News: Cedar Point blog shows footers at WWL site

I saw it as well, and according to someone who has been to the site, there are more than 2 already in place!

You can see three in the picture.

Yeah you can see a third footer in the top left corner, you can only see a little of it.

Final Coaster At Cedar Point's avatar

Back to the Cedar Point/S&S relation. I would still like to see a 500ft coaster, but I was searching through S&S coasters on rcdb.com and something caught my eye.

Take a look at this S&S coaster and tell me if it looks like a "Bear-Trap" to you...

I hope not too.

RIDE ON, and ON and ON and ON and ON and ON...

Find someone who works for the contractor who laid the footers... they talk... (or at least have in the past) that is all.

That contraption looks like it would make Flashback feel like a fine massage in comparison. Eeek, I really hope that's not what's coming.

CP would never build a Screamin' Squirrel. Terribly low capacity. They're pretty cool for smaller parks, and pretty innovative, but they have a tiny footprint. You could fit like 5 of them into the WWL area. Whatever's going in is way bigger than that, unless it's more than one ride.

I seem to recall that with TTD, the reason the Dodgem was torn down so far in advance and the footers planted so early was that the footers had to have a long period of time to set, or cure, or whatever, due to the extreme height and/or forces involved.

I sure see the advance construction here as a likely sign that we're going to see something either very tall, or something that bears intense forces (i.e. a high-powered launch). After TTD, I think the launch theory is out. At this point I would be very surprised if we're not looking at something extremely tall.

Other than TTD, CP has never poured footers this far in advance. They built MF, Magnum, MS, Raptor, etc. in the offseason. The earliest they started clearing land and laying footers was late in the previous season, around or after Labor Day.

They have no problem building rides in the Winter, and probably prefer to do so so as not to have unsightly construction going during the regular season.

I'm pretty confident that if there were not a physical requirement to lay footers this far in advance, they would have let WWL run through this coming season and started the construction in the fall, like they did with Mill Race and Raptor.

I think we're looking at something very large in 07.

Just a thought here but what if they started this early to get a job one say the first ride. With MM taking the recored of most coasters i think cp might at more then one. Maybe not two big one. But maybe like a kiddie or family coaster and the big on if not duel on the WWL site. just a thought. as for a location for the kiddie or family if this thought was true you got me. i think the wwl site is to small to get a 500ft lift in there and the only other launch left is S&S.

The kiddie coaster is going to duel with the big coaster. lol

I think that would be neat. It would be cool for them to incorporate a nice kiddie coaster back there. Something along the lines of a runaway mine train, but smaller than CCMR. Another coaster like Jr. Gemini for the really little ones.

Well, with all this talk about dueling, we can't forget about the dual flyer rumor. Building two flyers next to eachother certainly would explain the early start.

I think that Cedar Point has an unprecedented opportunity to turn that entire back area into something really special. Probably not since the "real" construction of rides - going back to the early 1990's - have they had such a chance as this to take an entire plot of land and make it really unique. I'm sure that we won't be disappointed in whatever they do with it, but I'm also sure that they are going to do SOMETHING else to the area than just throw another coaster in. Whether it's a flat, 2 coasters, a restaurant, theming, or all of the above, I am eagerly awaiting walking back there in 2007 and it really making me just stand and smile. I can't wait to see what they do with it.

"Livonia tax payers should request a refund."

They are too busy being racist... but that is a whole new discussion.

Grovite, I hear you. I am part of the crowd expecting a nice new coaster hopefully sans gimmicks. But I think a refurb ala the games area is needed for Frontier Town. A new ride alone will not keep me back there.. I'll ride the new one, take a swing on Skyhawk and if it's one of my off days I'll hit up Mine Ride. But if I want to eat or play games I'm heading back up front at least as far as Coasters.

New games, a few new or refurbed places to eat and fresh look would keep the back of the park lively...
