News: CBS picks Cedar Point for latest in "Assignment" series

Ok let's see this video.. WTF's an octogenarian?!? Put thruogh hell? Ahh now I am glad there's no pointy objects cuz I'd be stabbing his virtual head from ym screen! They couldn't have put Cedar Point down in any other way! They should've got 2 people who would actually ride the rides! But hey.. at least he didn't get on TTD or MF. Then there might have been another roller coaster death story. They should've just went to fricken baseball or sumthin and wasted sumone elses time for voting

1) Maverick 2) Millennium Force 3) Top Thrill Dragster

Why pick the amusement park that is WORLD FAMOUS for having the most coasters,.... the biggest, fastest, tallest, etc. rides...as a place to do a warm, fuzzy piece with your dad? I just dont get it. Cute, yes...but venue, inapropriate. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE spending time with my 84 year-old grandpa, but I would NEVER take him to Cedar Point! And he is one fun-loving guy! We went to South America for 2 months, the Caribean for a month, etc...he wears ME out. But a roller coaster? Come on! This piece was so stupid, unbelievable. Couldn't they have just gone to Coney Island and done the same touching story?

Thanks Walt, I already read the story, and like I said...it was cute. I just dont understand why they came all the way from New York to Ohio to do it. I wouldn't put grandpa on a coaster. I flew my aunt and cousin here from Minnesota and put THEM on the coasters, but they aren't in their 80's. I JUST DONT GET IT is all I'm saying.

Nic

Hey, I don't knock the story because of their fear of coasters. I have freinds and family that are like that and after 15 years of absence from CP, it took me a while to warm up to the bigger than Gemini coasters. I just think it was a poor story.

As far as the age thing goes, you are never too old to have fun and age isn't necessarily going to stop you from riding. I know young people that can't ride due to physical issues. I've seen lots of 70+ people getting on Magnum, Raptor, Millie, TTD and even MS. I also recently read an article about a 76 year old guy that has been on TTD 250x and plans a month long trip to CP this summer in August to ride TTD some more. I hope I'm like that years from now. Wonder what will be the biggest and fastest then?

I have cherished memories of CP as a kid and I don't think my Dad ever road the coasters. I had planned on picking him up from his assisted living place this season for a short day at the park with my family and he died before opening day. So yes, get out and make those memories before the time slips away.

CP-DAD, your story was WAY more touching than CBS'. It is totaly about the memories. That is awesome that some of these people can ride into their old age, I know my grandpa's body couldn't take it though.

My first few times at CP, I nick-named one of my uncles "The Happy Friar", because that is where he sat and ate curly-fries while we rode the Gemini. He rode nothing, but was happy to take us there.

I just dont see why CBS picked the BEST amusment park to do this cute little story. Milking the budget is my opinion.

You would think that if the two of them hate roller coasters, that they would have walked out by the beach and explained how CP is a full family resort, not just a concrete field with tons of coasters. He could have gone to Frontiertown and showed that a new coaster is being built, or showed Skyhawk and explained that it is the new ride for 2006. He could have at least shown a clip of Soak City, and I was very unhappy that the Historical Hotel Breakers was not even mentioned. Why not showcase the park if all you're going to do is describe how you hate amusement parks.

I was so irritated at this piece that I couldn't even come on here and vent, because I wouldn't have been able to type without cursing. That was a joke.

From a business viewpoint, CBS was "on assignment" to cover a story. Granted, we voted on where they go, but a story is a story. If a reporter gets assigned to cover the repaving of the parking lot, then thats what they do. Not moan and groan and complain that they don't like the color black and that orange stripes reminds them of a bumble bee that they got stung by when they were younger. If you're assigned a story, you do it. And there was MUCH more of a story to be told then what they did last night.

If I was living in the West, and had never heard of Cedar Point, I would not have made an effort to come visit. No specifics about coasters, the park, the records, the lower prices... Which is a shame.

Oh My God!!! First off-SirBumpalot...that is one of the best screen-names ever! OK, I am done laughing, and you are so right!! There is so much do do at CP! I plopped my aunt at the beach, told the bartender at Sandcastles to just keep her freakin happy and the rest of us went off and rode the rides. It is truley a resort with so much to do, no matter what. My friend and I took the ferry to Kellys Island and got our drink on, rode the Merry-Go-Round, lost our minds on the Dragster, giggled on the water slides, ...The posibilities are endless!

The CBS piece was touching, but, they could have done that crap anywhere. I think they came off as being disgruntled with CP.

Secondly, RyanNRobert, You two are too cute for words, but I still read your post anyways. EXACTLY! Why do the story here? And if you must, put a little somthin-somthin in it! My God! Again, I think they were milkin the travel budget. Was that even his father?? JOKE! Anyways, you two are fabulous, nic.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It's pretty obvious that most of you people were expecting a profile of Cedar Point. That was never the intention, it was just to get on a coaster with Steve Hartman's father as the viewers voted for. I happen to know that Steve Hartman, the reporter, grew up in Ohio and spent summers at Lakeside (just a few miles west of CP). In fact, one of the three choices (the other being a trip to Detroit for a ball game) was a shuffleboard tourney at Lakeside. It's obvious that his family still spends time at Lakeside; CP happened to be the closest park to take an 80-year old to. There was no other rationale. CP was probably delighted with the publicity they got... how many other parks had a puff piece on the national network news that week?

Sure, the actual report was lacking in promoting CP, but I work in media... and often a piece is trimmed (sometimes stretched) for time ten minutes before it airs, often without the reporter's say-so.

I, as a past CP employee, am very embarrassed at how CP was portrayed. His father was extremely rude to one of the guests and that was uncalled for. Iron Dragon does not represent the true feeling of the park, and gives the viewer no reason to want to go. SHAME ON CBS.

I'm too sexy for my harness!

OF course. Horrible piece. They didn't help CP. They made it seem that CP's rides are deadly and unbelievibly scary.

Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.

I'm sure there will be something on it. But nothing that we don't know already.

You're so sure of that, eh? Well, did that happen?

We expected it to be somewhat about the park. That's why we voted for where the piece should be. It wasn't. They made it about how his father doesn't like this, his father doesn't like that. You know what? Just because your son is on national TV doesn't mean I have a reason, or right really, to give a damn about what you do and do not like.

Thank you, this concludes my Daily Rant of the Day (DRotD). Please leave while I am still peaceful, as I throw something really heavy at the door that you let hit your @$$ on the way out.
