News: Cedar Point’s mask rule ignites firestorm of fan protests on social media

Looking at years past when I was a smoker, I would spend so much time in the smoking section, probably about an hour and a half, maybe 2. This year I was looking forward to that extra time to see a show or something, but it may be utilized for mask breaks instead lol.

Congratulations on quitting smoking! I'm so glad for you 😊

Just when we thought This thread was dead... it's back in another form. I'm not a smoker, and honestly I wish I never saw another cigarette. But if someone is a smoker and does it in a respectful manner away from others, I don't see a problem with it. With that said, if true, this policy would be more motivation for CP fans who are smokers to kick the habit.

The problem is smoke is airborne. I understood addictions, however smoke affects others & should be banned for that reason alone.

It's funny you say that, because not wanting to wear a mask affects others yet some will not see it that way. Not saying that is your stance on masks. Just correlating that logic.

^^I can see that if you are indoors, or even in a smaller area outside where a lot of people are in a tight space like a outdoor pavilion, but I don't see a huge problem with the responsible smokers who stay within the section away from the common areas. I mean there are far worse things you breathe in while in Sandusky, like that god awful smell traveling down 250. It will be no different outside the park, in fact the exposure to 2nd hand smoke may be worse with all the smokers gathering outside the main gate, and 1 giant cloud hovering over everyone going in and out. 😂 Any Michigan people here who have been to Joe Louis Arena know exactly what I'm talking about.

I remember when you could WIN cigarettes in the park. It was the Birthday Game, right across from Fascination, and we played it all the time.
As of today, I’m smoke free for 90 days. Triggers are still pretty strong, and I feel some will never go away. I’ve wondered how the amusement park experience will change for me. I was a courteous, rule -following smoker. As a result, I spent quite a bit of time in smoking areas and they are a real time suck. So while I could still sit somewhere and relax, I think I’ll probably stay busier by finding other things to do.
The test of my mettle may not happen anyway, as I have no plans to visit the park.
I’ve been to one non-smoking park on my life, and that was Adventureland in Iowa. But now there’s a trend and many parks from Magic Kingdom on down have implemented bans. I guess the timing for me is just right. I won’t suffer the indignation of being told I can’t smoke anywhere, will I?

Congrats, rcmac, I'm 95 days smoke free. We just a had an addition to our family, baby girl, 4 months ago. I'm lucky to have her. She takes my triggers away. Keep up the good work! It's tough but it's worth it.

6 months later and I still have cravings, they get a lot easier to manage, but certain things, like a great meal for example, still triggers the craving. I try to keep busy to keep my mind off of it, ya know, idle hands are the devils playground. What I don't miss at all is waking up in the morning hacking up a lung, not to mention the $ I save each week.

Ill disagree with you there. If you've ever tried to sit down and eat outside at Panda Express and the wind is blowing all the smoke from the designated smoking area, its disgusting. Plus what really bothers me is when 2 parents are in the designated smoking areas puffing away with their kids right next to them breathing in all that smoke around them. The park should ban smoking for that reason alone.

You know what is even worse than that? Riding Millennium and going by Panda Express and the wind is blowing the restaurant's smell towards the coaster. That is truly disgusting!

Makes me hungry every time. :D

I agree with that, Cargo. That smell always makes me hungry waiting on the MF ramp, and always smells way better than any Panda Express I've ever actually had.

DS, good point. Cedar Point sure didn't place a few of the smoking sections in good areas. The one behind the magnum bathrooms also comes to mind. People entering the queue has to walk right past it, usually through a smoke cloud. As for the kids, it's pretty much the same as riding in the car with my parents when I was a kid, smoking sometimes with the windows up. Probably played a part in my smoking when I was a teen. As far as the Panda Express smell goes, I have to agree with Cargo and Cartwright. It smells delicious, and always lures me in.

Just gonna drop this here. cleveland.com is by no means a peer reviewed scientific journal. But this story helps support WHY masks are being recommended to be worn.

Again, not claiming this is definitive evidence, but hopefully it helps people understand the masks recommendations.

Posted this over on Coasterbuzz as well, but this has infiltrated my own community, so I thought I would share. Our country has entered a new level of dumb.

It was almost believable until I looked up what FTBA was. And the disclosing of conditions falls under HIPAA, not ADA. Plus the grammar is bad. And they failed to use spellcheck for 'poses' They even got the ADA wrong since it's called American's with Disabilities Act. They just put disability as singular.
