News: Cedar Point to show the Ohio State vs. Iowa football game on the giant outdoor screen

Yeah I know. Any time you bring class into a thread about OSU(CKS) it just ruins it.

Especially when you mention to their players that they actually have to go to one at least once in their 4 years.

Anytime you bring somebody from Michigan who can't seperate football fanaticism from the rest of life into a thread it just ruins it.

Q: What are the stickers on the Ohio State helmets for?

A: When a player does something above and beyond what is expected, a sticker can be awarded. Examples include a big hit, a touchdown, or attending class.

Any time there is a thread where Ohio State is involved, you should expect some UofM rebuttal, and vice versa. It's called a rivalry.

After my sarcastic bit of hating on Ohio State, I asked an honest question, let me restate it.

Since a major portion of Cedar Point's visitorship comes from Michigan, and most of them are Michigan fans, then I believe CP should also show a Michigan game on the big screen. I mentioned the UM-Penn State game in two weeks because this will also cover the people coming from Pennsylvania.

Hail to the Victors

It won't happen because it is Ohio. The big games in Ohio are the Ohio State games, not Michigan or Penn St. games.

Think about it this way; you're at a regional amusement park in Michigan that draws from Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois in addition to the Michigan residents. What games do you think they would show on their big screen? *** Edited 9/30/2006 5:51:20 PM UTC by BlueStreak64***

Blue Streak crew 2007
ATL Matterhorn Tri. 2008
Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Very true Blue Streak. And to whoever suggested baseball in the summer, The screen is used for the night time fire works show (whatever they call it now).

Kinzel is a huge Ohio State fan. That is why the Best Damn Band in the Land is there every opening day. CP is in Ohio. If you want to see the Michigan games, go up to Michigans Adventure. :P

^ - only in Columbus would you have to worry about that.

Ohio Sucks? So we beat (sc)UM 4 of the last 5 years, what does that say about (sc)UM?

I agree with your annalogy about only in Columbus. Only in Michigan do you have to worry about getting ran over because (sc)UM graduates cant read two simple words. Speed Limit.

Speaking of S U C K S... How many bowl games have you won in the last 5 years? I enjoy gambling, and one sure fire way to make some money is to bet against Michigan the last two games (Ohio State and bowl game) of the year.

PLACE YOUR BETS!!!

All jokes aside, let me share something with you.

I teach at OSU, and last quarter I had a student who was not doing very well up to the final, at which point he used my office hours to speak with me, etc. Bottom line, he aced the final and bumped himself up two letter grades by the end.

After he handed in his final he shook my hand and said, "I had a hard time because I am on the football team, and wasn't doing a good job of managing my time, but I didnt want to tell you because I didnt want you to treat me any differently than anyone else " (not that I would have).

Showing the game is a great idea. At Chet & Matt's (a great pizza place for those of you looking for a place to hang out near CP) my wife and I met a group of people who decided to go to CP tonight b/c we informed them that CP is showing the game, so it's drawing people in.

Promoter of fog.

As the final minutes run down on the Bucks game, does anyone know how it went? I hope there will be a few reports as the night goes on by faithful viewers from the Point. Great Buckeye win!

Just to clarify and make sure there is no confusion.. on opening day that is the Ohio State Univ. Spring Band (otherwise known as the athletic band) not TBDBITL which is the OSU Marching Band. The marching band is a class during the fall semster (or quarter) Athletic band is a winter/spring kind of thing. Sorry if this seems a little b@(#^y but my brother spent 5 years in TBDBITL and i got reamed for making the same statement (spring band has woodwinds OSUMB is strictly brass)

GO BUCKS!!!!

I also want to know how the turnout was. Was there a lot of people watching? Were there any surprises? (fireworks for OSU Touchdowns) 1eyedjack, it was nice meeting a pointbuzz member at my work.

I hope the park is not busy today (sunday) I wanna walk on dragster again like last sunday.

Peace, Mikey

Mikey,

It was a pleasure meeting you too. We got there right as the game started, and it poured down rain. We first stpped at the donught shop and peeked through the window, as it was crowded inside. They had two screens in threre. OSU on one, and "that other team" on the other. Howe cool was that?!

After about 5 minutes, and the rain still pouring, we ventured to Gameday Grill. The place was Packed! Just as full as any other sports bar in the state, but with one exception. IT WAS SMOKE FREE! Talk about having cake and eating it too! There was a small contingent of blue and gold in there, but hey, if a war broke out in the place, they were vastly outnumbered. After a 20-25 minute wait, we were seated, and ordered some wings and nachos. We told the waitress to take her time, and she had no objections. :) We finished eating just as half-time arrived. As we got up to leave, we asked one of the waiters if it was still raining outside. He said it was. This was replied with an "aw man... bummer". When we reached the door, not only was in not raining, but there were scattered dry patches on the ground. This is proof posative that UM fans really do live in an alternate reality!

Fropm there we headed to the big screen. Simply incredible!!!! Way larger than life. While there were a handfull of people there watching, I think the weather scared a lot away. After the games conclusion was certain, we decided to do some of the hanted attracions. Very short lines because of the rain. I had 6 wings left over from dinner that I was carrying, and offered them to the were wolves in WWC, but they didnt seem too hungry. The must have feasted on Wolverines, earlier in the day. :)

Why would they need permission to show the game? Wouldn't it be like going into a bar that was showing the game? It is on regular broadcast (free) television on ABC, so they shouldn't have to get permission, I would think.

-Tambo

It IS like going to a bar showing the game. The bar needs permission and so does Cedar Point, whether it's on the giant screen or in the Game Day Grille. Any showing of a TV show in a public venue requires permission to do so. That you can watch it free in your own home is irrelevant.

Dear Mr. 1eyedjack,

I'll spare you a sarcastic remark about Ohio State fans and their inability to spell (as you have clearly displayed), but I cannot make sense of this quote...

The waiter told you it was raining. Not a Michigan fan. So how is that proof that UM fans live in an alternate reality? The waiter is more than likely an OSU fan considering he is probably from Ohio. Now tell me, who's living in the alternate reality?

It's really disappointing that the rain had to come when it did. I don't know how many people ended up watching it, but I know the park was definately buzzing with people talking about it that day. I was in the Fright Zone, so I never saw what kind of turnout they had. I imagine that if the turnout was low, the rain would be the reason why. I think it was a really great idea, so hopefully CP will try it again and have the weather cooperate a little better next time.

And I won't point out that you just did the thing you said you weren't going to.
