Next Big Coaster

i have heard rumors that in 2015 of a B&M Dive coaster. I would love that to be true I remember riding Griffon as my first B&M dive Coaster and it was awesome.

I've heard those rumors for about 10 years now..

That would be among the tops of my wish list though. As much as I prefer Intamin coasters to B&M, I love the capacity, and everything else that comes with B&M coasters. The more coasters that move people, look great, and add diversity to the lineup, the better.

I doubt this will happen, but I've always loved B&M hypers. With Millennium and Magnum though, I don't see a hyper in the near future. I do think a new wooden coaster would be a good fit. Hybrid like Outlaw Run, or a good GCI? I don't know. I would enjoy either if those.

I'd love to see a B&M hyper, they're IMO the top roller coasters in the world. I would love to see something new from Intamin. Something that's completely different like Maverick. It doesn't have to be like Maverick, but just something that's different from any other park and is unique.

I also would love a B&M hyper. Diamondback is one of my favorite roller coasters (so much airtime, especially I love it in the back) and while some people may think it would be too similar to Magnum and Millennium, it would offer a completely different experience. Also, the perk about hypers is that you don't necessarily have to have huge plots of open land to build one. They can fairly easily be built over and around existing midways, buildings, and rides.

I was able to attend the Winter Chill Out yesterday and during the lunch/Q&A, Tony may have hinted at something big coming to Cedar Point in 2015. He mentioned that "next year's tour will be something you definitely want to attend." Does that mean new coaster? No idea. I feel like it could be an awesome dark ride which seems to be a rumor that has been going around for the past few years. With Canada's Wonderland getting a new dark ride in that Wonder Mountain, Cedar Point can't be far behind.

I doubt there will be a new coaster so soon. I don't see a new one until at least 2018. I could see the dark ride being the 2015 addition.

It sounds like I could have been completely wrong about my prediction based on the 3 new attractions in the next 3 years quote.

Bring on a new coaster.

One thing Tony made a point of saying was "roller coasters are in our DNA", so don't be so sure that 2015 won't bring a coaster.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Whenever it may be, i just hope its a wooden coaster worthy of the #1 spot!

How much longer are we stuck with the Dinos? Being that they now offer free admission for Platinum Pass holders, maybe its on its way out soon...

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

I think someone mentioned on here before that there is a 10 year contract for the dinos. I have no idea if it's true or not. Anyone know?

Why does everybody think 2015 is so soon for a new coaster? I mean, Millennium Force was one of the biggest attractions to ever hit the park, and has been such a crowd pleaser since then! 2 years after Millennium, debuted Wicked Twister. Who doesn't love a unique twisting impulse coaster? The year after that was Dragster. There was hardly any space in between those 3 additions, but a lot of people want to rule out a new coaster between Gatekeeper's debut which doesn't make sense to me. 2018 just seems too far away, but I would be a hypocrite if I didn't accept that time frame.

Also, I was told Dinosaurs Alive was a 7 year contract, but who knows. I'm sure they offer the free admission to Platinum Pass holders because they have made so much money back and then some on an attraction that was a very cheap purchase with a declining attendance. It's just another "perk" they can add to their Platinum Pass list. Yes, I can't speak for everybody, but as a Platinum Pass holder, DA lost it's nostalgia after forking over $5 per person for such a mediocre (at best) attraction after the first few visits. Now that it's free, I wouldn't mind taking a walk around again while getting some cool shots of Millennium.

I would be surprised if 2015 was the year for a new roller coaster but I don't see any problem with it. If it's in the budget and they have the chance to do something unique and different, why not? I think these next 5 years are going to be filled with a lot of surprises. I think there are going to be some big projects that will really catch us off guard.

My guess is that we will see a new GCI wooden coaster, B&M dive coaster, or B&M flying coaster next year.

i could see a gci wood coaster coming to the park. gold striker has gotten rave reviews and its only 105 feet tall, so it could also be good coaster, and a family coaster.

Psst...for the record, nobody mentioned "3 big attractions in the next 3 years."

I only mentioned that "roller coasters are what we're known for." Hence, in our D-N-A.

But then I talked about the 650-foot-tall, wooden hyper floorless flyer dive ball 11-loop coaster we're building on the boardwalk out into Lake Erie that will go into an underwater tunnel.

But everyone promised not to say anything about that...

Tony, you do realize that about 33% of members here are now trying to figure out what "code" you are using with the letters D N A with regards to the "next big coaster", right?

:)

Like the double rainbow...what does it mean?

Promoter of fog.

Double rainbow..it relates to GK over the entrance

Goes over twice, like a rainbow

Oh wow

D-N-A stands for "Do Not Ask", because that is truly what CF is known for.

I don't understand the entire concept of keeping Major Coasters a mystery until the very last minute. It's not like some other park is going to come in and swoop up the idea at the last second and beat them to delivery. If it's a record holder - fine, just leave out the exact details until later.

If it really takes five years to plan and execute something like a major coaster, why tease people and get their hopes up for something that falls short of their speculation based hopes? This sort of hype based advertising hasn't worked for Microsoft, why does CF think it works on us?

Disney and Universal release artist renderings way before the first shovel actually shows up on site, and yet we generally have to deal with a game of connect-the-footer to figure out what might be the next big thing.

I know it's easy to sit back and "operate" the business side of the park from home - I know I did it when I was younger. But we do everything for a reason. There's a reason why we don't outline what we're doing 2,3,10 years down the road to the public until we're ready. We're also not open year-round, which is a huge consideration.

I get the "what are you guys doing 2 years from now?" question all the time. So without giving out any specific details, I can honestly say that (I believe) it will be exciting. I know it will be exciting. And I'm a total theme park dork!
