gotten major coasters in a while. This year the coaster is for Kings Island. I think 2015 will be a coaster for another park.

What were these gaping holes you speak of? Two of the new coasters mentioned were new type when they came about. MF didn't fill any gaping hole, it fits the same type of coaster as magnum. Dragster didn't fill any hole in their lineup either as it was a new concept and they already had a launched coaster. Also with WT i don't see what hole it could have filled. They have the same if not bigger holes to fill in their coaster lineup now than they did back then due to the types available.
Could you explain how that would be a downright stupid business decision? You seem to be saying that if they did that same pattern today then there is no way that they would experience a positive outcome
